No news on Ty Montgomery yet right? His going down decreases the offensive depth even more, because they can line him up anywhere. Hopefully he can come back healthy later this year.

Only news I have seen is that it’s an ankle and BB said he flew back with the team.

Not every injury is due to mismanagement. Sometimes knee injuries flare up even despite the best medical staff and trainers looking after it. Par for the course in the NFL.

Ty Montgomery has spent his career dealing with nagging injuries, too. He's always been nicked up, in and out. He's played in 79 games in his 8 year career, and only played a full season once. Although he did play 15 games in his 2nd season.

He's had 3 seasons of 8 games or less.

One of the things that makes it hard to have intelligent takes as a sports fan is that we just don't have enough information to make intelligent assessments. Like I'm sure team's mismanage injuries or take calculated risks that turn out badly, but from the outside how can you know? Not every team has a good offensive line coach situation but does the Yates/Patricia combo do the trick or not--hard to tell unless you know the coaching they're getting. Is the the chain of command and division of play calling responsibility and divisions of responsibilities for the Pats--or the Rams or the Dolphins or the Jets--a good one or not? Again we don't really know what it is for any team, so again who knows?

Montgomery is as impressive a physical specimen as you'll find, he's tough enough to have made it 8 years in the league as a back, and his arm might fall off in a stiff breeze. Hard to place any blame anywhere--two obvious possibilities are he aggravated his injury or he thought he could be effective with his injury and they concluded not so much.

I knew something was up when he didn't pick up the first down on that 2nd and 17 run up the middle.

I feel like this could potentially be a big loss. That role is so important for this offense and Montgomery's skillset was really suited for it. Don't know who gets those snaps now, we'll likely see more of Stevenson but while his hands are good I don't know how many actual routes (and not check downs) he can run.

Mac Jones, Guy, and Cajuste OUT for Sunday.
Everyone else on the practice report is questionable.

Also Jakobi Meyers.

Mike Reiss: The Patriots have downgraded WR Jakobi Meyers to out for Sunday. This is a surprise to me, as Meyers seemed optimistic about his chances late this week. Team playing it safe.

Cajuste is headed to IR, while Marcus Cannon is being elevated from the practice squad.

Mike Reiss: The Patriots are elevating OT Marcus Cannon from the practice squad for Sunday’s game. They are also placing OT Yodny Cajuste (thumb) on IR.

I suppose Dugger will be a game time decision (or he's good to go).

With Guy out I wonder if Sam Roberts gets to dress for his first NFL game?

I’d like to see a return to the Indy game plans of 2017(?). Play a lot of 6 OL and run it down the Packers throats.
They probably have to try something like this, but unfortunately the GB front seven is gonna be a lot harder to push around like those early to mid-10s Colts teams.

I heard something on Patriots Unfiltered that the GB run D stats may be a bit skewed - as a lot of stats are, three games into a season - suggesting that the Packer defense is more stout than the numbers allegedly show.

Fitzmagic. Totally logical choice. Would complete the AFC East rounds, and he's still probably got a couple of decent games left in him.

Danny Etling is on GB's practice squad as well. He's probably not high on the Pat's list though considering they looked to change his position in his second season.

G Gilbert? That tall drink of water from UConn? Wonder if this forces them to IR Mac, or cut Hoyer.
I would think the more likely scenario would find Hoyer on IR. If they were inclined to IR Mac, having him practice (albeit lightly) on Friday was foolish.
Most likely they cut someone else and bring in a FA this week and cut him once Hoyer / Mac are back.

I didn't include him because I think they need to find someone who has actual regular season experience to be an ear for Zappe in the best case, and ready to go in when Wynn gets him killed in the worst case. Basically the 2022 version of Damon Huard, John Friesz, or Colt McCoy.

I don't expect them to place Mac on IR and agree Hoyer would be the more likely candidate. However, Mac did NOT participate in practice Friday. He was on the field early on but didn't practice.

Still, if they were inclined to place Jones on the IR they likely would have done it already, imo.

I personally think its time for Hoyer to retire and assume the mantel of QB coach.

I've tried to find the quote but can't seem to, but I'm almost positive someone asked him about switching to coaching and he basically said "Less money and more hours? No thanks"

After this performance the player thing may not really be on the table anymore. But I’m also sure he’s made enough to pick his favorite leisure activity and make it his next career.

His performance Sunday, such as it was, was fine. He was 5/6 before getting knocked out. There are reasons to look elsewhere, but BB brought him back for a reason. If he moves on now, it's likely going to be injury-related, not performance-related.

That’s totally fair - but he also has to think about his health long term and how more concussions could impact his quality of life post football - especially considering his age.
