Hopefully everyone had a nice Xmas break. Back to business tonight in Ottawa. Let’s keep it rolling.

They sent Smith down over the break to bank some cap space but he's back and in the lineup tonight. Not sure on the goalie, would guess Swayman.

Marchand - Bergeron - DeBrusk
Zacha - Krejci - Pastrnak
Hall - Coyle - Frederic
Foligno - Nosek - Smith

Grzelyck - McAvoy
Lindholm - Carlo
Forbort - Clifton

Can't believe this is Marchand's 900th game, and he's at 822 points. 2.5 more solid seasons should get him to 1000. Crazy from what he was early in his career

Also, Swayman has looked solid in defending against 2 solid breakaways. Challenging the skater and reacting well to the dekes.

What I don't know is if that's just on the ice together in games played with each other or actually linked by assist/goal together
To me it reads as just games played with each other but I don't know for sure.

Okay it's just games played together. Because:
Brad Marchand has 35 goals, 36 assists and a plus-minus of +38 in 119 games with Tim Thomas in his career

It’s probably like 75+% of his points. They’ve been on the same line for more than a decade. Marchand didn’t get a ton of PP time until Cassidy but they have always been on the same PP unit too.

I was curious so I looked it up: Bruins are 2nd in the league in face-off percentage at 55.9. Blackhawks lead at 56.9.

Yeah, it was more rhetorical, it's dumb that they let them play that long after. Call it on the entry if it's off.
The league has made it clear that they would rather let them play then go back and look at it. Would rather review stuff than incorrectly prevent scoring chances.

Not their strongest game of the season so far. What is it about Ottawa that gives them trouble?
The spots on the schedule. First game was their home opener with the Bruins on the 2nd night of a back to back. This one is right after Christmas and they had to fly in the morning.

I don't think that the entirety of it, but your point doesn't build my excitement for the heavy road schedule in the 2nd half.

There’s a reason that teams don’t play .850 hockey over an entire 82 game schedule. They’ll still be alright.
