    Spring Training Games

Kiké's .888 on base percentage so far this Spring suggests that Cora might be on to something about leading him off LOL

Might as well start talking about 2021

If these were one-position type players who hit righties or lefties well with the aim of putting together stacked RHH-heavy or LHH-heavy lineups against starters, then I would agree: openers undermine the platoon strategy. But Santana and Marwin are seven-position switch hitters with tiny...

    Thank You, Jackie Bradley Jr.

See, this I don't get. Bradley is my favorite active ballplayer, and I am sad we didn't retain him. But he got a deal better than what I predicted the Sox should give him (2/$18), and I understand it. I might actually watch some Brewers games this year to check in on him. But this Sox team is...

    Thank You, Jackie Bradley Jr.

The fact that he learned this lesson in college, snapping his wrist on a diving catch, is how we were able to draft him at all. He had been seen as a top-10 pick after a huge two-way sophomore season for College World Series winners South Carolina, hitting .345 in the tournament, including 2/5...

    Thank You, Jackie Bradley Jr.

Much was made of the Sox' "neuroscouting" in discussions of Betts, whom they identified pre-draft with a video game as someone who might have elite pitch recognition. But I suspect that there is a similar story about Bradley. Bradley is the distinctive player of the Statcast era, which...

My favorite active baseball player. I get it, but I’m sad.

    Spring Training Games

I don't mind it for the first few weeks of Spring Training, especially mid-pandemic. It's not like watching some minor league reliever get completely drubbed or have multiple pitching changes because it's early and no one can find the plate made for some sort of scintillating viewing experience.

Might as well start talking about 2021

Cordero might start out as part of a platoon, but I hope he'll get a ton of PA. He's only had 350ish PA in the majors because of all of the injuries. People declaring him a platoon player based on the 72 PA big league sample against LHP are jumping the gun in my view, especially since he was...

    Spring Training Games

Ah, that makes sense. So... not great. It's great to see Politi, who had a really great 2019 kind of out of nowhere, keep it up.

    Spring Training Games

In fact, we had games of 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 innings yesterday.

Looking at yesterday’s scores, some other games have been nine. I think it just depends on how many pitchers need work.

    Spring Training 2021

Defense is another factor. 2020 usage gave me the distinct impression that the organization does not really trust Chavis at 2B, as he only got into 8 games there even as the position was wide open after Peraza faltered. If he's not credible at 2B, that leaves Chavis as a corner guy with an 88...

The Next Great Red Sox Team

I wasn't really expressing an opinion on that. By the numbers, UZR likes him and DRS hates him, and no one I've read can figure out the source of the discrepancy. (For the record, the SS I really thought it would be worth sliding Bogaerts over to third for was Lindor, as he's the best defender...
