The Legend of Steven Kwan continues… 2 walks and a bases-loaded triple. Including spring training, he's at 53 plate appearances without a K this year and he hasn't swung at and missed a pitch yet this season.

He did drop a fly ball today, but Myles Straw bailed him out by scooping it up and getting the force out at 2nd base.

Ya, the new rules at the very least state you have to maintain contact with the base throughout the slide.

1-2 with two more walks and a sac fly today, still hasn’t missed a pitch. He saw 33 pitches in 5 plate appearances

I was listening at work and the radio guys said he went too far on a check swing today, but the no strikeout streak continues. He also set a new record for most times reaching base in the first 5 games of a career with 18.

Ford Frick's Asterisk said:

Cleveland's lineup has been as advertised -- 1 run in 19 innings.
This post hasn't aged well. They are now averaging 7.6 runs/game and have 2 grand slams.

I get the feeling Suzuki was never coming to the east coast, but I am probably just telling myself that.

Just to follow up on this. Brett Phillips caught the first pitch last night from this girl Chloe who is fighting cancer for the second time. He then proceeded to hit a home run, while she was being interviewed by the Rays reporter. Between this, and the video I saw of him running the bases after their game with the kids the other night, he might end up being one of my favorite players to follow.

He’s kind of the team mascot, I think that’s why they keep him around. He’s also a hometown kid. Seminole High.

Think of how infrequently Sterling mentions pitch location. It’s almost always some variation of, “there’s a strike.”

Today's the last day of free mlb extra innings. I've been watching Oakland @ Tampa and it's amazing how much better Oakland is, at the moment. Pitching, hitting, base-running, defense. In every way. I hope this keeps up, but I guess it can't.

The cradle of the game.

But nobody goes from irrelevant to relevant faster than the A's. Way too early to say that's what's happening now, but that franchise seems to rebound quicker than most ('67 to '72-'73-'74, '79 to '81, '97 to '01). And if they somehow give Houston fits, sign me up.

I'm not surprised, if anyone's going to be hurt by a shortened spring training it's gonna be a guy who has to get back his feel for pitching and hitting at the same time.

In fairness, he'd probably start for a lot of teams out of necessity if nothing else - including, let's be honest, the Red Sox.
I'm not sure that's really true, LAD tried to stretch him out last summer and had him in a 60-70 pitch role which he was not very good at, then they sent him back to a one inning role for September. He had a 4.85 ERA after July 23, despite LAD trying to put him into roles that he would be able to succeed in.

Jose Ramirez has driven in 14 runs this season. That's as many as the Diamondbacks and more than the Orioles (12).
