Surprised there isn't an announcer thread...

Rebooting for 2024: already annoyed at DOB and Millar yacking away with the 2004 team and not paying attention to the game. They were so busy making jokes about Trot Nixon head-butting things (I don't get it) they didn't even mention TWO straight called strikes to Casas that were balls. Not...

Red Sox, Ceddanne Rafaela agree to contract extension

Please please I'm begging you show us the spreadsheet. Please.

Revised contract predictions for Snell and Montgomery

Re: 3) Disagree. I'm sure he'd love to have slept in a big bed with his wife. Re: 4) Agree. Waiting seems stupid in hindsight since so many teams made other plans (including BOS).

Revised contract predictions for Snell and Montgomery

I think a deal like this made sense 1-2 months ago. Sox went into the spring with three guys (Houck, Whitlock, and Criswell) competing for two spots, and all three of them had tremendous springs (maybe four but Winck never really seemed like a contender). So why wouldn't you develop those guys...

    2024 Red Sox Spring Training

I think it's happening! Especially since we never signed a RH outfielder. Abreu can wait for the inevitable O'Neill injury at AAA. Stats don't account for the 3rd HR today. I like the BBs from Abreu, but considering his defense CR just has to show competency with the bat for the job to be his.

    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

Sorry, it was OP that said 5%. To your point, PECOTA has them at 12.6% to Fangraphs at 25%. Here are the current win total projections across 5 LV sites: Assuming our only remaining move is to sign a Duvall/Urshela type (what I'm expecting) I still think we'll be in that 79±1 range. We'll see...

    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

They’re like one of 6 teams mentioned as interested in JMont and all indications from the front office is they’re satisfied with SP depth. So I would say 5% chance of upgrade being priced in and 95% typical Boston-sports-inflation. Also fangraphs has the Sox at 25% for playoffs so I’m not even...

    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

I don’t think Vegas is betting on an upgrade before the season starts

    Offseason rumors

I'm more interested in salvaging Houck, Whitlock, and Winck! Murphy and Walter wouldn't hurt either. And if Breslow/Bailey/Boddy think there's enough talent/depth there to last the season behind our four clear starters I'm good with it. That said, if BBB think JMont or Snell are great additions...

    Offseason rumors

[insert gif of Lucy yanking away the football and Charlie Brown flying into the ether] Seriously though, we have three top-40 prospects at AA (maybe 4 if Keith Law is to be believed--and CR is at AAA). That's rare. And considering how the last few years have looked, teams have no problems...

Too Many Hitters? How the Red Sox Draft Strategy Changed

Definitely getting a litmus test of this as of 2024 with all the resources they’ve put towards pitching development (Breslow, Bailey, Boddy, etc). Does make me slightly optimistic for 1-2 of Houck/Whitlock/Winck figuring it out (and maybe Bello and Kutter even moreso), which would make all of...

Too Many Hitters? How the Red Sox Draft Strategy Changed

Echoing this point, the plot shows KC as the team spending the most, and they hardly have more success than BOS. In fact Ragans looks better than anyone they’ve developed and they got him from TEX in a deadline deal

It didn't matter for 3/6 years in his prime, since he was an above average hitter in those years.

Red Sox to be 1st MLB featured on Netflix series

One more reason they better be waiting out JMont/Snell for whichever settles for a short-term deal. They aren't giving Netflix access distraction for free.

    Minor League Thread 2024

I'm honestly not sure what argument you're trying to build here. JBJ had three years he went 123, 118, and 118 in wRC+ (2015, 2016, and 2020). He was quite valuable in those years. Even when he was an 89-90wRC+ guy from 2017-2019 he put up 2.4, 3.4, and 1.9 fWAR because of his defense. With...
