Jose Berrios just blew a 2-0 lead to the Indians in the 6th inning on his 83rd pitch and then got the hook. It wasn't because Rocco Baldelli wanted to go to the bullpen yet, it's because he forgot his pitching coach had already made a mound visit earlier in the inning, so they had to remove the pitcher on the second visit from dugout during the inning.

The cradle of the game.
Ohtani unraveling in the 1st in Arlington. Maybe he's distracted by the unmasked beer-guzzling throng in the field level seats behind home plate. He's also batting 2nd.

Corbin Burnes allowed as many hits tonight (8) as he had in his first four games total, and his ERA ballooned from 0.37 to 1.53, but he still hasn't walked anyone this year. Now at 0 bb, 49 k in 29.1 innings.

Calmed down to throw 5 IP, 3 hits, 4 ER, 2 BBs and 9 ks. Also goes 2 for 3 with a walk and a double.

Dodgers seem to not like extra inning games. About to drop another game in extras
Edit: and they have lost. They have lost 6 of their last 11 I believe.

Thanks to the Rays' being under .500, I just noticed that the Yankees are the only team in baseball that hasn't played a single opponent with a winning record. Their run differential says they've been a little unlucky, but strength of schedule disagrees.

The Twins are really regretting signing Alex Colome. He walked 3 and hit a batter tonight, only retiring 2… after losing last night's game on a walk-off home run… after allowing 4 runs to cross the plate last week in a 49-pitch outing. Having a 3-8 record in the games you've used your closer is never a good sign.

The Indians sent 8 to the plate that inning without putting a ball in play. In fact, they're currently at about 30 minutes since the last time someone put a ball in play in this game.

Vlad Guerrero Jr. Hits three HRs tonight, 2 against Max Scherzer. Looks like this might be the year he breaks out

Youngest player ever to do it, beating Yordan Alvarez's record by just two days.

Vlad Jr is the youngest with 3 HR AND 7 RBI.

By the time the dust settled, Guerrero had hit 1,226 feet worth of home runs. He became the seventh-youngest player in the history of Major League Baseball to hit three home runs in the same game, behind only Corey Seager (2016), Boog Powell (1963), Al Kaline ('55), Eddie Mathews ('52), Hal Trosky ('34) and Mel Ott ('30), and the youngest to do it with seven RBIs. That’s some good company to be in. He also became the youngest player in Blue Jays history to go yard three times in one game.

I just saw this and came to talk about it so thanks for already getting to it. It was crazy. The guy was out by a mile, and the pitcher was still fully on the grass. The runner was out of the running lane, and you can't blame the pitcher for that. Just one of the worst calls I've ever seen, and for no reason, because the runner had thoroughly given up.

Rays keep blowing close games. Castillo has been super shaky. Wasn’t helped by a bad play in the outfield by Phillips today. Patino looked really good again in a 2 inning stint.

Wait, what? They want to ban position players from pitching?
MLB had a rule ready to go last year which they abandoned due to COVID and haven't (yet?) re-instated that limited how position players could be used as pitchers. The rule stated that they could only be used in extra innings or if the team was down by six or more runs. Granted, it's rare that a position player takes the mound when the game is closer than six runs, but that just begs the question of why the rule would be necessary at all. I assume it's just step one toward curbing the practice.

Mets lost last night 2-1. The two runs the Phillies scored was on a passed ball K with 2 outs.
