Giles to Portland on a one year deal —Woj. Tatum friend won’t be coming to Boston this year

The Giles transaction is kind of odd on its surface. I would have expected him to sign with a team who can give him more run. Maybe he breaks in in PDX but that team is really deep now and they need to find minutes for Simons and Little too. Hood is going to have a hard enough time with some of the other wings they added.

Almost every guy signing from here on out is on the border of being in the league or sitting home.

I think we started this morning with around 50ish open roster spots left in the league. It's probably in the 30s now.

If you're a guy like Giles and that phone rings, he probably needs to yell YES before even saying hello.

The line between being in the NBA or in Europe, or home on your couch, is so thin right now.

All good points but Giles effectively started the ring chasing part of his career by skipping over the part where he becomes a veteran.

Gasol isnt very good. Some front court and bench the lakers are putting together. Really relying on lebron not getting popped for PEDs and glass bones AD to hold up a full real season

And Lowry will be 35 before the playoffs arrive. Toronto better hope Siakam and VanVleet aren't done developing, because this could fall apart in a hurry.

I think Toronto will again surprise people in the regular season, because of coaching and style. But they’re clearly a notch below the other 4 teams now imo, and I don’t think anyone is scared of them to the same degree.

Lowry, FVV, and Siakam are still good. Siakam wasn’t good in the bubble but that was a weird situation. I’m not counting them out of anything.

Don't forget Norm Powell, the random guy who plays like Andrew Toney whenever I see him!

Yes, I realize in real life he's a Trick or Treat player.

If I only had to base guys on how I’ve seen them play, you could convince me Khris Middleton is as good as MJ.

If I could actually create the media I envision and IT4 came back to the Celtics I would definitely make a video where one layer would have Tommy in the top right corner smiling and looking down over a layer with IT4 great Celtics moments highlights and the background music would Mariah Carey and Boys II Men’s One Sweet Day playing in the background, but not the whole song, I would just let the beginning play then loop the following part:

“And I know you're shining down on me from heaven
Like so many friends we've lost along the way
(Lost along the way)
And I know eventually
(I know I know) we'll be together
We'll be together
One sweet day...”

and I would get drunk by the fireplace and watch this over and over until I laughed myself unconscious.

I think a team should take a swing on IT as a bench gunner.

I don't think that team should be the Celtics because of what our roster looks like (lot of small PGs already), and the questions on how a guy who was "the star" with a lot of these guys fits into being the 12th-15th man.

Jazz or Mavs might make sense

I want 0 part of IT on the Celtics, and I really hope he can catch on in one of those places.

I think the best spot for IT is Orlando, since it appears they have plans to compete for the 8th seed this year. They desperately need the upside he brings and have enough defensive talent to make up for his shortcomings.

I can't imagine an actual contender/playoff team would give him serious minutes.

That would be a solid fit.

Whoa. That makes it very hard to acquire Giannis (and probably means they’ve heard he’s reupping in Milwaukee?)

Yeah. This is the clearest sign that the league thinks Giannis is re-signing in Milwaukee.

Seems likely Giannis must've let Milwaukee know he'd re-sign before they gave up the farm for Jrue Holiday.

Giannis locked up on a team with Jrue, Middleton, and without assets to trade (in a market that doesn’t attract FAs) is probably the best-case scenario for the rest of the East. That team will be really good in the regular season, and is a title contender in the post-Warriors NBA.

It’s not Giannis on Miami or Toronto though.

Agreed. And if it's true he wanted them to go all in on Jrue to stay, that's a weird guy to use your influence to get.

Miami getting Giannis would've been frightening.

Giannis/Butler/Bam with Herro and Robinson as shooters and Miami as a city to draw in role players, good God.

Miami was clearly heading this way with your boy Meyers' deal but this clearly dampens the prospects. That said, with the Bogdanovic swing and miss as well as how Milwaukee handled some of their other contracts, Giannis is still a flight risk until he inks that new deal, especially if they struggle this upcoming season.

I'm confused on this. Could they have really gotten him to sign for less to somehow get GA? How much less did they need?

I see bam is estimated to be at $28M in 21-22 and butler is at $36M. GA is at $28M. What were the other options for getting bam and GA to both be on Miami that bam would have gone for? Or is it a case where teams have so much leverage over a player on their second contract, they would have been able to sign bam for 3 years at a lower number he would have been forced to take?
