Jesus.... I knew he was sick, but he'd come back so, so many times. I'm really glad he got that last ride at the wild cared game.

This is really sad.

Awful. He was the voice of my college years and 20s when I was watching every game, and incredibly kind when I met him in person. Shit.

Remy may be the single person I've heard speaking more than anyone outside my family. That's going to leave a hole in all our lives.

So sad. Too early and the guy fought like the tough SOB he was.

For the last 30 years, any time I turned a Sox game on and didn't hear his voice, it took a few minutes to adjust and let the disappointment go. Going to take a while to adjust now. RIP.

Awfully sad news on this Sunday morning. I noticed last night during the Stand Up for Cancer moment of silence that somebody in front of a dugout was holding up a placard with the name Jerry Remy on it. Anybody else catch that? It made me wonder about his status. Now I wonder what that placard holder might have known at 10 pm last night. It will not be the same going forward. In my pantheon, Jerry’s up there with Ned Martin, Fred Cusick and Johnny Pierson - all of whom I imprinted on as a young listener. RIP.

Between here and everywhere.
Man. Jerry will always be the first voice I hear in my head when I think about some of my favorite Red Sox memories.

I hope he can now Rest In Peace.

It felt really ominous with how much the team and the broadcasts were highlighting the Jerry Remy Fight Club shirts. That level of support seemed to be absent other than his first bout, which made this fight seem like it wasn't going to end well. And it didn't.

Sox broadcasts aren't going to be the same. At least Remdawg is now at peace and no longer in pain.

Fuck, just awful news. Almost took it for granted he would bounce back every time from these bouts. The voice of the Red Sox during the greatest era of the franchise. He will be greatly missed. RIP.

one thing that should be done for Opening Day is put those shirts on every seat and ask fans to wear them. If only the weather could cooperate

Terrible. He’ll live forever in the memories of anyone that was around to see and hear the 2004 World Series and the other successful runs in the recent past.

Wiscansin, by way of Attleboro
When he came out in the golf cart for the WC first pitch, my mind couldn't help but go to Williams' and his ride out at the '99 all star game.

I was as guilty as anyone for bristling at the silliness Remy and Orsillo would get into. As soon as the pairing was broken up and that kind of rapport gone, I instantly regretted my lamenting. That was a great pairing. And sometimes that silliness turned out to be gold (pizza toss, boob grab...).

Remy will always be the TV voice of the Sox for as long as I live. Thankful for all he gave to the organization and, by extension, all of us. For someone like me who was far too young to watch him play, his impact on my appreciation of the game was profound.

As said upthread, buenos noches, amigo.

I'm going to remember Remy as a guy who rose to the occasion in the 78 playoff game -- 2 for 4, with a ripped line drive ninth inning single off Gossage that kept them alive for Rice and Yaz, moving the tying run, Burleson, into scoring position. Also, a key double in the 8th and then scoring to get them back in the game.

You could not have really asked for anything more in one of the single most stressful and intense couple innings in Red Sox history.

Also a nice play in the field earlier in the game.

Was wondering when this thread would sadly need to be started. I agree that the more recent commentary from his colleagues had taken an ominous turn.

I was one of those very much in favor of the team acquiring Remy in 1978, as I hated Denny Doyle at second base. He brought a much needed speed dimension to the team. His heroics in the infamous 1978 playoff game against the Yankees should not be ignored; had he not been robbed of a hit by Lou Piniella, the game would have been tied in the bottom of the 9th. A knee injury in 1979 caused by an awkward slide into home plate robbed him of his base stealing ability and would nag him for the rest of his career.

where I was last at
To any and all of Jerry's family or friends who may frequent this forum, I extend my condolences for your loss.

Jerry impacted many of us in positive ways as both a hustling and very talented player and in his latter years an entertaining and informative TV analyst.

And we prayed for Jerry's relief from this terrible disease.

RIP Jerry

It's a very small deal in the whole scheme of things, but I am happy he got to be a huge part of the Golden Age of Red Sox baseball.
That isn't a small deal at all. I think that gave him an incredible amount of happiness over the past couple decades, including during all his cancer battles.
