    4/15 Borel's Million Dalbecs

I know one injury to Story can't explain everything but right now it just feels like so many guys on this roster I don't want them to hit it to.

    4/15 Borel's Million Dalbecs

The Rays get all the attention of being the smart, scrappy, small market team, and although the Rays are in a tougher Division (certainly competing against teams with more resources) the Guardians have been impressive as well. Since 2016 both have won 90+ games 5 times and made the playoffs 5...

    4/15 Borel's Million Dalbecs

Right, I believe they wear the BOSTON white uniforms that they wore for the "This is our efing city" game in 2013 as a tribute on Marathon Monday, and the City Connects on F/Sa/Su beforehand. PS UUUGHHHhhhhh. Statcast says xBA of .750 on that Devers out. Very cool.

    SS possibilities going forward

I didn't realize SS on the Red Sox was slightly more dangerous than being a drummer for Spinal Tap. At the risk of being a broken record, I argue again for Elvis Andrus. He's cheap, still decent defensively, and likely won't be a disaster at the plate. If folks get healthy, he can be cut anytime.

    How's Boras Doing This Off-Season?

I'm not sure I agree with this. In situations where you hire someone as an advisor for their particular skills, you're relying on their judgment -- when you hire an attorney, an auto mechanic, a realtor, etc right? Montgomery hired Boras and presumably agreed to his 5% agent commission because...

    How's Boras Doing This Off-Season?

And how. Coming off multiple healthy, strong seasons and heroic playoff run capped with a World Series victory, Montgomery needed to cash in this offseason. We'll never know what really happened, and whether Montgomery turned down bigger offers because Boras assured him he could get more later...

    SS possibilities going forward

Absolutely agreed with this -- Grissom is hopefully a long-term investment at 2B, and I want him to get comfortable there. It's a similar reason I'd rather sign Andrus than flip Rafaela back to SS. For young guys trying to establish themselves in the Majors on a team that doesn't look like it's...

    SS possibilities going forward

This is an interesting thread. Agreed with this. No reason for the Os to part with him cheaply, particularly not to a Division rival. Not sure how we feel about UZR these days, but I pulled up Fangraph's leaderboard by UZR per 150 games played ranks for all 76 players who had 90+ innings (I...

    4.2 - A’s Kickin’

That was the most fun I’ve had watching a Sox game since the Duvall walk off at Fenway last year I think. What a fucking finish. I dare anyone to watch that 11th inning and not love baseball even a little.

3/29/24 - Red Sox at Mariners

I was bummed about turning 40 a few weeks ago, and a friend who had suffered a lot of loss told me something that put that in perspective: “The only thing worse than turning 40 is not turning 40.” Happy Birthday!!!! Eat something you shouldn’t! !!!

    Dylan Cease traded to Padres

Definitely interesting, and sort of the opposite approach to building a starting rotation as the Mariners, Rays, Red Sox, Cubs, etc. of building from within. The Padres are all about trading for pitchers that have proven themselves elsewhere: Snell, Musgrove, Darvish, King, Clevinger, Manaea...

    Dylan Cease traded to Padres

Those are the Padres 5th and 8th ranked prospects per MLB. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/padres (Bleis and Yorke to answer your next question, although don’t know how they stack up)

    Patriots' 2024 Free Agency Thread

Plenty of FA WRs left: Mike Williams, Hunter Renfrow, Tyler Boyd, Curtis Samuel, Hollywood Brown. Given how reliable the reporting was on Ridley, I assume this means the Pats will sign someone by the end of the day.

    Is Ryland Our Placekicker?

Great response, not great to hear your insightful and useful concerns about a Kicker the Patriots spent a 4th round pick on (this is where I try not to think about how Puka Nacua went 60 picks later.... ugh). I can't evaluate Kickers, but this certainly doesn't seem promising. The good news is...
