...and any attempt to credit Dombrowski for drafting those guys must be weighed against the consideration that he wished to continue his spend both money and prospects to "win now." The blind squirrel may be able to find the nut, but it takes a watchful squirrel not to lose it to one of his fellows.

To err is human; three errors is the Red Sox: the defense thread.

I don't know/care how DRS are calculated, but I can tell you, as a former high school 1B, that Casas excels at scooping up low/short hop throws and saving throwing errors.

A Dream of 2025, What is Going Right and Looks like the Sox can Build On

True, we don't know what his defense will look like at 2B. If he is an average defender there, then I like him as a bat-first 2B. And, yeah, I'm projecting that his hitting remains solid. I'm not that impressed with Meidroth or Yorke. Maybe there's better value in a trade. We'll see.

If Grissom doesn't pan out, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox move Wong to 2B if/when Teel is ready to assume full-time catching duties.

So did a lot of people, so you're in good company.

When Is It Okay To Worry About Triston Casas: An Attempt at the Reverse Jinx

I don't think that $150M is going to get it done. In any case, I hope to see him in Boston for the rest of his career.

    How's Boras Doing This Off-Season?

If Boras' style does render him obsolete, so much the better for baseball!

Red Sox, Ceddanne Rafaela agree to contract extension

Well, that's the thing, though. We haven't seen a lot of swings yet*. Guys can take time to develop (Pedroia, Casas), while others never get it (Middlebrooks, Dalbec). It's way too early to make a judgment on how good of a hitter he's going to be. Personally, I like the way he turns on inside...

    SS possibilities going forward

Yeah, Hamilton is very quickly proving the Red Sox wrong. Who knows if Romy can be the guy, but he's the next man up. The Sox are very quickly running out of options.

Red Sox, Ceddanne Rafaela agree to contract extension

I've seen enough high-quality swings from Rafaela to be optimistic about his bat. Even if he doesn't pan out, though, $8M isn't a very big gamble.

Nick Pivetta to the 15-Day IL retroactive to April 6, with a right elbow flexor strain. (Bernardino called up)

Stuff happens...Like I said, I'm just glad that the Sox long-term plan is starting to yield some fruit.

Benj4ever said: The Red Sox haven't signed a starting pitcher to a multi-year deal since 2019, Midnight Ryder Jones made the above quote, not I. In any event, I applaud the Sox for sticking to their plan of developing young pitchers instead of trading them away.

Exactly. Counting de Grom or Ohtani is disingenuous, because neither team was expecting them to be available at this point

The Sox did sign Criswell for this. Right now we have to hope he's up to the task.

    SS possibilities going forward

If I were the Sox I'd let Hamilton "prove me wrong" before looking elsewhere, especially since I'm looking for a short-term fix at this point.
