Fernando Tatis Jr. signs 14 year, 340M extension

Hell, Richie Zisk didn't even play the final 4 years of his deal. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/richie-zisk/1014455/stats?position=DH/OF 10 years 2.75 million in 1978. We shouldn't speak his name here, but A-Rod was still above average after his first 10 year deal.

Fernando Tatis Jr. signs 14 year, 340M extension

I was going to post something similar. Tulo was all star level when healthy and was always going to have a great floor because he was so good defensively. But he was never a perennial MVP candidate (2 times he was 5th). Tatis has already finished 3rd and his offense alone plays anywhere. One...

Fernando Tatis Jr. signs 14 year, 340M extension

Juan Soto must be salivating. Same age (by about a month), Steamer projection 5.7 fwar, same arbitration year. Every bit as good as Tatis.

Red Sox trade (P) Springs and Mazza to TB Rays for (C) Hernandez

The Rays system is ridiculous. They have two higher rated catchers in their minor leagues. There are going to be a lot of prospects "old" for their level due to COVID last season. We may be seeing the trickle down effect from teams that need to win now shedding some of their depth to get...

Benintendi to Royals for Franchy Cordero, Mets RHP prospect Josh Winckowski, and 3 PTBNLs

I think part of it was him starting to bulk up in 2018, and then injuries last year. As I've mentioned before, Fenway was always an awful fit for him. Not a lot of territory to cover when he first came up and rated very well as a fielder and he never had a chance to play CF because of JBJ. It...

Benintendi to Royals for Franchy Cordero, Mets RHP prospect Josh Winckowski, and 3 PTBNLs

I don't disagree that it isn't compelling baseball, but the difference is that these guys are all likely platoon guys and you can play the match ups more.

Benintendi to Royals for Franchy Cordero, Mets RHP prospect Josh Winckowski, and 3 PTBNLs

Given that the Sox cleared some salary, I'm assuming they have other stuff brewing. Or one or more of the PTBNL as suggested is an MLBer. I'm all for loading up on lottery tickets. Franchy is entertaining to watch, if nothing else.

MLB Offseason 2020 News & Notes

None of the changes baseball has made over the past few years have impacted my enjoyment of the games. I thought the extra inning thing was weird, but I hate pitchers breaking all the time and I think the good outweighs the bad in both instances. Two leagues having different positions after...

MLB Offseason 2020 News & Notes

The years on his deal and his age made the price right. Pitchers at their peak at his age are going to get paid. I mean he has been absolutely dominant two of the last three seasons too.

Nolan Arenado traded to St. Louis

This is more of where I was off base. I probably shouldn't have gone that route of relocation. I love Denver. The fans seem great. It's a gorgeous stadium and attendance isn't a problem. I just think the disadvantage the Rockies have from their environment is substantially worse than any...

Nolan Arenado traded to St. Louis

The Rockies basically moved someone without a dance partner for salary relief. Odds are pretty high the Rockies will play the role of the Blue Jays circa early 2000's with two juggernauts ahead of them. There's just no reason to have a superstar wasting his prime on a team that isn't going to...

Might as well start talking about 2021

His outlier season (4 fwar) was in 2017 - the first year the Astros were known to be sign stealing so I'm very skeptical of his ability to be an above average hitter. The only reason I can see of looking at him is because Hernandez was told he wouldn't have to bounce around, so Marwin would...

Red Sox acquire Adam Ottavino and RHP prospect Frank German from Yankees for PTBNL

It's not like Adam Ottavino is going to make or break a theoretical Red Sox run at the World Series. It's him for a year and that's it. Good timing for an intra-division trade.

A Country for Old Men: Tom Brady and His Ilk

We're both better at eating shitty food I would venture.
