39s

Brad Marchand had a hip arthroscopy and labral repair on both hips. Recovery time is approximately six months, which means Marchand will miss the start of the 2022-23 season.

***

Six months should mean the end of November, which (based on this year's schedule) means missing the 1st 18-20 games or roughly the first quarter of the 22-23 season.

I'm tired of signing older player to big money deals just to watch them be shells of their former selves. Hard pass on Giroux.

If everyone is going to be either rehabbing or retired, this isn’t the worst year to play some kids and lose a bunch of games.

Between here and everywhere.
I’m trying to think of any way for the team to tread water until December without Bergeron too - and then sign Bergeron/return Marchand/McAvoy/ and Gryz for the second half of the season and hope it keeps the team healthier and better rested for a playoff run.

But I don’t think without Bergeron/McAvoy/Marchand they don’t dig too deep a hole to get out of.

Yea unless someone is SUPER high on DeBrusk, and thinks Carlo is a late bloomer…

I would do that deal in a cocaine heartbeat. The cap space alone from dealing Carlo is huge.
I’d drive them to Logan.

Trading those players and pulling off the heist of getting that second pick and choosing the guy who the models think is good but not great but also is very big and played well on the “big stage” is so bruins.

Of the 195 voters, Bergeron was 1st on 160, 2nd/3rd on 31. Four voters did not have him in the top 3 (and one of them did not include him in the top 5).

I feel better today about him coming back than I did when they got eliminated. Complete wishcasting but I’m sorta getting my hopes up

Not necessarily - Reilly / Bergeron would be back for some pre-season, a couple more months without Grz / McAvoy / Marchand would be difficult to weather but they've kept their heads above water in the past with similar injury attrition.

Makes it tougher but not impossible or even that unlikely IMO - there are some bad teams out there

I agree - Look at how early the East Conf playoff teams were set this year. The Islanders would be the only team that I'd be nervous about flip-flopping with, but I have not monitored what their possible offseason could look like (e.g., not sure who is likely to leave, other than probably Chara).

I'd like to see them play a lot of younger/unproven players in the first few months while everyone is out (they'll be forced to I'd imagine). Hopefully this allows the staff to identify who might be able to excel at the NHL level and who needs more development. In a best case scenario someone really excels and solidifies themselves as an every game player. Then, when the stars start to return, you (i) have a better idea of what your younger, unproven guys are made of after getting them extended NHL exposure, and (ii) you'll have a better idea of where the team stands in making a playoff run, and can decide to go for the cup or start trading away some pieces for the future.

FWIW, Fluto cited an agent in one of his older articles saying 8/$68m probably wins the day. I’d be shocked if it does, but if he wants it, I’d think any decent GM would do that in a cocaine heartbeat.

I feel like I've seen this play before
Act II will be something about fair offer and sides far apart
Act III will be leaked stories about his (insert here) and (insert here)

maybe I'm just cynical or paying too much attention to other teams' work

He just did a St. Louis radio hit where they fired up the Kyrou for Pastrnak rumors.

The Bruins front office is so insular I can't recall too many leaks that looked like they originated from them. Most of the deals they announce seem to drop out of the sky. Just my opinion, but I don't think Sweeney has cultivated any relationships with press members. They all seem to universally have the knives out for him and I've yet to see anybody carrying his water. I think if he was feeding anybody leaks they'd be out there giving him support for firing Cassidy.

Agents, of course, have their own agendas and can also leak. Hockey agents do appear to be very different from baseball and basketball agents where a lot of the negotiations are done in the press. My guess is all goes quiet until we hear about a deal, a trade, or some form of joint statement that they couldn't reach an agreement and they've mutually agreed to seek a trade partner. I think it will be quiet until close to camp regardless of the outcome.
