2020 Pats: Welcome to Camelot - NE Signs Cam Newton

Not only that but the Pats offensive line looks to be much better than what he's had in Carolina. The Panthers haven't had a single good OT on either side of that line for the past 5 years or so.

Bill Simmons: Valuing Trades More Than Friendships

I think his issues stem more from an upbringing of extreme privilege and being surrounded by people just like him (Greenwich CT prep schools, postgrad at Choate, Holy Cross undergrad, BU grad school, etc...) than being an only child.

Bill Simmons: Valuing Trades More Than Friendships

I'll make no excuses for Simmons as a gigantic egomaniac and spoiled brat but can we call out the garbage faux-psychology that attributes his obvious faults to being an only child? Study after study has debunked this commonly held myth that only children are more selfish, lacking in social...

    MVP of 2004 Postseason

Agreed. I'll also argue that Ortiz's dominance in the ALDS against the Angels saved two key arms that ended up being critical in the ALCS: Foulke and Lowe only pitched a combined 4 innings before the long Yankees series. If Papi doesn't send the Angels home in 3, they most likely would have...

    2020 Pats: 2020 Roster & Beyond (non-QB edition)

File this under "and beyond": If the 2020 NFL season gets cut back due to COVID and league revenues fall off, the 2021 Salary Cap will go down, possibly by a significant amount. According to this article, the Pats are one of only a handful of teams who could benefit from such a drop based on...

    2020 MLB Draft Thread

I'm furious that the Sox didn't take Jordan Walker (went to the Cardinals at 21). He's a local kid (Decatur GA) who plays his home games right down the street from my house so I've seen him a bunch. 6'5, 220 as a high school senior with huge power potential. Really excellent kid too. Committed...

What do the Pats do at 23?

Makes sense if Belichick shifts to the single wing offense that he's always wanted to try.

What do the Pats do at 23?

I think they go HEAVY defense. #23 will most likely be a LB or DL if they don't trade the pick. IMO, the offenses will suffer most from lack of time together in OTAs - It takes reps to get an offense to click into place. Belichick knows this better than anyone so I'd bet that he tries to draft...

    Pats Sign Marqise Lee

Lee is super talented - He just can't seem to stay healthy. Good, cheap Pats type pickup.

    Caesar's Sportsbook: 2020 Pats Over/Under 8.5 Wins

Stipulated. But you've made my point: Brady isn't going to make much of a difference over a replacement level QB at this point in his career with the current roster. So +2 wins in the Pats over/under with Brady vs. without seems pretty silly to me.

    Caesar's Sportsbook: 2020 Pats Over/Under 8.5 Wins

True, but are we forgetting how bad Brady was during that stretch? Here was his completion rate during those last nine games: 65%, 55%, 45%, 51%, 52%, 51%, 78% (the win vs. Buffalo), 55%, 54%. WOOF.

    Caesar's Sportsbook: 2020 Pats Over/Under 8.5 Wins

What would the line have been if Brady had stayed? 10.5? 11? Is Brady really worth 2-3 wins at this point in his career?

Likelihood of an NFL 2020 Season

Snark aside, a 44 year old body sitting around for a year and then trying to ramp it up at NFL speed? I could easily see a scenario where he gives it a go in training camp and decides that he's too diminished as an athlete to play anymore.

Likelihood of an NFL 2020 Season

Assume that's 2021, he'll be 44 years old and a full year removed from actual football. Man, those are some long odds for success.
