Everyone knows Brooks as the big burly hitter, but his short game touch doesn't get enough love. When he's on, he makes it look so easy.

The PGA of America announces it will allow rangefinders at all of it's tournaments, including teh PGA Championship in May.

I bet most of the caddies won't even use them. It's not like the players aren't sure of the pin positions or don't have a whole human being whose job is to not only know the distance, but actually know the shot required to end up that distance. I'm not sure I get the purpose of it unless they hope it speeds up play.

Come on. They will be used by everyone. What is the downside for a professional golfer to know the exact distance to the hole?

Agree with John. Its a long time overdue. It only gives the distance to the pin, the caddies will still need to figure out how far to carry the ball, work with the player to decide shot shape, etc.

I use my rangefinder to get distances to all sorts of things besides the pin. How far to carry the front bunker, how far to the back of the green, distances to layup spots and staying short of trouble, etc.

It's a fantastic idea to let them use range finders, they do it already while creating their yardage books. Now we just avoid the song and dance of having to walk off distances from yardage markers and save time.

Right I'm just saying its not like its going to tell them how many paces the pin is over the bunker, etc...

As someone who often plays from another fairway, mine is invaluable.

Right, and I use mine all the time too, but I don't have a book with exact numbers in it. Shooting a distance to a bunker isn't necessary when you have it all in a book with a bunch of notes about distances and misses and layups and such. Don't get me wrong, I'm in favor of the rule change, I'm just thinking a lot of players and caddies will choose to rely on the books more than than the range finders.

One thing about AT&T Pebble Beach this week that's different from years past, and should make for a better event for the pros is that, since there are no amateurs, they are playing from the US open tees and the rough is grown up. With the predicted bad weather, it could make for a real tough week.

I bet they tuck the pins a bit more too, although the greens are so small it’s hard to truly “tuck” them.

I love that they get 3 rounds on PB instead of the usual 2, as well.

In the "morbid curiosity about once-good players who've lost it but tee it up occasionally" department, I see David Duval is in the field. Snark aside, one of my favorite aspects of the PGA Tour grind is that unlike other sports, players who, on paper, should "no longer be there," get chances. Like Johnny Miller winning at Pebble Beach in 94 after having barely played for several years.

Camt;ay shoots 62. What a heater he's on.

Spieth shot a 65. Appears to be coming out of it. I thought this round was more encouraging than even his 61 last week. He was much more in control.

Feels like we're getting more Spyglass coverage than usual on PGA Tour Live. They're actually bouncing around among the 4 featured groups which is kinda cool. The 2 groups they have at Pebble are pretty bleh.

I've seen enough. Spieth Ryder Cup 2021.

This should be a great weekend, the leaderboard is really stacking up. Cool to see Bhatia hangin in there.

Berger is mind numbingly slow on the greens even Gannon and Faldo are making fun of him

He has his caddie line him up but then needs to reset or else it’d be illegal. Webb Simpson is another guy who does that.
