It's very different than the year Nomar was dealt. The FO determined in '04 that the offense was strong enough without Nomar (still in my top 5 Sox players) and needed the defensive improvement- ground ball pitching seemed more dominant then- at SS. X is absolutely the centerpiece of the offense and defense has improved... AND.... I think middle infield defense is less important than in the Nomar days. Not discounting it.... but just less important. No way is he dealt.

Playing along, but a I have small issue with the premise of being tied for the last WC spot on September 3rd. With the trade deadline being July 30th, I think that where they sit at or near the deadline better determines the answers to questions 6&7. That said, I'll crystal ball it with the Sox at least in the 2nd WC position near the deadline.
