Wilyer Abreu to be called up

My apologies. B-Ref is still showing 33 on the team page, but it is 43 on his individual page. Still hard to justify starting him over Abreu's 170 OPS+ though.

Wilyer Abreu to be called up

Tiny silver lining for sure. Though I suspect that at some point, Rafaela was going to swing his way out of the lineup. As good as he is defensively, a 33 OPS+ is not really good enough to justify him starting regularly over Abreu.

March/April: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

It's weird how this team seems to coalesce when it's injury decimated. Last year they had a solid stretch through that whole 3 starters and 2 openers thing. For example, they were 15-8 in July with Bernardino (5x), Jacques, Schreiber, and Tayler Scott (who?) picking up "starts." Of course...

Wilyer Abreu to be called up

O'Neill, Duran, Abreu is the best overall outfield the team can field right now. Refsnyder has been hot since returning but I don't believe it's sustainable (particularly against RHP). Plus I expect he might get some run at 1B as long as the bat stays hot. Rafaela is the SS now. DH is kinda...

Good test of Raffy's knee right off the bat.

    What to do with Yoshida?

The trouble is the bats that aren't struggling are all outfielders (Abreu, Duran, Refsnyder), so how do you squeeze him into the lineup, especially using the DH spot to give guys like O'Neill and Devers soft returns? The only non-use of Yoshida I might question was Sunday (Heineman), but even...

Bello to IL with lat tightness

    The Amazing Criswell?

Masa, O'Neill, Abreu in the outfield Wong, Rafaela, Duran, Refsnyder around the infield McGuire behind the plate Devers at DH Is that the best offensive lineup they could field right now?

    The Amazing Criswell?

At whose expense though? Pretty much all the offense of late is coming from the outfielders, and that's not even counting O'Neill. Duran was drafted as an infielder, maybe he can play 2B for a while? /s

Bello to IL with lat tightness

On July 8, 2022, Michael Wacha was placed on the IL (replaced by Connor Seabold). He joined Chris Sale (rib), Nathan Eovaldi (back), Rich Hill (knee), Matt Barnes (shoulder), and Garrett Whitlock (hip) who were already on the IL. The next day, Seabold was put on the IL with a forearm extensor...

Casas has a left rib fracture. He will be out "a while." (4/23 update)

DFA does not automatically mean he's available for "just money". DFA means that the team has to move him off the 40-man roster within 10 days, either via trade, waivers, or release (or outrighting him to the minors but a veteran like Cooper is sure to decline that). If the Sox want him and...

    Tanner Houck 2024

Where did I say they were negatives? I was just pointing out that Bloom could have moved any or all of them during his tenure and did not, and now it's paying off. By no means was that intended to be a slight toward Dombrowski or those trades.
