Wilyer Abreu to be called up

If Bobby Dalbec struck out instead of singling, yesterday, Rafaela would have another knock.

Wilyer Abreu to be called up

Weird. He was at 0.9 when I checked, but Abreu (now at 1.3) was still at 1.0. Both players had big days! I guess I assumed bref would roll out the day’s updates all at once, but maybe that isn’t how it works.

Wilyer Abreu to be called up

I'll check again after bref updates, but I'm pretty sure this great game should put Wilyer in the lead in bWAR among AL rookies — over Justin Slaten, with whom he had been tied at 1.0. That's right. Your 2024 Red Sox have the top two rookies in the AL by bWAR; Jared Jones is the leader in the...

Casas has a left rib fracture. He will be out "a while." (4/23 update)

Well, that and ~700 PA of .900 OPS in AAA. That’s the reason he’s still around, although Grissom’s return from his rehab will probably be the end of the line. I don’t really believe in AAAA players, but Dalbec might actually be one. It’s deeply weird that he’s not just good, he’s *great* in...

Right, or until they’re out of options, as he will be this fall.

2024 Lineup (What we actually have - no trade speculation.)

Oh, my bad, RR. That was way too armchair GM-y for the thread.

2024 Lineup (What we actually have - no trade speculation.)

We'll know more about Casas' prognosis soon, but let's say that Casas looks likely to be out until July or so. We also absolutely cannot rush him back from something like this; he means too much to the long-term prospects of the team. Here is what I think I'd try to do: ASAP: offer Brandon...

Which Current MLBers Will Be In the Hall of Fame?

    Well, unless I missed someone, here are the recent SP inductees (inducted since 2014): Maddux | 107 WAR, 132 ERA+, 355 W, 3371 K Johnson | 101 WAR, 135 ERA+, 303 W, 4875 K Martínez | 83 WAR, 154 ERA+, 219 W, 3154 K Mussina | 83 WAR, 123 ERA+, 270 W, 2813 K Glavine | 81 WAR, 132 ERA+, 305 W...

2024 Lineup (What we actually have - no trade speculation.)

Some facts: Boston has 28 HR as of this morning, second to Baltimore. The team OBP is a touch below average at .302. The team’s 93 runs scored are 14th in MLB, right in the middle. The team’s BABIP is .279. It feels like there’s a good offense in here trying to get out. It’s deeply weird that...

A Dream of 2025, What is Going Right and Looks like the Sox can Build On

Well, by 2025 we could have Grissom, Valdez, Mayer, Story, and Yorke for three infield spots. Eddinson Paulino has started hot in AA, too. Maybe that yields a Grissom/Mayer/Story infield, with Devers mostly at DH and Valdez as a left-handed complement to Story and Grissom?

Sox acquire RHP Gutierrez from the Brewers

The stat lines have been pretty hideous, but his 4 IP for the Marlins at the end of March produced some better statcast stuff than in the past. He might be a candidate to throw his so-so fastball way less.

A Dream of 2025, What is Going Right and Looks like the Sox can Build On

I think we might already have something like this, but in the low minors. A lot of our young hitters are adding a lot of bat speed. Kristian Campbell looks like the test case here. The old adage was that you can’t teach power, so you draft dudes with pop and try to help them gain an approach...
