Congrats, but is there a story behind a connection between the BHH and Umass? That banner is like 95 miles from the campus.

Jerry Keefe finally gets his chance. Promoted to Northeastern head coach, with Madigan being named AD. An outstanding move imo that better fits each of their strengths. Rumors that Paul Pearl may fill the associate head coach vacancy too.

I'm hoping to get back to Matthews this year. I saw that RPI is not allowing non-students to attend this year, and I doubt they'll be the only one go to that way before the season starts.

I was able re up for season Tix for Quinnipiac this year, but perhaps that was a ploy to earn some interest on the money before fans aren’t allowed again, and they have to refund the money.

They’ve got two at home v North Dakota, so hope the fans in person makes it to late Fall.

DB - I re-upped for UConn hockey tix the other day. I'm hoping at the very least they allow fans to go if they have proof of vaxx. FWIW UConn plays at the XL Center, not on campus (well last year they did but only because of Covid).

Awesome, StuckonYouk! QU is closer to my house, and I'm in with a group of friends in one of the sections - about 25-30 peeps, although I'm not direct friends with all of them. Free parking on campus, too, and reasonable concession prices, which is great for kids. My son started going to games when he was 8 ish, but is now a moderately surly 16 year old, but one who again might be more willing to go to games with friends. It's a more modern barn with less "nostalgic" atomosphere than a lot of classic college hockey arenas (like the one 15 minutes to the south) but it's a really great place to watch a hockey game. Also cool it share a building with the hoops court, with a main concourse/concession areas connecting the two arenas.

If there was no QU hockey, I'd venture to see more Uconn games for sure -- Hockey East guarantees some great games/opponents.

Geez, I should check this thread more often. I was with Jerry at Matignon in high school, and then after he got through a couple years of USHL, he came to Providence and was there for 4 years (we only overlapped for 2 even though we were the same age, due to the years in Omaha). Hopefully, he succeeds at Northeastern.

He's also been an assistant coach for the US world junior team and the recuriting/talent pipeline at NU is as strong as it's ever been. I think it's fair to say he will find success at NU.

Northeastern taking Western Michigan to OT, 1-1. Both goals were bad turnovers.

Let’s go Hockey East!

This game has been a blast to watch. Both goalies standing on their head and done in by bad turnovers and a snipe by Western Michigan

Come on Huskies close it out

Well that was anticlimactic. Ends on a reviewed goal that just sneaks in

I don’t understand pulling a goalie down 1 with more than 3 minutes left. Especially in the college game where the defense is less disciplined and consistent.

Its called the Rand Pecknold special and he has done it many times. This was one where he shouldn’t have done it as Michigan was starting to come apart at the seams. I’m a Quinnipiac alum and this loss is eating me up but you don’t spot a team like Michigan a 4-0 lead and expect to win.

IIRC the Frozen Four has a real steady following that buys tickets in advance year after year. Either that or the Garden's going to be pretty empty.

Minnesota hasn't been since 2014 so they will bring a bunch of fans. Michigan I believe has a big alumni contingent in the Northeast and they helped fill Allentown last night pretty well. Denver travels decently well as they were at the Frozen Four in Tampa I went to. Not sure on Minnesota State though. No team travels like North Dakota though.

A quick scan of the resale market appears to show that tickets are going for above face. My balcony seats cost me ~$180 per seat for both nights (all three games) and there seems to be a price floor of about ~$220 (before fees on both ends) for the cheapest pair on Ticketmaster.

Travel is much more expensive this year though. I'm guessing lodging too but not sure if there's anything else big in Boston at the time. It was huge when North Dakota was here a half dozen or so years ago, but BU was there then too IIRC

It might be the Michigan effect. They haven't won a title since 1998 and this may be the most talented team on paper in NCAA history. Might be a maize craze in 2 weeks.

That’s a big FU to hockey fans who were DVR’ing it (not watching live) How can you put overtime on another channel?
these aren’t rooting interests of mine and I am kind of interested of seeing teams on “ring day” but this wasn’t the right way to do it.Should have had entire game on the U perhaps.

The second game was mostly a dud. Glad it was a blowout so I could leave early especially after the late start in game 2. The best part of the Frozen Four is seeing jerseys from pretty much every D1 hockey school.

That's cool. Never been to a F4 in person. Any throwback sweaters stand out?

Obviously the Fighting Sioux greens are a great look. Saw a Northern Michigan Wildcats one with a diagonal Wildcat wording. The old BC jerseys with just the eagle logo on the crest is another good one. Some old school Wisconsin and Miami jerseys I saw. It’s a who’s who of jerseys really. Some people I met had like a bingo card to see if they found the logo of a particular school which was pretty cool. Frozen Fours are pretty great. This was my 4th.

There was a ULowell Chiefs jersey circulating on the lower level during the second game. Also a red/yellow Ferris State jersey next section over from me, I'm not sure if that's an older look for them or not.

I have a late '90's/early '00's diagonal stripe Northeastern jersey that might be a bit of a throwback at this point.

I think if those teams played ten times, Minnesota State would likely win seven, but they weren't finishing their chances tonight and Denver was. (And the Pioneers were clinical in closing out the game. MSU didn't really sniff a comeback once they went down.)

I think you are really underrating Denver here. They would win more than 3 times against Minnesota State. That team is built with high end skill, disciplined and is built to play deep into the season with the rigors of playing in the NCHC every weekend.

I'm going by how thoroughly MSU had shut Denver down through two periods and how many good chances they had during that interval.

Maybe that wasn't representative, but it seemed to track with how they had played against Minnesota and previously in the tournament.

All of that having been said, on this night, Denver was able to keep MSU from turning their chances into goals, capitalized on their chances in the third, and MSU never even sniffed a comeback.

Boston College men’s hockey coach Jerry York announces retirement

View: https://twitter.com/BulletinBC/status/1514328864809529354

Legendary Boston College head coach Jerry York has called it a career, announcing his retirement after 50 years of coaching. Details:
"I have been thinking about the possibility of retiring during the past several weeks and it just seemed to me to be the right time to do so," said the 76 year old York in a press release. "I am so blessed to have been involved with Boston College these past 28 years and to have had the opportunity to coach so many wonderful student-athletes."
After coming to Boston College from Bowling Green, where he won a National Championship, the Massachusetts native returned to his alma mater where he helped the Eagles win national championships in 2001, 2008, 2010, and 2012. During his illustrious career, York led BC win nine Hockey East Tournament titles and 12 regular season championships during his 28 year reign in Chestnut Hill. He retired with a historical 1,123 wins, the most in college hockey history.

And Boston College has slipped in recent years. They haven’t made a Frozen Four since 2016.
