Well, I didn’t want to settle in on Saturday night to this news:

By virtue of being in the unusual position of holding a winning record, the Wizards do not yet suck as bad as they typically do, so there’s a decent chance JT will be deeply missed. But the whole team has been playing lights out so far and I’m confident the rest of the squad can pick up the slack.

6:00 tip. NBCSB/NBCSW/League Pass

Whiz on the Wiz.

I suspect (hope?) it’s a case of not wanting him to play the b2b on a sore ankle, so hold him out of one game, hold Al out of the second game, and have a reasonable shot at winning both.

Exactly. This strikes me as a calculated move and not a cause for concern.

Yeah, but… aren’t the Wizards better than the Hornets?

Will be interesting to see if Al is sat for the back end

Unclear to me in the early-going whose better. Hornets have really struggled without Lamelo Ball, and he's day-to-day right now, and now they're without Hayward. They own the 27th worst NTRG, mostly due to having the worst offense in the league so far. Their defense has actually been 13th in the league by DTRG. But the Wizards aren't much better -- 22nd NTRG in the league, and they've been relatively healthy.

I hope they sit Al and let Kornet get some run against Porzingis. Seems like a good match-up for him.

Disagree. Let Al play Porzingis who spends more time outside and let Kornet battle with Plumlee. I think it fits both skill sets better.

Hopefully Tatum being out doesn't cause Brown to take a bunch of bad shots. Ideally they just run the offense.

Not sure what Gorman and Scal are saying, but Wiz announcers suggesting the timeout is to determine whether they should challenge the call. Nothing would be more emblematic of the Wizards franchise than burning their challenge on a first quarter offensive foul

I think the call is so egregious that they felt like they had to challenge. I guess 2 points is 2 points.

Turnover on a play that should have been free throws is about as valuable as a challenge can be. First quarter doesn't matter, all points are created equal.

Well played first quarter. Brown is just playing his game. Ball is moving. They are getting defensive boards. Good energy.

What a bad no-call....everyone on the court stopped waiting for the necessary whistle

Charge? Walk? Block? I mean anything?
I get it's a tough call in that all three of those are in play. But not calling anythign is ridiculous---there's an advantage to team with the ball (as we saw) and about 7 guys on the court stopped playing because they thought the NBA rules were being called, which would have required a whistle there.

THere are times where a no-call is a reasonable, even Solomonic, way to handle something uncertain. That was not one of them.
