Terrestrial radio doesn't make as much any more. They are one market darlings. I'm sure they have endorsements etc. but people comparing D&C grandfathered-in salaries from 10 years ago don't realize the haircut terrestrial radio has taken in the face of podcasting, satellite radio and other alternative forms of entertainment via smart phones. They do extremely well I'm sure, but I just don't know if a one market fm drive-time show still means what it used to.

Can't really overlook the TV side of this. While they're a one-market radio show, they're a regional TV show. Granted, it's NBC Sports Boston, but their salary probably gets a bump up as a result. Maybe still not D&C/Ordway in the 00s money, but better than many of their sports radio peers.

True, I did not factor that in because I am not 870 years old and never watch that channel. /sarcasm

Good point, I spaced on that.

Yeah, that definitely is a big, big point in their favor, right? I hadn't thought of that.

He got out of the newspaper business. Very smart move. He would have been bought out years ago.

Guessing a four hour show equals around three hours of actual on air time, x 5 days a week = 15ish hours, plus an hour (again minus ads) extra for the five days when the baseball show is on (seasonal). So his workweek is about 15 to 20 hours a week depending on the time of year. Though I guess it's also implied that he has to watch every sporting event, which many people do anyways for free.
It should be noted that Mazz has often in the past admitted to not actually watching the games he comments on. I'm sure he watches big ones, like Patriots games or playoff games, but does he watch that much regular season Red Sox, Celtics or Bruins games? Wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't. He likely spends less than a half hour a day preparing for the show, much of it probably asking Felger what his orders are.

He was smart to get out of the dying newspaper business when he did, or maybe I should say lucky as my recollection is he wasn't the first choice to team up with Felger, I believe it was Lou Merloni and they went with Mazz after he signed with WEEI instead. As much as I despise Felger's insanely trollish and clearly fake sports takes, he clearly carries the program and has built himself quite the empire, with so much of the local media market these days trying to copy him. Mazz is a guy who was in the right place at the right time and has lost most of the talent he had when he was a quality reporter back in the day.

Jim Murray is the absolute worst. What an a-hole. It took a little while, but he‘s effectively made this show unlistenable for me.

Yeah it's the part where they paid him as one of the highest paid tight ends in the game
i appove of what NE done in FA my only 2nd guess wouild be
1 souild had traded for teddy b in march
2 tradeing gilmore at the draft for a 2nd
3 signed fuller instead of millis
4 signed C Leno Jr intstead of t brown

those moves would had saved about 25 mil and make NE the 2nd or 3rd best team in theAFC

Less than 5 minutes in:

Mazz: This thing on Sunday was a joke. If they look like this at the end of the season and this is a 5-12 or 6-11 football team, Bill Belichick has to go.

If they are 5-12 or 6-11 then yeah they probably have to start evaluating the long-term future of the organization. It's not a crazy thing to say.
Well they possibly need one of those seasons maybe this year to get a high pick to restock both lines. I mean hell part of the reason they had the title win in 2001 was getting two horses on each side of the line with Seymour at 6 and Matt Light at 48.

I agree, it's not crazy at all.

Wins vs the Jets, Jaguars, Falcons, Colts, Texans.
Losses to Tampa, Dallas, Carolina, Tennessee, Bills by 2, Dolphins, Cleveland, Los Angeles.

6-11.

It might be the best thing for them long term, they need help on the offensive and defensive lines.

A lot of help.

I agree with this. They literally need to rebuild both lines ASAP. Essentially need to find their next Seymour and Light in this next draft. Build it from the trenches out and you clearly need high picks for that.

Any idea how the free agents they brought in from the Dolphins and Jets are doing on the defensive line? Or Guy or Wise? Or the kid from Alabama that draft pundits claimed was a steal in the second round?

I think Barmore has been fine but kind of think the rest of the line stinks. Guy may be on the back 9. They clearly overpaid Wise and the Jets/Dolphins guys seem like JAGS to me. I really just hope they invest heavily in the draft on both lines. Essentially the first dynasty they hit on 3 DL in 4 years in the first round. Seymour (01), Warren (03) and Wilfork (04). I wish they could do that again.

Given how absurd they already were last week over Brady, my goal is to make it through the week not listening to a second of the program. I've made it through Monday and Tuesday so far.

Brady week plus Wickersham. These two can't wait to hit the airwaves.
My God, after the leaks from that book came out today, can you imagine that show today.....................some of what was leaked is............not good.

And to clarify, I mean not good as far as ammo for these two bozos, which is all well and good, but still, it's going to be a shitshow.

Guy in Boston:

”Hey, how ya doing, Mike? Listen, stop sugarcoating Bill Belichick. He’s a prick and an a-hole. Thank you.”

At least the callers are entertaining.

The chryon on NBC Sports Boston: Was Game 3 a “fake win” for the Red Sox?
Shocking.

If you like baseball and listen to F&M, you're never going to get what you want. Never. Never ever ever ever ever. They shit on the Sox (which makes sense since neither TSH or NBCSports has Red Sox games) more than any other news outlet in the region. And they say it's because they're the fair ones, since John Henry owns the Globe and NESN.

Yeah but they actively tell their audience they have been defrauded by Henry and not to tune into Red Sox games. It happens all the time. That is a line they don't cross with other teams.

Murray has not tweeted one thing about the Sox in the past 5 days or. Strange

Adam Jones is basically calling everybody bandwagon/pink sox fans now. Haha, these are guys are absolutely miserable that the Sox are moving on.
