Tournament of Champions gets underway this afternoon at Kapalua.

Reminder: PGA Tour Live is now under the ESPN+ umbrella. So if you have an ESPN+ subscription you now have PGA Tour Live. They are covering the ToC and Sony next weekm, which is new.

I was on Maui in October and drove through Kapalua. I didn't play it (something I'll likely regret) but it's a beautiful location, as with just about everything on Maui. Looking forward to kicking the season off.

I played Kapalua [more than a few] years ago when the Navy ship I was on and another in company anchored off Kahalui and taxied the crew in for a few days of a sun-and-fun port visit. Great course. I think I shot a 96. The CO of the other ship sent a note over to us asking if anyone had a set of clubs he could borrow, which I gladly supplied. He had his boat crew return them the next day with a note: "You need to get these clubs fixed. They don't hit nearly as straight or as along as I do." I laughed. He sent a sleeve of balls and a towel as a thank you. Good times. Fond memories.

I got cold feet because it's like $500 for greens fee and club rentals. Plus I was recovering from an August eye surgery and tracking the ball on long shots was an issue so I would've needed a caddie or harrass my playing partners. My wife encouraged me to pull the trigger but I bailed. Like I said, I'll probably regret it, who knows if I'll ever be back on the island.

Love the course. One of the most expensive rounds ever for me -- due to greens fees for wife, daughter and son (13 and 9 at the time), plus club rentals. A necessary price to knock it off the bucket list. Hope to play it again someday with the family, all of whom still golf, with the now 16 year old boy turning into a pretty good player.

Also love watching this in primetime the next few days. With the warm weather and beautiful views of islands, water and sea fauna, it's a nice and necessary salve to the New England winter wounds.

I went last November when I was on my honeymoon because fuck it, money doesn't matter. Was a great course but so damn windy. Didn't get to have a full experience though as Covid was up and running with no snack bar, bar, or much out anything open outside the pro shop.

I am pretty excited for this coming to ESPN+. As a cord cutter (for better or for worse) it's been hard to follow golf for the last couple seasons, and I miss it quite a bit. The only reason I had ESPN+ was for the NHL, so this helps make it even more worthwhile. Looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

Yes, your story does not remind me exactly of the Caine Mutiny’s crew!

For some reason I didn't think this tournament was on ESPN+, so I didn't follow yesterday, but I'll definitely be following the rest of the weekend and maybe go to the local simulator that has this course tonight.

This season I entered into a golf pool that starts next week and ends before the FedEx playoffs. You can choose a golfer only once during that time, and your golfer gets points based on the prize money they win in tournaments. Right now I have Spieth penciled in for The Masters, Koepka for the US Open, Rahm and Morikawa will be my other two major picks but haven't decided on which one for which major, Max Homa or Dustin Johnson for the Genesis Invitational, Bryson DeChambeau for the Arnold Palmer, and Patrick Cantlay for the Memorial. Do those sound solid to everyone? Any other suggestions for players at particular tournaments?

Rahm was -12 for the day yesterday, including a 2 shot lost ball penalty where he birdied his second ball for bogey . Tied with Cameron Smith at -26 after 3 rounds. Justin Thomas also -12 yest, Matt Jones -10, Smith -9. The course is way to easy for these guys, and even easier this year because the wind isn't blowing.

They’re shredding this course. It’s a beautiful setting but it’s not really interesting watching the field shoot -20 on a course with unmissable fairways and massive greens.

I love it for this tourney. It’s January golf in Hawaii, let them show off in a glorified all star game.

The soft course and no wind contributes as well.

I sense that everyone seems to think that every tour event needs to be super challenging. But hey, everyone is playing the same course, so who cares? It's all relative.

This is an early season event where the pros get to unwind, enjoy the sun and views of surfers in the distant.

And we as viewers get to enjoy in absentia. What's not to love?

Man. That sucks. Always enjoyed his work.

Also genuinely had no idea he graduated from URI.
I had known that just because URI has started to make a big deal out of it since the scholarship was introduced. Here's a longer article/tribute from a recent URI magazine, written by a 2002 graduate of URI that also covers golf. It includes information about how to donate to the scholarship.

Today's the first go around with the new PGA Tour Live setup at ESPN+. There are 4 feeds:

1. Main Feed- Essentially a regular broadcast
2. Marquee Group- Follows one group during the pre-TV coverage window. Today it is Wolff/Woodland.
3. Featured Group- This feed comes on once the TV coverage starts and follows two groups exclusively. Today is Jimmy Walker/Patton Kizzire and CH3/Gooch
4. Featured Holes

So featured group and marquee group are essentially the same thing, but the marquee group is exclusive in the pre-TV window. The featured groups come on when the TV window opens (hence the pretty lousy "featured" groups).

The lousy "featured groups" have more to do with the tournament set up. They're only using featured groups on the PGA West course. It's a pretty weak set of groups playing that course today. The featured groups will be better later in the week when the big guns at the tournament (Rahm, Finau, Cantlay, Scheffler etc.) play the PGA West course. This won't be an issue most weeks as outside of this week, Torrey, and Pebble are all played on 1 course.

Anyone ever see Hudson Swafford and Harris English in the same room?
Haha, yeah I've always gotten them confused. Nice win for Swafford yesterday, wrapping it up with an eagle on 16.

Wedneday-Saturday tournament this week at Torrey.

Did Bryson ditch the stupid hat?
2nd event without the stupid hat. It looks like it's gone for good. To be honest, he a little less hateable without it. Also, Reed is apaprently a PXG guy now.

Excellent field, as always, at the Farmers.

Probably never because human nature. For instance, I personally want to live in a world where I can judge Antonio Brown for dying his mustache blond.

Jammed leaderboard. Should be a great finish. Will Z has the lead at -14 but there are 8 guys a shot back.

Having the final round on late afternoon on a Saturday in a blizzard is pretty awesome.

Anyone know what channel this is on in Boston? It flipped off Golf Channel to network TV but network TV is doing non-stop storm coverage.

Desperate drinkers at Corner Pub of Chinatown want to know.

No idea. I had the same problem but pulled it up by streaming at cbssports.com
