My memory is fuzzy: didn't a rain-out play a part in the Sox come-back in '04? Anyway, it's likely to be raining tonight, but how hard is hard to tell. I guess if MLB wants to extend the series, they'll postpone the game. I wonder how much is up to TBS.

There was a rain out in 2004 was between games 2 & 3.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that this is the most overmatched NY has ever been in a postseason series in my lifetime, on paper and now in reality. If both teams were healthy and equally rested, HOU would still be better, but HOU is better rested, healthier, plus on top of being a better team, they just match up really well against this NY team.
We still have to see how the rest of this series plays out, but I would argue that they were more overmatched against the Big Red Machine in the '76 World Series. Only game in that series where the Yanks were competitive after the fifth inning was Game 2.

The cradle of the game.
Reminder:

As we approach yet another Yankee Elimination Day ("YED"), it's important to remember that if said elimination occurs after 6:00m p.m. ET, YED is celebrated both on that day "YED (Proper)", as well as the following day "YED (Observed)"

Please enjoy your YED(s) responsibly.

Eh, he had the bases loaded and nobody out, maybe Cole gives up 2 runs instead of the 3 inerited Cole runs Trevino allowed? If he leaves Cole in and he allows 2 the narrative is why he didn't pull Cole for a reliever that could strike batters out there.

In hindsight was leaving Chapman off the ALCS roster wise?
Absolutely, he has lost velocity, the ability to throw strikes and he didn’t seem to give a shit. NY left better pitchers (currently) than him off the roster and haven’t used all the ones they did add.

I see we all know who to blame if this doesn't happen.

Yes. Regarding the 2004 rainout. Game 4 was a washout and my game 4 tickets became game 5 tickets. It caused 4 games in a row hence the name of the documentary “4 Days in October”.
According to Wikipedia, it was 5 games in a row (October 16, 17, 18, 19, 20). Game 2 was on the 13th and game 3 was on the 16th.

Five games in a row ... but four wins in a row, which is what the doc title refers to

No, it was not wise.

It's one less hated Yankee for Red Sox fans to dump on when he comes up small.

To your larger point, I get the feeling had they played 18 innings yesterday the Yankees weren't going to score.

This is one of the reasons why I love baseball; some players shrink when the lights shine brightest in October, others rake against some tomato can on the Royals or A's in July on a Monday night.

No I get that. But wouldn’t the rainout game have been game 3? Like game 2 is on the 13th and game 3 is on the 16th. The post I was replying to indicated game 4 was rain delayed.
Ah, never mind, carry on

Ahh my memory has failed me. I just remember holding onto my “game 4” tickets praying that they would win game 4 so I wouldn’t have to refund the buyer. Narrator: “they did”.

edit. Come to think of it maybe I originally had game 3 tickets. Either way the tickets had become game 5. This is probably more likely so original game 4+5 ticket holders could go to games on their originally scheduled date and they pushed game 3 ticket holders back a couple days.

Being surrounded by sad Yankees fans as they're about to get swept would be like being in a strip mall parking lot if you're Reese McGuire.

Don’t worry, nobody’s ever blown a 3-0 lead. Impossible.

Professional gentlemen often commemorate YED by wearing a blue and white pinstripe Oxford to the office. Mine's freshly ironed and hanging neatly.

People forget how impossible 2004 was. And is.

This game needs to get played. I need to see the Yankees playing in an empty stadium with a morgue like setting. Sets up nicely for the funeral. This needs to happen.
