Fred: “I don’t think Bill has the ability to evaluate talent anymore.”

Well that’s certainly a take.

The segment with Brandon Meriweather today was outstanding. I couldn't stop laughing during the Whizzinator portion at the end.

A great recovery from the segment before where Rich pulls his "You can't tell me I'm wrong! I win!" argument style. I'm shocked Fred doesn't jump over the table and hit him when he's like that. So annoying when Rich's argument is flawed and he thinks he's smarter than everyone and declares he "wins"

I almost never listen to this or any other sports talk, but I checked for a minute on the ride to work, and, as I had hoped, they were skewering John Sterling. When Fred (I think) said, "youre my eyes, man. you can't do that. you have to quit," they all started riffing on scenarios in which Sterling was leading around a blind man (being his eyes). It was pretty funny.

Yes he was. "Can you send someone down here to tell them to stop?" "No"
You could just hear in his voice how over those calls he is. That’s what so many of those people need is to hear the word “no” every once in a while. They’re so empowered by the thrill of telling on someone that they start calling for every little inconvenience. If more people had the stones that that dispatcher has, there’d be fewer of these people

That’s a bummer man. I do remember him; Superfan Dijit from Southboro (if I’m remembering where he was from correctly). I remember hearing his name on a lot of emails to the show in the early days. Rest In Peace sir!

Listening to Meriweather steaming is a delight . He was talking about the Sean Taylor stuff and one of the guys asked a question if he had a teammate like Mahomes' brother and he said "I would've slapped the shit out of him"

....and repeated that 20 seconds later

I wonder what stations they’ll be on. Would be convenient to have an over-the-air option when I’m out and about and my cell service is too spotty to stream in the car.

Also, a couple days ago T&R were discussing if “Pudge” was on Carlton Fisk’s Hall of Fame plaque, which meandered into Fred saying that Schilling’s HoF plaque would just be “a Hitler meme”. I haven’t laughed that loud in months.

Did they say where Fred's at today?
I usually listen to the podcast version of the show, and they opened the show by saying he's out. Nothing other than that. Rich is out tomorrow, so I'm guessing it's planned to stagger having at least one on.

this whistling thing is amazing
VERY compelling. Mike Lockhart did a hell of a job pulling raw audio footage of it. Maybe the Red Sox should start pulling every tape and angle they can from Fenway and see if they can find this whistle man.

Fred was talking all week about how he was going to the Pats/Jets game with his kid, he was going to tailgate before, he had a personal driver etc.

He just posted on his IG a pic of his son in the car captioned "and so much for the jets game"

He posted it at 2:48 so he literally left at half time. I can see leaving after the 3rd and have no interest in traffic but half time? I get the Jets aren’t winning and Wilson is hurt but still. Beautiful fall day, first row of the end zone just enjoy a game.

it may be the no alcohol thing. If you're used to getting hammered at a game, and you can't, your team is getting smoked....etc

If that’s the case I 100% support it and he needed to get out of there. Taking your kid who’s a Jets fan and leaving at half time is not great.

Maybe his kid didn’t want to stay either. It was pretty clear what direction the game was headed at that point
I’m not going to say anything about anyones kid. If he wanted to go home because then Jets weren’t going to win or even be competitive he’s got a long fandom ahead of him.

I’m pretty sure he was comped the tickets so why subject yourself to a blowout… sober… surrounded by Massholes… with an endless traffic jam if you stay until the end of the game? I’m sure he and Milo “got their moneys worth”.

FWIW this week he said sitting in traffic doesn't bother him when he's not driving

Sounds like Milo was ready to go about half way through the 2nd. I 100% would not stay to the end of the game and sit in traffic, done that way too many times.

In my opinion, NFL games are also the least enjoyable to attend in person relative to the other three major sports. It's nice to see plays develop in real time and shit like that, but there's way too much stoppage.

100% and I say this as someone who went a ton of games in the last 20 years. It's even worse when it's a national game.

He said this morning he left at halftime because of the score but also because there was no point to watching the 2nd half because Zach Wilson was hurt. He said if Wilson was still in the game he probably would've stayed around. Sounded like his kid wanted to leave too as he said the most excited he got was for the fantasy points Corey Davis scored for him.

It sounded like Fred hates going to NFL games, which he has said for years, so he went to another, the game wasn't compelling and left. Every time he goes to a game he leaves and says that it sucked. Not sure why he even goes unless his kid is asking him to go and being a good dad. The NFL product of in game experience has gotten worse every year. I used to go to 4-8 games a year and less so after having a kid, it starts to wear on you. I didn't think it was as bad as he did as a once every 3-4 years thing.

Yeah I loved going to games, but the expense and time spent is a lot. The home viewing option is so much more convenient with RZ and now I have Fubo so I can have up to 4 channels on at the same time. It’s the perfect viewing experience.

It is the general Boston Sports Radio position to never let players, coaches, or fans enjoy any single triumph. Ever. There's always something wrong with winning in Boston.

Independent of this we all know (sadly that) Fred is just a miserable person so there shouldn't be anything surprising about this.

This. It’s so ingrained in Boston media. Huge victories and oftentimes you’ll turn on postgame shows and all they are talking about is “why didn’t they win bigger?” Or “why was it so close”. It’s weird.

Complaining about players on a team with a losing record having too much fun on the sidelines while blowing out a trash opponent is the most predictable Boston sports radio take imaginable.

The Boston sports media are figure skating judges. "Yeah they won, but was it pretty enough? I say no!" "Yeah they won, but was the team gracious in victory? I say no!" "Yeah they won, but do they deserve it? Was the competition stout enough? I say no!" and each pronouncement is suffixed with "Prove me wrong!"

It's all bullshit.

Eh, Fred's take was a classic radio time killer. His focus was that Pats teams of yore wouldn't act that way, because BB wouldn't stand for it. Now he's cracking celebreatory beers with his bros in the stadium after the win. And he specifically brought it up when they were on with Ted Johnson (who never misses a chance to talk about how perfect his Pats era teams were in every way). I didn't get any Felger-esque vibe from it.

Unrelated, I typically listen to T&R from 7:30 to 10. Most days I let the stream run into the beginning of Zo & Bertrand. That show is not good. It's not funny, it's not enlightening, and worst of all, it's pretty damn boring. I rarely make it more than 20 minutes before I switch to a podcast. For as awful as Felger & Mazz may be, at least their schtick is compelling. Zo & Beedle is like audio wallpaper.

Holy crap, they're getting phone calls from another station trying to win Disney tickets and started playing Name That Fart with the callers. I was in tears when Fred said, "Sorry, that was Sir John Gielgud".

How many times are they going to beat a dead horse with this bit? It’s starting to be like the drunken Red Sox recap.
