    Celtics vs. Warriors, NBA Finals

I'm pretty sure the Heat were intentionally leaving Smart open in order to double team Tatum. As in, Spoelstra's not the sort of dumbass who'd think it a good idea to leave Brown uncovered for the sake of doubling Tatum. Smart's not actually a bad shooter and I'm content with him both getting...

    Celtics vs. Warriors, NBA Finals

I think you could credibly make the argument that every team the Celtics beat on the way to the Finals is better than any team the Warriors faced doing the same. It's certainly not definitive, but I wouldn't look at someone like they're insane for arguing that any of the KD+Kyrie Nets, Bucks, or...

Celtics trade Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford and a 1st round pick to Spurs for Derrick White

Is the shooting really off? If he'd just made eight or nine more threes this year he'd have the same 3PT% as last year. Seems pretty safe to say that his career average is pretty much how good he is as a 3pt shooter: ~34.5%, worse than Richardson, but not substantially so.

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

Sorry, he was fourth excluding Romo in passing grade and sixth (again excluding Romo) in overall grade. Seems like they didn't particularly find in favor of Brady's contributions when running the football.

    Tracking the rookie QBs

And his current level of performance has the current Patriots offense, which by and large lacks any premier receiving talent, as the 11th best overall by DVOA and the 11th best by Pass DVOA which, combined with the defense's performance, has the team as the second best in the NFL and best in the...

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

Brady was fourth or fifth in 2010 depending on whether or not you count Romo's 200 or so dropbacks, not 16th, and there wasn't that much of a difference between him and the guys ahead of him. Regardless, the sort of fatal problem with what you said here is that PFF Passing Grade is more highly...

The Game Ball Thread: Wk. 12 vs Titans

The thing about that play, using a measurement from my mk. 1 human eyeball on the All-22, is that Meyers doesn't seem to slow down until the very last moment; Byard just closes the gap really fast. I think. Which makes the ball look a lot more horizontally underthrown than it really was. Not...

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

I'm probably more blindly pro-Mac than you are, and I'd like to add on that the adjusted number would also go up if the drives where Harris fumbled in the red zone and on the goal line against the Dolphins and Texans, Bolden fumbled against the Bucs, and Bourne fumbled against the Chargers ended...

Man in the Arena on ESPN Plus

Yeah, that was my thinking. If you've seen the 2001 America's Game, you've pretty much seen this, although Bledsoe's involvement is somewhat new. I imagine once the series moves on beyond the three years with good America's Game docs (2001, 2003, 2004), it'll really hit its stride, especially...

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

Something that stands out here is the delta between Mac's raw and adjusted points per drive. 0.14 isn't some massive number, but it really is a lot bigger than the numbers for Cam, Brady, and Herbert. It's definitely nice that the really terrible turnovers by the skill positions have largely...

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

Just to comment on something, it's not as though Jones needs to increase his footspeed. It's more than fair to take his pro-day 40 time with a grain of salt, but it really wasn't bad, and he's shown good ability to move around in the pocket and some credibility as a scrambler when needed. You're...

    Tracking the rookie QBs

I think if Mac keeps up his level of play from the last two weeks, or better yet improves upon it, and the production follows, he'll definitely be competitive with Chase if for no reason other than the virtue of the fact that he's a QB. But yeah, right now Chase is running away with it. Still...

    2021 MVP watch

Henry has zero place in the discussion whatsoever. His numbers are almost entirely a function of high volume. The only real reason he might not appear to have statistical peers is because other teams are smart enough not to run the ball 30+ times a game for negative EPA. He's not dominant, he...

    Tracking the rookie QBs

It's actually hilarious how untrue this is. The predictive part has already been covered, and if you wanna learn how the grades are calculated and what they mean, you can literally go to their website and read all about them. This reminds me of that time a few years back when some congressman...

I have a very, very strong feeling that Jones goes second in a redraft right now.
