where I was last at
To the extent we are representative of Pats fans, IIRC, we had a poll shortly after TB12 bolted, where around 75-80% would root for Brady if there was no conflict of interest (ie a Pats-Buc SB).

Lots of records that will probably never be broken.

You could see it coming - never did make it 45 but the greatest ever to play. So thankful I was able to watch him from 2001 to present - a real gift as a patriots and football fan to witness greatness.

Good, I can start liking him again.

I imagine he would have retired last year if they hadn't won the SB, but wanted to give it one more go and take a couple final records (including beating BB).

If it's true. He will be missed.

Really makes it seem like winning a title without Belichick was the cherry on top that he was looking for. Can't really blame him, much as I truly thought he and Belichick would go out together as Pats.

Going to be really weird in an NFL without Tom Brady. It's been a long time since such a thing existed.

I definitely wanted one more year. But he went out at 44 leading the NFL in yards and TDs.

No regrets. He's the best professional sports player in history.

Definitely think Gisele pushed this more than ever but he had nothing left to prove.

When he walks down the street people will say “there goes the best there ever was”

If not for his defense blowing a coverage, he'd still be gunning for another ring. Will be very strange for him to not be in the league anymore.

Was clearly trending in this direction, the Wickersham prediction right before the playoffs being the huge red flag.

That sound you just heard is TB fading back into relative obscurity/mediocrity.

Side note something had to have happened with Arians this is so damn sudden and he is still
Playing so well
Arians was / is just a warm body to occupy his team during his final hurrah. I obviously don’t know what Brady was thinking but Arians was probably not Top 50 on considerations for retirement

Surprised he didn't give it one more year.

He always mentioned age 45, wanted to play as long he's at the top of his game, best man for the job, etc. Clearly he still is.

But good for him, I'll miss watching him in Sundays.

Why is it shocking to me a 44 year old is retiring from football? I mean it isn’t but it is.
It’s because when you watched him play, he didn’t look like a 44 year old out there. I get it.

I know that the relationship had likely gone it’s course and the timeline really didn’t matter anyway, but given how well he’s played, I wish Bill/Kraft had found a way to get the 2-year deal done. Even though it would have cost the Patriots Mac.

I don’t expect much in 2022 but hoping this means that in a year or two we may start seeing a lot more of him around New England.

It's not exactly going out on top when you lose in the divisional round, but who was the last QB to retire after putting together a season like he just did? He had the QB triple crown (led the league in completions, yards and TDs) and was the MVP frontrunner for most of the year. Just nuts.

Honestly? Good for her. She retired as well and there are worse situations that to have your supermodel wife and good kids want to spend more time with you. I’m happy for him.

Honestly I don’t buy this. I think he just wanted to keep playing and do things more his way.

Yup. All the other HOF QBs who retired in the last few years (Manning, Brees, Roethlisberger, Rivers) looked like the football was twice as heavy. Brady's arm looked as good as it's ever.

There will be a lot of well-deserved praise in the other threads, but what will this mean for the Bucs? What is the cap implications, if any, when someone retires? Is it the same as being cut?

I assume Gronk will retire again, this time for good.

I have to guess this puts them in the list of teams desperately seeking a QB.

Funny, I had the reverse reaction - I loved him as a football player and competitor but as just a person in the world he’s weird at best and a snake-oil salesman at worst.

So now that he’s (apparently) retired, I have zero interest in him. (Ironically, this is the exact opposite with regard to my feelings on the Manning brothers - despised them as football players, but can’t help liking them in their post-football lives.)

I can’t think of one.

Manning and Elway ‘went out on top’ in the sense their teams won the SB, but Elway missed a lot of time and was merely good and Peyton was pretty bad at the end, putting up one of the worst QB performances for a SB-winning team v. Carolina.

I'm glad he got out in one piece, didn't look like crap at the end (cough Manning cough), won't be on a self-serving retirement tour and I don't have to see him in another uniform, which sucked.

My kid was 3 when Brady first did his thing. He just had his 24th birthday—grew up, graduated college, got a job and moved away. So many life stages—and Brady was just fucking killing people the whole time. Amazing.
