The 718
Blades are no joke. Well organized, tough, passionate. Not an easy game here.

Yup - quick to hop on the counter as well and have isolated Van Dijk and Matip on a couple of 2v2s

LFC is getting some decent chances but not really threatening with them. I’ll be ecstatic if we get out of here with a 1-0 win.

And another goalkeeper mistake for Teddy to rue.
Did Klopps Dortmund get a lot of similar weird goals? When I’m not being frustrated by it I can imagine an explanation where something related to the pressure Liverpool creates just somehow makes these things more likely. But man if you put together a video of the goals like this Liverpool have scored in the last year it would look like high school highlights

Spot on. Watched on a slight delay, so I finally exhale. Sheffield United were fantastic - organized and incisive on the counter. I feel horrible for their keeper, but am excited for Teddy to complain.

Mane, Salah, & Firmino look gassed. They need more rotation. If Shaq isn’t the guy to do that, then this squad needs another attacker.

Shaqiri's got a small calf muscle tear apparently - every time he seems to be on the cusp of getting significant game time, he ends up hurt.

Origi's looked solid, but yeah I wonder if we see them bring someone in in January - or give Brewster a run of games

I didn’t know Shaqiri was injured. That explains some of it. I read a while back that Liverpool had submitted a bid for Pepe comparable to Arsenal’s, but Pepe preferred a clear path to the first team over being in rotation. That’s sensible to me, but highlights the challenge Liverpool have in finding a rotation attacker. If they’re going to keep to their wage structure, it’ll take some time to find the right player who can a lot in (that includes development time for Brewster).

Now that we know Liverpool were the original CFG club I see no reason to be upset about it all

Chelsea taking target practice directly a the keeper this half. They've had 4 or 5 clear chances directed straight at the man in bright green.

Without Kante, Jorginho showing why he's one of the best midfielders in the world. He's played a few simply beautiful balls that have created chances or sliced open the defense while also breaking up play nicely. Both Kante and Jorginho should be the heart of a team.

Crazy half at WHL. Ndombele with a goal early, followed by Serge Aurier picking up two yellow cards in four minutes. Then Southampton level off of a Hugo Lloris miscue so bad, he couldn't wait for all of Southamptons players to play for Liverpool to pull it off. Just when all seemed lost, a beautiful three man weave between Eriksen-Kane-Son leads to Kane making it 2-1 at the half.

This entire half is just going to be Sissoko being tested at right back.

Norwich has their 2nd string keeper for off injured in the 22nd minute. They’re now trying to get back level at Selhurst with the emergency keeper minding the goal.

Palace double their lead with a well worked goal. Norwich have taken 0 points on the road. They need to change up their away approach if they want to stay up.

There was a story in the Echo today on a Spanish report that Suarez was fed up in Barca and was open to a return to Anfield - with a reciprocal interest from Liverpool. Can’t see it myself as Suarez would have to take a huge wage cut, he’s 32 , and would , presumably be pretty expensive. While a complete dickhead he was amazing to watch though.

If they could get him on the cheap then maybe ..

If Liverpool had taken that shot Pickford would have gotten his cleat stuck in his laces popped it in the air trying to save and it would have gone in the net off his back

I never enjoy playing Everton and Gundogan already with a miss from a yard out but at least KDB seems at his best today he’s already hit two or three ridiculous passes

I've seen this one dubbed El Sackico and that seems about right to me. Neither manager is leading their club anywhere.

Emery is playing three defensive oriented midfielders, again. Get ready for some turgid football and some repeated ill-advised attempts to play it out from the back.

United's team is shockingly bad by the club's own standards - Lingard, Pereira, McTominay, an old man playing out of position at LB and a young kid playing out of position at RB.

I feel like a draw is the most appropriate outcome but we'll see.

Was really hoping Tierney might be available to start or even as a sub, but I guess best not to rush him. Hate seeing Xhaka, Torreira and Guendouzzi all starting. Wish Ceballos was in for Xhaka.

I actually rate McTominay. I think he'll come good.

I'm surprised Rashford is playing, let alone starting. Ole is going to run him into the ground.

I read that as I tabbed to SoSH after the missed pass to Rashford on the break, and tabbed back just in time to see his shot

Well, i reckon Man U could have had a penalty, but VAR didn't go for that. Then Man U switch off for an offisde that never was and it's 1-1 - Aubameyang with a decent finish.

I'm rooting hard for United since i found out Tierney didn't make the bench. But Rashford and Pogba have been poor. The guy pretending to be Lingard has failed to impress. I dunno if United have another goal in them. Maybe an OG, or a pen/set piece, but a proper goal. They're just not that kind of team. They're not about goals anymore.

Emery has a better side than Wenger had in the past five or so years and he's making each player worse.
He's also playing every one of his young players even though they haven't remotely played well enough to deserve it...as well as playing a super regressive defensive style with players that don't know how to pass through balls or cross..but in addition to that don't seem to be particularly interested in playing defense either..as well as playing Luiz and Xhaka who leave their feet or commit really dumb fouls almost every game... while also playing forwards who aren't getting service because he's playing defensive mids who don't seem to possess the ball particularly well through midfield.

That and not playing the same lineup twice so that none of your players know or learn how to play with one another.

So approximately 1/5th of the way through the season and there are 2 teams outside the traditional top 6 inside the top 5 (top 4 if you don't go to tiebreakers).

I disagree with this. Outsdie of Auba, Guendouzi has been their best player this year and Emery has no young options (until Holding/Tierney/Bellerin are fit) to play in the back. Willock and Saka have looked good. I suppose Nelson has been up and down. Pepe needs to settle in and I agree they need lineup stability, but the young players are playing hard and acquitting themselves just fine to me.

I may have over stated. I agree on Guendouzi.. and didn't mean to include him.

But Emery is also regularly playing Maitland-Niles (22) who does have 2 assists, but to my eye isn't all that great a crosser of the ball. Nelson (19), Willock (20), Saka (18), Martinelli (18) with Guendouzi.. that's 5 players 20 or younger that he had on todays roster which seems like a lot to my eye. It's true he has the three you mentioned out.. so I dunno. He's also playing Xhaka (13 fouls committed) and Luiz a ton.. I guess because he doesn't have any other options. But it would seem like Ceballos should be starting every match..and possibly Torreira.

I'd just like him to pick a starting lineup/formation and play it regularly with minimal changes...and also maybe see some sort of consistent style of play.

With all that said..they're top four...but they've been playing down to their opponent for a while in the EPL.
