One thing I haven't seen mentioned here was the effect of the competitive balance tax had on the Sox decision to resign him. IIRC, the Sox were over the threshold in 2018 and 2019. If they signed Mookie in 2020, they would have incurred a 50% tax being over the threshold for a third consecutive...
