Not sure why anyone thinks they would cut Wade... sure they might but it seems unlikely.

He was a 5th round rookie last year, and one who missed a bunch of camp, then had some injury COVID issues. I wouldn't expect a guy like that to get cut right away, even less so because he makes even less than a normal 5th since BAL paid his bonus.

He'll get another year is my assumption, especially since we have so many open roster spots and he's so cheap.

That's probably the likeliest scenario, but it depends what else they do at CB. If they draft a couple guys, they might decide Wade is less interesting to work with moving forward. The investment is minimal.

I think he also sticks because there was speculation they (and BAL before the trade) thought he had some FS potential, and a longer term replacement for McCourty is a definite need.

FS is a definite need. Can Wade do it? I dunno. I get why people are intrigued because he had a big rep going into his junior year and he fits a lot of height / weight / speed buckets, but he got torched a lot in college, it's not clear where he fits (outside / slot / safety), he got drafted in the fifth round and traded before he took a snap, and he played 11 snaps all year. Maybe he wins a role, maybe he doesn't. If he doesn't, he's going to have to play special teams; if he can't do that either, he's not going to be long for the team. But they have almost nothing invested in him, and guys like that don't get a ton of chances to prove themselves.

Just spitballing, but I wonder what it would take to trade for Robert Woods. The Rams currently have Kupp, Robinson, Woods, and Van Jefferson under contract, and are reported to still be in the mix to bring OBJ back. Any of the three potential odd men out would significantly help in NE, and Woods may be the most appealing of all given his blocking ability and head start on Odell in terms of recovery timeline. Bill is obviously quite familiar with him from years of playing Buffalo.

With who is left out there, I’m coming to terms with standing pat until the draft as a fine option at WR. But if the $ are right I’m still intrigued by Julio and Beckham and Woods would be right there if the required draft capital is minimal.

Woods is a $16M cap hit and is coming off of an ACL injury, so I can't see it happening.

I would love Woods for the right price. He has a 3.5M roster bonus due today so if he gets traded it's probably today (or if we hear about an agreement to push the date).
I believe his cap hit for an acquiring team is around $7M. Would be nice for him the Patriots as his cap hit would go up when Agholor's clears

Edit-tomorrow for the bonus

Woods always seemed to me like the perfect Patriots type receiver. Not flashy, but plays everywhere and can be productive in a number of different ways.

I would love Robert Woods on the Patriots. I would be willing to part with a 4th or 5th rounder to get him if necessary. He is supposed to be ready for training camp and that would be really nice depth with Agholor/Bourne/Meyers as a unit — all be it of all number 2s/3 type WRs.

This is just us talking though, right? There’s been no actual buzz about a deal to acquire Woods?

Well considering that person doesn't know how the cap works (I was wrong up thread on his cap hit if traded, it's 13M but would likely be restructured to 9) because they think the acquiring team pays the same as the Rams, and they think Chark at $10M a year is comparable to Woods and they cite zero sources..... I would say that's garbage speculation by a staff writer.

Woods to NEP isn't rumored, but word is LAR are fielding calls on him so we are speculating about fit.

Yeah, I thought it was a poor article when I actually read it lol.

I've never been a big Woods guy, though.

The Patriots are more likely to acquire Ickey Woods.

I believe they are in full wait, see, hope, and draft mode. I don't think the Woods from LA is happening.

Based on the most recent ad I saw Ickey in he’d fit the offensive line need

Brown coming back is huge given the other departures on the line. Awesome to see that.

As far as Fournette, I’ve thought he’d be an awesome fit here for several years, but you really couldn’t find a more superfluous position for this team to bring in another player than RB.

Just speculating on Fournette here... but what if the Pats were to trade Harris for a mid-round pick? I could see the logic.

Not that I think it makes a ton of sense to bring him in just to kick the tires, but I suppose there could also be an element of doing due diligence on a player that makes an incredible amount of sense for Buffalo (Buf cap space not withstanding as I’m not sure what they have left).

My preferred plan would be to run Harris about 400 times this season.

BB always likes having four or five RBs around and with Bolden gone, White coming off an injury and Taylor not having played a ton I think there's definitely room for one more, especially if (like Fournette) they can have a role in the passing game.

No idea where Butler was in 2021, but in 2020, his numbers were:

127 targets, 80 completions (63.0%), 6.9 yds/target, 5 td, 4 int, 83.2 rating

You could do a LOT worse than that. Now, what happened in 2021? I can't even find anything on him.

As for Trent Brown, literally, a huge signing.

As much as I don't expect the $$ to work out, Fournette/Harris/Stevenson would be an absolutely ridiculous RB room before even accounting for the possibility that White and Montgomery both still have some in the tank. They'd be able to punish people out of the backfield for four straight quarters and outside of Harris there's some pretty special pass catching ability in that group. I can squint and see it as an alternative route to attacking the '1 skill player away' problem now that it doesn't look like pre-draft receiver help is coming.

I'm surprised Fournette would even have interest unless his market has really tanked. There have to be better opportunities for him and the money certainly wouldn't be substantial here.

Am I the only one rolling my eyes at the Judon stuff at this point? We get it, dude. You could always just text those guys.
It'd be much more amusing if these types of recruiting pitches worked. That being said, I don't hate it. He's just having some fun and I think a lot of the fan base gets a kick out of it

All in good fun to me. That said, as much as I like Judon's personality, character, etc., he needs to figure out a way to return to his first 2/3 of the season form. Dude was a ghost in December-January
