There
If he stays healthy, that’s about $200-250k per inning pitched, or about the same as the Mets will pay Scherzer.

That’s not a knock on Iglesias — he’s one of the best relievers in the game. I just wonder if any pitcher is worth that much.
Yeah fair, and I don't disagree but that just seems to be the going rate, or even just below it, for elite closers these days. Hendriks is on 3/54 currently, Jansen I think just finished a 5/80 deal which paid him 20mm in 2021, Aroldis Chapman will make 18mm next year in the final year of a 3/48.

Yeah, I am on the fence on whether I would have been happy with the Sox making that deal but I really don't get it for a Cubs team that doesn't seem close to contention.

Stroman, Hendricks, Miley is a solid start to a rotation. The Cubs don’t have a ton of payroll committed, aren’t they a likely candidate to sign a few of the remaining big ticket free agents to start a quick rebuild?

If you believe the advanced stats, the Cardinals and Reds were basically average, and while the Brewers were above average, they were very lucky to win 95.

So if the Cubs are willing to open the checkbook, and if they think they will get some internal improvements next season (which almost every team thinks, even if I don’t see it in the Cubs’ case), they would only need a little luck to contend for a division title next season.

Maybe they was some specific provision that one or both sides wanted a CBA ruling on before they made it official?

I don't know if I'd call it weird, but a tad surprising. A 34-year-old free agent 3B probably doesn't garner a lot of suitors for full time work. The lockout is just prolonging the process. For a guy who played 11 years for the same club, and made $100M in the process, I can't really blame him for not wanting to go into the journeyman phase of his career not even knowing where it's going to start.

It's weird that his wife announced it, but I think there was talk before the season ended that he was strongly considering retirement.

Retires with generational money before any major injuries. Can start a new chapter in whatever he wants (business, coaching, nft making, whatever) at a young age where he can , if he wants, create a second career. Or just travel the world or go to all his kids games or whatever. Im jealous of the guy honestly.

The Orioles are modifying Camden Yards outfield dimensions. Left field will be moved back up to 30' and a 5' higher:

The club told The Baltimore Sun it began construction this week to alter Oriole Park at Camden Yards’ left-field dimensions to try to reduce the stadium’s propensity for home runs. The changes — the first to the size of the iconic ballpark’s playing area in two decades — will raise the wall’s height from 7 feet to about 12 feet and move it back as much as 30 feet, according to information provided by the team. Major League Baseball approved the adjustments, which will cover the area from the left-field corner to the bullpens in the left-center field.

Bummer that they're raising the height of the walls. Frequency of robbed home runs are part of the fun of Camden Yards.

It looks like we may have an idea where the lock out stands tomorrow when the owners give their proposal.

hopefully good news?

It's team announcer jersey retirement day. Twins and Mets retire Kaat/K Hernandez jersey numbers, respectively.

In a corresponding move, the right field wall at The Bidet is being moved in 10 feet ... thus eliminating the need for a right fielder
Isn’t that going to lead to a lot more force outs at first when runners have to climb over that fence to reach the bag?

Well, that's certainly...quirky.

With the bullpens remaining intact, it's like the reverse of the Crawford boxes in Houston.

So stupid of the Orioles. If they ever make the playoffs again, I bet an outfielder misplays a sidewall hit into an inside-the-park homer.

Bizarro Fenway alteration. If Fenway's bullpen additions were called "Williamsburg", will this change be "Harvey-burg"?

It's too bad Cedric Mullins is a left-handed pull hitter. Heck, even so, I'd make him the odds on favorite to lead the league in triples next season.

It’s a decent name, better than some of the other MiLB team names involving a place + animal like RiverRats or such.

This also reminds me that Steve Miller references his own songs in his other songs. JA quoting the space cowboy line from The Joker and Lose quoting the actual Space Cowboy song.
