Well he was on the Tigers in the 2013 ALCS and got a taste of what Fenway is like in the postseason. Maybe he found it agreeable? Or maybe pitching for this team is a good way to set himself up for his next contract?

This has just become the most educational trade deadline thread ever.

Right, and 100 games worth of data is still actually not much of a sample size, when you are trying to guess what will happen next. Sox' relievers might or might not prevent the runs that need preventing, based on the numbers. This is where the analytics drop off and Cora and his staff have to...

Anytime the Sox have to weigh a higher level prospect with no ML experience against a guy who has arrived sooner and looks fine, I can't help but remember Scott Cooper, who cost us a HOF level player because he arrived in the majors first. Not saying Downs is Bagwell; just saying Chaim's job is...

For everyone talking about going big on a trade for Scherzer, I will just point out that we have a starting pitcher of similar caliber preparing to rejoin the team fairly soon. More is always better, but I think I'd rather they plug some more glaring holes on the position player side. Honestly...

    2021 Draft

So are Will Taylor and Peyton Stovall not signing with anyone? Football players? Seems like all of the undrafted kids ranked in the top 100 are high schoolers so I presume they have a few options on the table.

    2021 Draft

That is cool. We have a kid in the neighborhood who I umped and kinda assistant-coached, and who is going to UCLA in '22 as a RHP. It'll be fun to see him come up next year and remember those days when I prayed the catcher was ready to actually catch the ball when this kid was throwing 75 or so...

Marcelo Mayer, and his gorgeous hair, drafted by Sox / 4 Overall

Since many if not all of us here were in the Leiter camp, I wonder if it's fair to ask whether this is a better outcome than getting the top pitcher in a more generic sense. We don't really know much about what a teenager will turn into so on the individual level we can marvel at the scouting...

    2021 Draft

Or gets old in four years, which is about the earliest you'd see Mayer I'd think.
