Yankees must win for Red Sox to get passion again!

It’s interesting to read this thread and think about the origin of my own Yankee hatred. Grew up in Western Mass and started following the Sox in 1967. Watching games on TV throughout the 70s, it was ingrained in my from my father that the Yankees were a thing to be hated, like the Soviet Union...

    Sox-related Intergenerational Trauma

I don’t have any kids but was definitely on the receiving end of the Red Sox inter generational trauma. My late father started saying the rosary for the Red Sox in 1936. He would say “The Yankees ruined my childhood, my adolescence, my adulthood, … etc.”. I think for him, the Yankees losing...

Alex Cora-- what do we have here? Perhaps the best manager in baseball.

I’m curious. Living out here in the Berkshires, I don’t get the daily dose of the Boston media. If the Red Sox don’t make the playoffs, where are the usual media suspects going to assign the blame? Cora/Bloom/Ownership/Players?

Worst In Game Pitching Decision In Red Sox History

Not that I was alive then, but I voted for the Denny Galehouse decision. Sitting around here in New England and listening to the previous generation of Red Sox fans for the last 60 years, they still grumble about that being the worst decision of all time.

Jose Iglesias signs with Red Sox

I was at yesterday’s and today’s games. Seeing it in person, Iglesias really looks like he stabilizes the infield defense. He has a presence about him hitting in that #9 spot.

Will the real Red Sox please stand up? I repeat, will the real Red Sox please stand up?

I think that Bloom not making a more significant deal at the deadline deflated the players. Baseball is played by people with emotions and not with computer programs. Sometimes you have to “overpay” with prospects to give a jolt to the major league team.

    Happy Birthday, Yaz!

Thought I would add a thought here. Started following the Red Sox as a New England kid in the Dave Morehead/Jerry Stevenson season of 1966. Adored and idolized Yaz all through my youth. Having said that, the greatest Red Sox players of my lifetime are Pedro and David Ortiz. Nothing Yaz did...

Grade the Red Sox trade deadline

Fair comment. Not an equal comparison.

Grade the Red Sox trade deadline

Like many of you, I have mixed emotions about this trade deadline. Intellectually, I fear that Bloom made the right decisions. With the current state of the starting pitching, one Max Scherzer is not enough. We need three of Max. Having said that, I do think that teams get a jolt of energy...

    Trade deadline

FWIW, my own view on this is that it is important to do something between now and the deadline. I just think it sends a message to the team that the front office believes they have a chance to win it. Even though many of these deadline acquisitions don’t amount to much in the end (Cliff Floyd...

Alex Cora is back as Sox manager

I fully support this move. If you have a managerial candidate that you know can handle the Boston pressure-cooker, keep him.

It never gets old - reflections on Oct 17-20, 2004

First time poster here and thought I would share some thoughts. I began following the Red Sox in the Impossible Dream season of 1967. Can’t get enough of rewatching Four Days in October. I did not think the 2004 Red Sox had it until the ground ball was in Reese’s glove and the comebacker was...
