And ... so much for the Jays. Getting kicked around by the Orioles.

Edit: No one wants this. A’s choke it away to Rangers.

Have to say there's definitely potential for some serious AL WC chaos.

Corbin Burnes has 9 strikeouts through 4 innings. I suppose this could also go in the "pssst" thread, but doing that against Cleveland isn't really noteworthy anymore.

There are 11 teams at least 10 games over .500, 8 in the AL and 3 in the NL.

The Orioles team ERA for the season currently stands at 5.98. They're 143 games into the season and have managed to increase the team ERA by 24 points in a span of 7 innings.

My point was more that ten teams make the postseason and eight of the best eleven records are in one league.
Totally, I get it. The top four though, are so much better than the others.

SF +42
LA +37
TB +36
MIL +33

Then you’ve got 7 AL teams in a row, from HOU +23 to OAK +12, before you get to the next NL team, ATL +9.

The difference between the third and fourth best teams in the NL is 12 games, in the AL it’s one.

Blake Snell exited after 11 pitches today. Sounds like a leg injury. The race for the NL's second wild card continues to get uglier but closer. The Reds blew a 4-run lead last night to the Cards and then got shut out today. If the Padres get swept by the Dodgers, they'll remain tied with the Reds while the Cards sit one game behind them. The Phils didn't help themselves today and remain two games behind the Reds.

I was looking at Scherzer’s stats today and he’s a HOF lock, but it’s kind of crazy how he has “only” 188 wins. 200 wins seems like 300 used to be. Only two active (and one of them has been on the DL all year) pitchers with 200 and only three others who seem to be near to get there

Verlander 226
Greinke 219
Lester 198
Scherzer 188
Kershaw 184

After this group…who else can get to 200?

Cole 115
Sale 112

The winningest pitchers who are under 30…

Aaron Nola 65
Michael Wacha 63 (doesn’t it seem like he should be 35?)
Carlos Martinez 62
Ed-Rod 62
Robbie Ray 60

The way the league is going, a great career for a SP may be like 150-160 wins in the not too distant future.

Yeah- Wainwright was next on the list and you are right, he could conceivably get to 200.

This is kind of crazy too….only two pitchers 27 or younger have more than 50 wins.

Wainwright actually seems like a guy who has an outside shot at the HOF. 182-105 career record, 3.35 ERA, 119 era+, 2k K’s. 4 time top 5 CYA, 2.89 era in 100+ post-season innings, 4 postseason wins, 4 saves, 1 WS ring.

I assume Cohen will fire everyone as soon as the season is over.
I moved that post to the Yankees game thread but I have to agree. They are a 500 team, all the thumbs down nonsense and Lindor shouting down the Yankees after a mid game homer shows a total lack of discipline and reflects really poorly on Rojas.

(of course the third homer after all that was pretty cool).

I don't even see why the thumbs down thing is an issue. Yankees were doing thjs 4 years ago and people were laughing about it. Now the Mets do it and it's disrespectful

The difference is that the Yankees were doing it based on one opposing fan giving Todd Frazier a thumbs down after a home run. The Mets were giving the thumbs down to their own fans.

But if they're using it as motivation to play better, I don't see why people are getting upset about it

Not like they're flipping off their fans (although, I guess they kind of are)

No matter how badly the Yankees are slumping, they can still overcome a 5-run deficit against the Twins.

Football has some lopsided matchups, but I cannot really think of another matchup in the big four sports that is as consistently as significant as the Yankees' dominance over the Twins. It really is crazy how dominant they are.

Rays getting stomped out by the Jays. 6-0 in the 6th. Mchugh did fine for a couple shutout innings as the opener but they immediately jumped all over Yarbrough. You can't come at the Jays with his garbage.

I liked it.

The way the Jays are going, if they have any more at bats,, the score is going to change.
Rays are kind of punting this one a bit. They put a garbage lineup out there behind Yarbrough and especially now they'll just feed the mop-up guys to the wolves, but still the Jays are frightening and the Rays bullpen is swooning, so wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the series is ugly, too.

Agreed. No matter how good the two teams are, it is always a bloodbath in favor of the Yankees. It's to the point where if the Twins are up 8-0 in the 9th, I still am convinced that NY will find a way to win. It's frigging ridiculous.

I was watching the Twins broadcast today, and it was genuinely funny how the announcers seemed resigned to their fate.

Cardinals lead the Mets 3-0 in the 8th. 6 shutout innings from Wainwright.

Giants lead the Padres 5-0 in the 2nd. If these scores hold, the Cardinals will pull even with the Padres and 1/2 game behind the Reds with the Reds having played 1 more game than the Cardinals and Padres.

Tampa doesn't look like a team that would blow an 8 game lead but AL East teams are very streaky. It's going to be an interesting last 3 weeks.
