Spurs can definitely use a big but I’m not sure what they would do to replace Dejounte. Tre Jones looks to be a decent backup PG but I don’t like him as a starter. They have a ton of 2/3’s so clearly they need to figure out a way to ease that log jam. They need developmental minutes for Primo. Figure Branham and Wesley might get the Pop red shirt but Primo saw action so one or both may need minutes as well. Sochan would get backup minutes right away, most likely.

And then you have guys like Vassell, Keldon, Walker, etc.

We’ll see what they do in FA. Ayton still feels like a good fit to me.
Don't forget Romeo.

Have to imagine another shoe will drop if Collins isn't in the deal. Hawks still want to get rid of some salary. Maybe Hurter is available for the TPE and a pick.

Well they would cut salary by moving Gallo. Collins dealt still a possibility, but also, Murray means they can afford to let Wright walk.
Depending what they do with Collins, Huerter could get moved, but Hunter and Capela are possibilities too (especially if they make a Gobert deal too).

Suns defense take a big hit there.

I'm also happy to let Phoenix, LA (Clips & Lakers), Dallas, and GS battle it out while the Celtics focus on getting by Giannis.

only 4.5 mil of Gallo’s deal is guaranteed so that’s interesting for spurs and in assessing hawks motives

Durant for Ayton+ rumors. No idea if there's smoke or just wishful thinking, but +500 is still only 16.7% so likely just bettors buying a lottery ticket in case it's real.

So, speculating the Durant will want to go to Phoenix and working backwards from there?

Such a logical SNT for both sides but the Pistons may have something to say about this.

Gallo and multiple firsts for Murray gaining steam.

Spurs re-set, Atlanta gets a great fit.
Assume for $ reasons they still trade Collins?''

Edit- could keep Collins if they get off Huerter I guess.
Wow. That would be interesting. By not taking back Collins, Atlanta would be better and/or could move him in another deal. I would need multiple picks/swaps to even consider this, if I’m the Spurs.

As noted, Reddish doesn’t make enough to cost a first round pick unless they are desperate (both in terms of needing to dump the contract and finding a taker for it), neither of which is very likely. More importantly, while Fournier is overpaid, he is a useful bench player who would help shore up a need (bench scoring and shooting). Reddish is terrible and would just be burning money for future draft rights, which isn’t desirable.
Not trying to be snarky here, honestly asking. Can someone explain to me why the bolded is the case? Other than having his minutes go down in 15 games with the Knicks, the ATL version of Reddish seems like someone who could be useful for a team looking for some bench scoring. Are we just basing this off 15 games with a bad NYK team?

Reddish has yet to show the capacity for growth. I loved Reddish in high school, but his cruising at Duke was a major red flag for me. I don't blame players for cruising, per se, but when you're on cruise control and getting dommed by the Future NBA Scrubs of America, you might not be as good as you think you are.

I am really not understanding SA's inclination to trade Murray for picks. He's 25, just averaged 21/8/9 and is a tremendous defensive player. He doesn't have a great outside shot, but he's not exactly Ben Simmons. Is it just that they think he'll leave in a few years (he's a FA in 2024) and they are unlikely to be competitive before then? This is baffling to me, he's a player you grow around unless you get a better player to replace him (not draft picks).

He has a career TS% of .512 and a turnover rate twice his assist rate. He did take a step forward shooting the ball last year, and is a very good free throw shooter, so I can see how you can dream on his offensive tools, but they haven’t manifest yet and he’s also not a good or engaged defender and is a bad rebounder too.

He obviously has physical tools. If we were the Rockets you could convince me that he’s an interesting project. But he’s entering his 4th year in the league and is so far away still I don’t think a contending team should have any interest because he probably needs several years of improved development to be in a position to contribute to a team winning. We need players we can rely on to fill rotation roles, not failed prospects who may someday figure out how to be positive NBA players.

Wall is a solid get for the Clippers. He’s in the right place to try to resurrect his career, after the injuries and mothballs.

If Wall is getting the tax MLE as it looks like.... it means Hartenstein is moving on, a potential MLE target for BOS

Kawhi, Playoff P, and Wall will be fun to watch for the 8 games they play together next year.

Wall had one terrible injury, after that though he didn't miss games because he was hurt. HOU did the same thing to him that OKC did with Horford, just didn't play him so they could lose. I doubt he's anywhere near pre-injury Wall, but there isn't a particular reason to think he won't be able to play games

I don't know every inch of his injury history, but he's basically been invisible since 2017. Horford was a completely different story - Al missed a combined 43 games in the five years prior to going to OKC. Not exactly an iron man, but he was a relevant NBA player. Wall missed 41 games in 2018, 50 games in 2019, all of 2020, and 32 games in 2021. I know he was healthy when he sat out this year, but it was a lot more than one terrible injury that caused him to miss almost 200 games in the 4 years before sitting out all of 2022. He was 26 when the Wizards lost to the IT Celtics in the conference semifinals in 7 games - he'll be 32 before the start of this year. Considering how much of his value was tied up in his athleticism when he was actually playing, I can't conjure up much more than a shrug for this move.

Yeah who knows on what he'll have left.

Basically with him it was this...
In 2018 he was having heel issues, he had surgery. There were complications in terms of an infection, then when he was trying to ramp up.... he tore his achilles, ruling him out for at least 12 months.
He supposedly might have been ready for the bubble, but they didn't travel him to play it safe.
2020-21 he played about 40 games, and wasn't that bad. Then HOU shut him down and kept him that way for a full year.

Well the heel and achilles are two injuries right there.

Wall also had knee issues that caused him to miss 33 games in 2012 and 6-8 weeks in 2018. https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/wizards/timeline-john-walls-injury-history-washington-wizards.

After playing 40 games with HOU, the team mentioned that Wall was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/31341085/houston-rockets-john-wall-expected-miss-rest-season-grade-2-hamstring-strain-sources-say. Obviously, since HOU had no intention of playing him again, we can take that with a grain of salt.

He's also some other minor procedures and injuries (as mentioned in the first article linked) but those are just the big ones.

Hopefully for his sake he worked on his jumper while he's been not playing but I still think he's an odds-on favorite to miss a chunk of time the upcoming year.

I think Simmons and Russillo had a good point on their recent podcast: are the Jalen Brunson sweepstakes the lamest ever? He's a fine player, but is he really a difference maker?

Yeah. How much has he benefited from the attention paid to Luka?

I think his DARKO comps are hilarious... Gary Harris, Cory Joseph, Buddy Hield, KCP, Reggie Jackson.
Basically all role players who at one point or another got overpaid

The Knicks never learn, do they?

But I suppose any time you have the chance to sign Allan Houston Joakim Noah Nerlens Noel Evan Fournier Jalen Brunson, you've got to jump at it

The only one on this list I’d consider a comp is Jackson and he’s a pretty good PG in this league. The others either don’t resemble Brunson’s skillset or are not on at his level.

Def an overpay but when you’re in the FA market unless you’re the choice of an elite max player……you’re going to have to overpay to get him.

Totally agree you need to overpay for a FA many times. First, I don't especially love the fit given Randle is ball-dominant and Rose/Quickly are both solid guys who want the ball. All less than Luka wants it, though. But the bigger question I'd ask is whether the Knicks are targeting "finish 5-6 seed" or "win a title" when you're committing this kind of $ to Brunson given what's in place now. There just isn't a ton of upside on that roster---you're betting on Barrett/Reddish I guess and maybe a bit on Brunson. It's not impossible, but feels a year early to me to be making the overpay FA signing, and then only if you see enough from Barrett you think he, Randle, and the FA are a legit competitive "top three" guys. I don't see it---that to me is the "Wizards plan" to be ok but never really a threat. That is still progress for NY in a way, and they have some flexiblity and picks going foward so maybe it's the "get decent, then add" plan but I struggle with the whole thing.

So Det likely out on Ayton. Wonder if they were never really in, or if the Duren pick made them change plans.
