Second big hit (after the J-Rod Powder Blue 29/50) from a single retail box of 2022 Topps Update!

This has been a great rip. 24 packs, and I'm opening a couple a day to stretch it out. So far (18 packs in) I haven't gotten a single duplicate card -- 252 different cards.

Plus I still have the silver pack with four premium cards. Saving that for Thanksgiving.

The J-Rod and a Trout auto from a box has to be at the Top 1% of Hobby Boxes (mine certainly wasn't that good) but...Update is still my favorite rip of the season for the cost., even if you get skunked on the parallels or hits the inserts are cool, the checklist has a ton of promise, you still get a lot of color. Congrats!

Impulse-bought a Topps Update hobby box, and am kinda surprised how much I'm enjoying the rip - no huge hits, but great photography and puts a nice bow on the season. 18/24 packs deep, no dupes, same with a the Series 2 hobby boxes I opened back in the summer. Will probably need to pick up 30-ish to complete set (due to inserts, subsets, etc.)

And after watching some Silver Pack live breaks on YT, I'll probably sell mine unopened - autos seem way too few and far between.

What are recommended cases now?

(over thanksgiving I started pulling my old cards out, and while those themselves are probably worth nothing (lot of baseball and basketball in the 1991-5 window), it turns out I saved a few other random stuff including a few years of SI for Kids cards including a sheet with the Mia Hamm rookie card, which I'd like to toss in something)

I've been using UltraPro top loaders and OneTouch. Someone upthread did a breakdown of unit prices to target when shopping for them.

I picked up a box. I will open with my son. Between great pics and 2 on card autos for $100 it is a great rip.
I am really surprised at the price and almost think it may be an error. Presale through distributors and ebay were as much as $160-$170. Cheapest I saw on ebay recently was $135. This would be a great group case break.

if 2021 is any guide, best bet is wait for January 2024 or even fall 2023, and get them for 30% off from card show brokers.

My local stores have gotter their Stadium Club, so it's out there. Topps shipping is just a bit slower but you're not getting people selling off boxes there either so, take your trade off.

SC looks like a really nice product this year, though I had a couple pricier vintage purchases and with Xmas coming I'm holding off on wax for a bit.

Today's supposed to be the day you can sign up for the Montgomery 528 Membership Club, but I'll be goddamned if I can figure out how on Topps' piece of shit website. If anybody figures it out, please post here!

what is this? Montgomery 528 Membership Club
Answering my own question, it finally lit up on the website. log in and search for Membership.

link to description here: https://www.topps.com/582montgomeryclub

For $199, you get two sets (a 20-card collectors only set and the 2023 main set with a "Montgomery" stamp), you get exclusive pre-sale access to Bowman Chrome Sapphire and Topps Chrome Sapphire boxes, and access to some other garbage sets as well.

I received and ripped 2 boxes of the 2022 Stadium Club. No real bangers. If anyone is putting a set together, hit me up with a need list once you're close.

So, I got one of the redemptions I've been waiting for since 2017.

The redemption was for a 2016-17 Kenneth Faried, patch auto, from Panini Noir. Panini Noir is a VERY high end product. As of today, that card might sell for $5-10 (hard to tell, as it appears they never actually made any). But had I received the card and sold it when the product was released, it was probably going to fetch $25-50.

Instead of giving me that card, they sent me a 2012-13 rookie auto from Totally Certified (a much cheaper product) for Tobias Harris. Now, Harris is obviously a better player, but the card I got is worth roughly $5-10.

That's the bullshit I'm talking about. These redemptions should be based on the value of the card when the product was released (you know, when you fucking bought the product, or submitted the redemption), not whatever it might be today.

Last week, they replaced my 2016-17 Panini Noir Spotlight Signatures auto, /125, IT4 (Isaiah Thomas, Celtics) with a fucking non-numbered 2014 Gold Standard patch auto of Nerlens Noel. Spotlight signatures is one of the grails from Panini Noir. Even today, the same card for IT4 in a Lakers uniform goes for $44, would have gone for north of $100 when I redeemed mine. The Curry one from that year, to /125, just sold for $6,000, and I get a Nerlens fucking Noel that nobody wants.

They also replaced my other IT4 from Panini Noir, autographed, prime color patch, numbered to /40 with a 2012-13 Panini Marquee auto of Paul Westphal numbered to /299, oh and all of these replacement cards have sticker autos. Panini Noir doesn't have sticker autos.

It's funny, they've replaced about 5 cards in recent weeks, but none of them are the high end cards (cards that have still retained value, like Jaylen Brown RPAs, DeMarre Carroll Logoman, etc.). Guessing I won't see those for years until their values come down.

There is another one on the way right now. A 2017-18 Justin Patton RPA from Panini Noir. You have no idea if you are getting the card, or a replacement until they show up. I'll keep you guys updated. That card now is worth $5-10. Had I sold it when I submitted the redemption, it was $50-100. I'll bet even money I either get the Patton, or a replacement worth $5.

Cmon DOTB, you’re not THAT far from the Everett Boys and Girls Club!

(I would be frustrated too, and probably more)

(me reading all the bummer SC boxes)

Must mean the good stuff is out there waiting for me! The cards look great this year but I might just end up targeting some singles after the meh Update and A&G Boxes I had (though I still loved Update as a set this year).

On the bright side, I have 10~ cards left in my 1953 Bowman set. Sadly it's a lot of the big hitters (I think it'll be a long long time and probably some sales of other collectables I have before I can justify even a passable Mickey Mantle - I didn't realize how dumb Mantle cards are until this endeavor) but it's really coming along nicely and I think most of them are a step above filler condition at least, which I'm happy about. It's a truly gorgeous set - luckily no major rookies and only a subsection of the stars that make many of those early 50s sets truly painfully expensive. It's also been really cool just getting a glimpse into that era of baseball.

DotB, maybe send them a letter from your attorney suggesting misleading promotions?? Loss of value due to unreasonable delay, maybe? ;)

Believe me, I've tried sending nasty letters, emails, etc. over the years. Looked into the various class actions. I don't really have the time to go back and track how fucked I've gotten by them over the years, nor do I even remotely understand how a company can promote, market and sell a product they don't even fucking have....Honestly, given the monopoly these companies have on the market, there's probably a class action/anti-trust suit that could have a shot too...But it is what it is, as they say.
