Knicks 5-1 early on (against a very easy schedule) after finishing last year's regular season 16-4, Thibs certainly has them competing pretty much every night. Fournier and Kemba replacing Bullock and Payton leads to a stat like this:

NY is very deep when healthy, Nerlens Noel has yet to play and he was one of their key guys down the stretch last year. They will have some minutes issues if everyone is healthy (Quickley is already having trouble finding a role as one of three shoot-first guards off the bench, along with Rose and Burks) but that's a nice problem to potentially have.

Yeah, the PA guy and Mike Breen both said it once that I heard, then the Knicks got their asses kicked for the rest of the game.

“The starting five, playing together, stand at minus-76 for the season and their defensive rating of 119 points per 100 possession is not only worst in the league, but also the worst rating for a five-man unit in NBA history. “

So you're saying the Walker/Fournier additions may not have improved the defense? Shocker.
Replacing two plus defenders in Elfrid and Bullock with these two turnstiles may have been the most impactful downgrade on one end of the floor that we’ve seen from any non-tanking NBA team in some time. You could probably make a case for ever.

Heh, Kemba had a season high 26 points on Friday and still managed to be -23 in 31 minutes.

NY at 9-7 in the 5th spot in the East after pulling out a terrible game against the league-worst Rockets. They start a brutal schedule stretch tonight, and I’m predicting their horrid defense, oft-injured big men and offense consisting of a slew of one-on-one players seemingly incapable of creating space for their teammates, plus the very deep Eastern Conference, will end up with them in the lottery again.

That's super sad. Everyone likes Kemba. But there are some absolutely horrid stats in this article - https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/knicks-removing-kemba-walker-from-rotation-a-hard-pill-to-swallow-but-the-right-move-for-new-york/. I guess Kemba can't move anymore.

Time remains undefeated.
Time is especially cruel to 6-foot and under guards as the effort they have exerted their entire careers destroys the lower body joints much sooner than bigs, wings and bigger guards. Unless you’re Chris Paul in which case you keep improving until you’re 40 apparently.

He's hunted on defense and has a hard time getting to the rim, especially late in games. It's hard to play him in the 4th qtr. Nice guy but I'm glad he's a NY problem.

Aren’t a lot of his minutes paired with Fournier too? That’s can’t help.

Taking four months off and try to come back as a 20 mpg spark off the bench down the stretch and into the playoffs is something people here suggested at the beginning of at least last season and may be the last way Kemba salvages his physical condition.

The reason this isn’t likely to work is the same reason it didn’t for IT. When you’re undersized you are relying more on your quickness. When you are aging and cannot train appropriately to maintain your conditioning/quickness the theoretical example doesn’t work in reality.

Little guys that lose their quickness don't go from All-Stars to good players...they quickly become unplayable

Need to pay up for bigger, younger ballhandlers (Murray, Halliburton, SGA, missed out on the Lonz)

where do you stand on dealing Brown, now?

I’m all for dealing him for the right player. I don’t feel he and Tatum bring out the best in each other and that’s what you need from your top two players. They are redundant in so many ways. Spurs for my binky Dejounte and KJ?

Also NY’s entire non-center roster is scorers who create for themselves and are dubious defenders and distributors, they don’t need another if the rest of the roster is healthy.

This is not a Celtics thread, there are many other threads here to talk about that, thanks.

With the league closely watching the Lakers/Russ disintegrate, the PDX yard sale, Simmons/Morey/Harden drama... the Knicks are quietly imploding. The magic carpet ride of last season is over, Randle got fat numerous ways, and THIBs year 2 has taken hold.

Quickley playing less recently. What is the cost to extract him from the other 5 PGs on that roster?

Imagine they will want to keep their better, younger players. BUT it's the Knicks and they probably still see themselves as buyers/a playoff team.

Thibs had RJ Barrett (arguably their only player worth a damn) on the floor with 18 seconds left and the Knicks down 17. He had played 35 minutes on a road B2B in Denver, after playing 43 minutes the previous night in Utah, and 50 minutes the previous game in LA. That’s 128 minutes in four nights with two plane flights.

And … Barrett proceeded to sprain his ankle and limped off. Knickstown!

Hilarious, I'm here for it all.

THIBz heading for the exit after this season

good stuff, keep posting Obi's highlights, nothing says NY Knicks more than emphatic slam dunks down 20

Why are you trolling another team's thread?
Was originally asking about Quickley, since his minutes have recently declined?

or the Knicks Plan as they implode?

Have liked the NY Knicks young Guards since they were drafted (Grimes also)

the thread hadn't been used for months, wasn't really trolling

Yeah, you did. That post was fine. And after that, you trolled.

I'm not going to debate it with you, but I'll add this: Pats and Celtics fans get justifiably upset when fans from other teams come into Pats/Celtics focused threads and troll or shitpost like that. I see the reports when it happens. It shouldn't happen there or in any of these team threads.

The Knicks are too depressing to talk about, they continue to be the single worst defensive NBA team I’ve ever watched much of. No present and minimal future, go NY, go NY, go.

@benhogan isn’t a troll. There isn’t a topic in the Port Cellar he hasn’t been involved in for year and has posted in this one previously last season. If only fans of a particular non-Celtics team posted in these threads there would be no discussion, back and forth, jokes, puns or whatever.

Apologies. I'm genuinely interested in the Knicks PGs and have been for a while, the other stuff was just meant in jest.

I'll exit the Obi thread, at least we got the interest of a Dayton fan, so it wasn't a complete loss.

I watch just about every NYK game, but only the minutes that Obi Toppin plays. Here is how a fellow UD Flyer/Obi fan described our situation:

Is being an Obi only Knicks fan what it’s like to be a parent of a youth athlete? You think your kid is better than everyone else and he doesn’t get enough playing time and the coach hates him?

Heh, I love Obi, but his rookie season he looked as lost as I have ever seen a NBA player, a dominant athlete who looked like he had never seen the sport played before. He started figuring it out late last year and clearly deserved more minutes down the stretch and in their playoff series, but mediocre at best coach Thibs did not concur.

This year he seems more confident and even his misfires are more fun to watch that most people’s makes but I would not be surprised if he has more airballs than makes from 3 point range. Until he develops some kind of shooting range (even a mid-range shot), it’s hard to justify playing him too much, sadly for all.

That was a quality win last night. Winning on Curry's court with Thompson also playing is never easy. Big game from Randle. When he's on, this team just looks completely different. Bench was really impressive.
