I kinda wish Kanter really was a pro wrestler right about now.

Though I expect the feeling to dissipate by game time.

There’s a thread for ME politics in V&N. But I thought that the fact that he did it—i.e. that he is an activist—is relevant, especially since NBA should now be considered it’s own substate, basically.

I like this guy.

Now, maybe you don’t have the WSJ but want to read? I would suggest googling:

Boston Celtic Enes Kanter Calls Foul on Repression in Turkey

And then click on the link, and it should bring you right in. Do not ask why. It is ancient magick.

Great article. Kanter is easy to root for both on and off the court. I'm looking forward to seeing him get back on the court. Lost in the Celtics' strong start to the season is that Kanter has played only one game. Between Theis, TL and Kanter the Celtics have a pretty good big man rotation.

Yes, yes he did. I'm not sure the NCAA overreached on that issue back then. His Squeaky clean coach John Calipari I am sure had much to say about it.

I admittedly have Kanter on too much of a pedestal for his ridiculously brave stance on Turkey. There's nothing wrong with this tweet, but I wouldn't equate the two.

And I wish my iPad would stop spellchecking Kanter to Kanye. Just so wrong.

I'm pretty sure that the Turkish guy from the Erdogan wanted posters knows that Turkey is worse than the NCAA. Perhaps he can be forgiven for a little hyperbole. I think that he has earned it.

I think I said that. Or at least I tried to.
I was reacting to #359.

I don't think that you're taking an unfair stance on Kanter and his tweet. I just think that a guy who has been through the shit that he has maybe deserves a wide berth. Seems like a comment on authoritarian tactics by the NCAA on a fellow hooper, and a kid at that, with a little "and I know authoritarians" thrown in for effect.

I used to be impressed with him. I’m now in awe.

He’s just so fucking upbeat.

I need to work on my attitude.

How strong is your InstaGram game? I mean, your not in the target demo so I really don’t know.

The MA congressional delegation better start working now to get Kanter a passport exemption, in case we draw Toronto in the playoffs.

If Theis keeps playing like this, I’m cool if they forget to file the paperwork by a day or something.

And this is Theis' worst season so far, statistically. He struggles to make a shot, 5-21 on non-layups/dunks, and his three percentage is down. Of course, he's playing against starters most of the time now. The results have been good, and he fits in well with this slashing/movement scheme as a screener/rim runner who can occasionally step out.

Kanter is double double machine who can pound the offensive glass, and can also step out. I like the three man center rotation we have. Give them all 16 or so MPG and get max effort from them on the floor at all time.

I mean, if it’s his worse season statistically, the wrong statistics are being used.

I love that the Celtics have adjusted their offensive scheme this year to get more rolls from the bigs. It’s creating a lot of gravity to the rim that Horford and Baynes weren’t providing, which in turn opens up 3s and slashing drives.

So Kanter plays in the opener, leaves with a "knee contusion" and 19 days later he is cleared to play, lasts 6 minutes and is removed for "knee discomfort". Does anybody know what is really going on with his knee? or is it Hellenic load management?

Where did you see he was removed for discomfort? Kanter and Stevens after the game said the plan was limited minutes in first game back.

Theis is 2nd in the league in block %, 8th in blocks per game and 8th in DPBM. His defensive rating is 18th in the league. His shooting will come around. He's having his best season.

In the post-game presser, Brad mentioned that Theis/TL have played well. With the Celtics having to adjust without Hayward and play newbies Grant/Green there is no reason to completely throw the rotations off by force-feeding Kanter.

Brad will work Enis in slowly over the next few weeks

Yeah, I'm guessing it's a bit of Hellenic knee. Theis looks like a completely different player from last year, and Williams (last night's PnR lapses aside) is progressing rapidly. Both those things are new and somewhat unexpected developments, and I doubt the team wants to mess with them.

IIRC, Theis got hurt either during or just prior to the Celtics' 2018 playoff run to the ECF, and needed surgery. And so he had no offseason last year to speak of. Just another example of how a full offseason can really matter to some players.

Yup, his meniscus. He was clearly not the same guy athletically afterwards.

Although in addition to athleticism, he's made some real progress/adjustments defensively this year.

Theis has been a good back-up Center for 2 yrs now. He was dinged up last season. He can be a solid 20mpg center for this team.

SSS aside- he's fouling a bit less, not shooting the 3 as well, a few more blocks. That will probably even out by the end of the season.

Aside from health, I don't see why he can't be a 30 min/night guy. He's a really solid player.
(Health/freshness are big considerations at center though. I'm thinking more for the playoffs).

Production-wise Daniel Theis could play an effective 30mpg, much like Baynes, DT's a nice lunchpail player that doesn't need to score to add value.
BUT I believe Brad wants to spread his minutes out at the 5.

ALSO TL could turn into a difference-maker by 2021. I don't want his minutes dented with the return of EK. So I'd expect DT ~20mpg, TL ~15mpg and EK ~13mpg

VP didn't dress last night wth EK back and Romeo up from Maine. I wonder if they send him to Maine?

I think across sports, people need to rethink the effect nagging injuries really have, culture of sucking it up and playing through it notwithstanding (the attitude may be good for players, which is why it would require coaches’ intervention).

I propose we name the phenomenon The Cal Ripken Conundrum.

So, I’m doing my best not to devolve into Kanter hero worship, which would be especially problematic since he doesn’t get that much playing time.

But I thought there was a cool example of who he is.

He wore the middle eastern color for mourning to work on Monday. It’s a message easily discernible to those who would understand, while not intruding on the thoughts of those who would not know what it is. Because it’s not obvious because it’s frickin’ orange and almost nobody around here knows that. He’s all class and slicker than grease.

I'm still missing this. I have about as much instagram experience as my grandmother who has been dead since '94. "NGE instagram" and "NGE OD instagram" on the Google machine don't turn up anything that seem relevant. I have no idea what garbage trucks have to do with this. More help for a simpleton would be appreciated.

I apologize; I didn’t realize it wasn’t clear. That’s my bad.

Basically, people arrange shit in their photos, often by placing stuff that makes them look deep and pretending it’s always there all casual like. Like cleaning up and arranging the living room before a date comes over. There’s an art and magic to it. Except now through the magic of social media, that’s day to day life for young people. They’re going to go insane, but I digress.

The other paper, behind the one Kanter is reading, is carrying a story concerning a financial transaction for a major Chinese company.

I bet his coffee was Turkish, too, but I cannot verify that.
