I don't think it matters much to them. There are plenty of other NFL players to promote. Favoprable coverage? Like the millions they made out of covering the Patriots' scandals? If the NFL counted on them for favorable coverage, they wouldn't have run this particular story on their website.

Why would ESPN care whether Watson is guilty or innocent? They cover the story either way and can keep generating clicks with aggregate stories.
