Even the Pirates magical season is but a minor speed bump for this Rays team. Only the ‘84 Tigers have had more wins through 31 games (since 1961).

The Cardinals are awful. Currently down 7-2 to LAA in the 3rd. Bases are loaded w/ 1 out and Flaherty just got pulled after getting hit in the hand (maybe?) by a comebacker up the middle. What a mess from a team predicted to finish first in their division.

EDIT: Ended up 10-2 through 3. Flaherty with a really nice 10 ER in 2 1/3 innings.

Not surrounding their 2 studs, probable future hall of Famers, with enough other talent, specifically with pitching?

Arenado isn't exactly hitting. They are 6th in the NL in OBP but only 12th in Runs.

I don't understand what's going on with St. Louis.
It's a lot of things. Their pitching staff can't put anyone away. I don't know how to find it, but the batting average against on 2-strike pitches must be astronomical. (Edit: Found it. They're dead last in Hits against, HR against, and BAA with 2 strikes. 29th in WHIP.)

They're getting on base but they can't drive anyone in. They can't get that hit when they need it.

The dead-pull Arenado decided to retool his swing in the offseason so he could go the other way more effectively just in time for the shift to be outlawed.

Contreras has hit pretty well but he's a nightmare defensively and I don't think he calls a very good game. The framing dropoff from Molina has been really noticeable.

The Tiggers just swept their series with the Mets, besting Scherzer and Verlander. Eduardo Rodriguez was amazingly wonderful today, but it's hard to judge, given that the Mets have lost 9 out of their last 11 games. Money doesn't always buy you happiness, I guess.

Angels finish their sweep of the Cardinals, who are now 10-22.

The last time Cardinals were 12 games under .500 was September 27, 1999.

Chapman's such a bum. Royals came back from 7 down against the O's, and Aroldis just gave it back (4 stolen bases and a balk this inning. So far)

Randy pimped the F out of a HR against the Yankees and then they beaned him in the ribs on the 1st pitch his next two at bats. Going to be some fireworks at the Trop this weekend.

Hard to believe the Royals are only one game better than the A's. They should at least have some offense on that team, but nope.

No warning until after the 2nd HBP.

Beyond the umpires letting this get out of control by just letting the Yankees target Arozarena repeatedly, the bigger problem is the league office is filled old school goons who generally think it's fine to throw a rock 95+ at someone because the pitcher was embarrassed.

Well, that and more broadly it's still socially acceptable to commit A&B on a baseball field because someone hit a dinger off you and didn't just quickly round the bases with their head down.

I've got to be honest, I may have underestimated just how good Yadi Molina was. Like, I knew he was basically a borderline HoF level catcher just off of his catching ability and handling of the pitching staff, but seeing the struggles they have had from top to bottom with Contreras behind the plate has been seriously eye opening.

The offense and starting pitching has been so good it hasn’t mattered, but the Rays bullpen is the obvious flaw of the team. They really couldn’t afford the Fairbanks injury.

And with the A's win tonight, they get to share the basement together.

It must be so nice to be a competitive team that's not in the AL East.

The AL East is 83-37 in non-division games, that is a 112-50 pace.

Cal Quantrill had himself a game today... didn't give up a hit until there were two out in the 7th. Karinchak and Clase did what they're expected to do and Cleveland takes the first series against Minnesota with a 2-0 one-hit victory. This ends a streak of 5 consecutive series losses for the Guardians, the worst stretch in Francona's 11 years in Cleveland.

They just needed to get rid of Oscar Gonzalez.

Let’s see what the Mets look like now that Verlander and Scherzer are back, but 17-18 with that payroll is still a big fail up to this point.

They could always use an in-game managerial upgrade (Boone is good at never losing his shit at press conferences, that's his big strength) but that seems pretty unlikely after he was somewhat key in Judge's FA wooing. Judge will be back Tuesday, that will help some.
