Satisfying win for a short handed Yankees team. Aaron Hicks had 3 hits, and caught a ball hit near the LF wall in the top of the ninth, and looked good doing it, almost athletic.

Someone could have made a lot of money betting that NY would lose Cole’s start and win the other three in TOR.

Great series, on to CIN.

The Volpe HR was his hardest hit ball thus far this season, 108.7.

I remember the "71% of the world is covered by water" line being used for Melky after he robbed Manny Ramirez of a HR in the pre-Twitter days (and I'm sure for many other HR robberies on other teams I don't remember). Obviously Melky was not nearly the defender Bader is.
It was once said that “Ocean covers 3/4 of the earth’s surface and Garry Maddox covers the rest.”

Judge with his 5th HR in 5 games, 1-0. He is tied for the AL lead now at 13, despite missing 10 days.

As someone playing him in a home run league this week, it’s getting really annoying.
Be thankful his ball off the top of the wall last night ended up reversed into a double, it was very close to 6 in 5 games. :)

That may have been an pitch clock violation automatic ball, assuming you're talking about the Henry Ramos AB
That makes more sense. Normally the app tells you if there was a violation, but that time it just called a pitch right down the middle a ball so I was pretty confused.

Albert Abreu impressive again. Pretty timely.
Very close to ugly though, the first batter was called out by this awful ump on a 3-2 pitch that missed, the next batter hit a bullet that DJ made a nice play on, the third batter walked.

I am just happy he’s not walking the ballpark.

Good job keeping Holmes out of the game.

Strange starting times the next two days, 4 PM tomorrow (depends on the ballpark but generally this means funky shadows for the first few innings) and then a ridiculous 11:30 AM start on Sunday because it's the Peacock game.

Peraza is 4-5 with 2 HRs tonight in AAA, he’s now hitting .358 with a .970 OPS. Absurd he is not starting every night for NY.

Pretty excited to see the corresponding Greg Allen move, Hicks being DFAd makes a lot of sense as Allen is also a switch-hitting 4th OF. I don't believe they'll actually dump Hicks until they do, but logically that should be the move.

(They'll probably DFA Calhoun)

Maybe Hicks is behind-the-scenes being a dick about his 4th OF role and the Yankees feel compelled to boot him for the sake of team chemistry. One can dream. :)

But yeah, it's going to be Calhoun.

I called that, WHOOOO!

Sorry, Aaron, we’ll always have that catch in the gap in MIN and your homer off the pole against Verlander in the playoffs and your first few years here, but this needed to happen.

Well, Aaron, we'll always have that one catch in Minnesota and the home runs pimped.

I always liked him, but he was never the same after the surgery.

With everything else going on, it's easy to overlook Ben Rortvedt's Yankee debut today.

Good win, now tomorrow we have fastballs at noon (actually 11:30), Hunter Greene vs. the season debut of Luis Severino.

A combined 6 1 0 0 1 8 from the bullpen today, Marinaccio, King, Holmes and Weber.

Would have been nice for Brito to go long since I doubt Sevvy will tomorrow, but at least all those bullpen outs came in a winning effort.

Pete Rose was sitting in the front row today and Judge was talking to him on and off, funny that he went 4-4 with three singles and a double (and a walk) in front of Rose.

Greg Allen said he didn't get to the ballpark until the 2nd or 3rd inning, ended up scoring the winning run in the 10th.

Hmm, actually they will need someone else for the game next Saturday as German isn't eligible to return until next Sunday, but I guess they'll deal with that then.

With Greg Allen around now, Cabrera should probably go down for Peraza when they're back home on Tuesday.

Torres DH
Judge RF
Rizzo 1B
LeMahieu 3B
Bader CF
Volpe 2B
Peraza SS
Rortvedt C
Allen LF

bench: Higgy, Bauers, IKF, Calhoun

That's a ton of SBs from the bottom half of the lineup, and a really good defensive team. Let's try that until Stanton is back, thanks.

NY seems to rest guys more than any other team, still they end up with tons of injuries. Can't believe Judge isn't starting today:

1. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
2. Anthony Rizzo (L) 1B
3. DJ LeMahieu (R) 3B
4. Willie Calhoun (L) DH
5. Harrison Bader (R) CF
6. Jake Bauers (L) RF
7. Anthony Volpe (R) SS
8. Isiah Kiner-Falefa (R) LF
9. Kyle Higashioka (R) C

Severino looks inspired by Hunter Greene, throwing 99 by people.
