Thanks. If Truspec says 12 weeks, I'll look around. I want to give them the first crack at it since they are the ones who recommended the clubs and it will spare me further trips to shops to have things finished up. Callaway seems to sell direct through their website. I suspect that they have as good an inventory as anyone.

From what I understand things can be delay either for a grip they don't have, or sometimes they don't even have the heads. A buddy was quoted 6 weeks, he called the manufacturer after two, they told him they're waiting on the specific grip, he told them to just put any grip on and he had them a few days after

I always ask for the grips to just be in the box and pick the cheapest grip available. I prefer to buy and install them myself. Always blown on. Makes life so much easier.

I took a month off from playing... the last time that I was out, I don't know if I would have broken 100. On the front. So I just needed some time off. I went to the range with my 16 yo nephew before playing -- he was trying to get his game into shape before tryouts for HS golf. I happened to mention that his clubhead seemed a bit closed at address. He proceeded to go 36-39 (with a triple) from the tips while I went 40-43. He followed that up with a 39 for tryouts, so I think he owes me a steak or something.

It's a no-brainer around here. Sign up for a complete fitting with D'Lance. You pay once and can get fit again whenever you want for life. Their main offices are down south in Englewood, but Greg is their other fitter and he's at the Sports Stable in Superior, so pretty close to you. He's also a great guy that I just played 18 with on Friday.

Once you're set up and want to play, let me know.
I dilly dallyed around on this, and D'Lance is no longer operating at Superior. The bar was sold, and the operations went with it apparently. Greg is no longer there as well.

Another golfer I trust recommended GVR, so I may check that out. That location in Englewood (really Centennial) is a little too far.

Greg is now trying to make it as a professional golfer in mini-tours (for now), but he and I became golf buddies and he was still planning on doing fittings at another place up there (he lives in Erie). I can reach out and see what his deal if you're interested.

I played Quail Hollows Golf Club in Oakham, MA on Saturday. Short course, very hilly, kind of bipolar between its tight woodland front-9 and wide open back-9.

The greens are really really good. Except for one hole I thought they were phenomenal for < $40 golf. Fast, rolling nice, and with tricky slopes. Theres only so much maintenance you can do with low volume golf (it was not busy for 10am) and its clear they have decided to sink money into greens, first, fairways and approach areas second, and then everything else. Kudos to the greenskeeper.

Dont try and walk the course. Its built into a hill side and there are some journeys that are brutal. I regretted walking by the end because it took so much out of me and I am in very good physical shape.

Id definitely play it again. I think my only real complaint is the water in the little bar tasted like ass. Very chemically… stick to beer for hydration lol.

I used to play Bedrock and Quail Hollow when I was in college you could play for $10 or less with a college ID at both. Was amazing for that price.

The back 9 is great. The first four holes however are a joke. They did not have the room for a full golf course.

I liked the Par 3 4th. Im mentally drawing a blank on the 3rd hole at the moment. The first two holes are too short.
Its a 249 yard par 4 from the back tees. Driveable par 4s are one thing....For instance, 13 at Kettle Brook is an excellent golf hole. 285 yard par 4 from the tips. Old silo on the left. Wetlands to the right. Smallish green. Quail's 3 rd hole has none of the charm and all of the lack of distance.

I played a charity tourney there and finished 2nd (well the team did), so I have 4 passes that I need to use by the end of the year. I may not make it out there again, so if anyone wants them, let me know.

Club championship this weekend. I haven't finished one yet since being a member for various reasons. Last year it was during the brutal smoke when we had the worst air quality in the world and I lasted 7 holes before determining it wasn't worth it.

I'm sure I'll play like garbage as I always do in tournaments, but let's see if I can actually finish this year.

Thanks to @PedroSpecialK and one of his friends, I was part of the best scoring round of golf in my life. It was a scramble- so full disclosure there. We ended up -15... and we left shots out there. I was the Corey Pavin to the Dechambeaux. As a team, we were hitting our second shots from where most were hitting their third. We (And by "we", I mean everyone but me) were sinking putts that we had no business making. So thanks @PedroSpecialK , @The Napkin for a tremendous day ( @The Napkin - you were there in spirit)

Am I the only one who just loses it? I can't hit a driver more than 3 feet off the ground at this point. Put an iron in my hand it it is 95% of the time on target. I've played my last 3 rounds with the driver tethered to the bag, same thing with the 3 wood. How deep in my own head am I at this point?

The Oaks course at International re-opened Monday. I skipped the first day and played yesterday with my brother and a friend.

The course is a Tom Fazio design which opened I believe in 2000. When the owner passed away and his family took over the property, the upkeep and maintenance of the course declined. Escalante Golf bought the club out of bankruptcy last year and the Pines course has been open all year while Oaks was renovated.

Every bunker on the course has been renovated. White sand now fills the bunkers instead of rocks and dirt. The waste bunkers which had become overgrown in order for the course to appear "natural" have been restored. The course is back to looking absolutely stunning. Some other changes:

Removal of first fairway bunker on 1.

New tip tees on 2 and 3. A new fairway bunker off the left side of the fairway on 3.

7- Bunkering added to the right of the fairway near the landing zone and a bunker added on the left about 30 years before the green.

9- Old waste bunker filled in and replaced with two conventional bunkers.

17- New back tee added.

18- New back tee added.

If anyone is interested in checking it out I'd be happy to host for a round before it gets too damn cold.

Didn't it play 7000 yards from the old tips? Damn, did they really need to lengthen that beast?
Yeah. It was I think 6933 from the tips at Oaks. It can probably play up to about 71/7200 now. Coore and Crenshaw are completely redoing the pines and they are ridding the course of the absurd tiger tees, that will end up in the 71-7200 area range as well. Looks like they are going to try and attract the LPGA once the Pines redo is finished in 2024.

I played my first round in almost three months today. (Sheesh, what a summer and early autumn I've had.) Had a friend round as a visitor to Dunbar, with the wind blowing at 25-35 mph, and the results were about as crazy as you'd expect. I started double-bogey-bogey-par and was 4 down, but I birdied the 5th to start a fightback, and by the turn we were all square. Then I managed to play the wrong ball at the 11th and went 1 down again, and despite a battling performance I was 2 down standing on the tee of the par-3 16th...where I somehow managed to toe-shank a 5-iron at a 45-degree angle to the right of the tee that splashed in the ocean to effectively end the match there and then. I haven't done that in a very, very, very long time.

I had a strange round today. Front nine, a par and a long putt in from the fringe for a birdie. Rest bogeys. 6 over 41. on the back I had 3 more birdies
One chip in, one putt off the fringe, one tap in. But I had two whiffed chips for doubles. On the back, Standing on 18 I just needed bogey to break 80. Of course that was one of the whiffed chips for a double. I don’t think I have ever had four birdies in a round, but somehow I feel shitty about not breaking 80. I hate golf. Can’t wait for Saturday to play again.

Golf. The Devils' game.

I am not good at the golf. I started the 2021 season as a 28.1 handicap. I set a goal to be in the teens by the end of the season. Today I shot a 90 at Widows Walk in Scituate and that dropped me from a 20.5 to a 19.6.

Now I understand what Ted Williams felt like on that last day of the 1941 season, and like Ted I will continue onward!

Played in a best ball tournament on Tuesday. I played the last 10 holes even par. One birdie, one bogey.
it didn’t help a ton. They had Calloway scoring. Our gross was +6 and we ended up at -5. We were t-11

I played at Dunbar this morning with a Church of Scotland minister. After I made a birdie putt on the 8th to get back to even par, I turned to him and said, "Well, I'm American and you're European, so I guess I'm supposed to be kicking your butt at golf, right?"

It was a very weird round. I topped my opening tee shot, which went only about 30 yards before sticking in heavy rough; I yanked an approach into the ocean on the 4th; and three times I failed to get out of greenside bunkers, including twice at the same hole (the 17th). Despite all of that, I shot a 75 with three birdies, including one at the 18th when my 5-iron approach finished 18 inches from the hole. That will leave happy memories with me for a while! I know it's easy to say stuff like "Apart from those few mistakes, I would have broken par!", but really, I hit maybe six or seven shots which were utterly terrible, and the rest of the time I was solidly in control of every part of my game. What a bizarre feeling. (And I've been ill the last few days and only got four or five hours of sleep last night, too.)

Thanks! I guess it's because I've played a ridiculous amount of golf this season and I've taken four lessons with a guy I really like at Widows. The lessons have been very helpful and right off a lesson I'm much better but it slowly slips away over time.

Yesterday was a typical round - five pars and four triples. It's frustrating because I can get glimpses of being good (relatively speaking) but my wheels come flying off way too often.. And, I'm back above a 20 now.

My index is 14.2. I've broken 80 once in my life. Played yesterday with howling winds and shot 41 on the front. Opened poorly on the back, +3 after 2 holes. Hit the 12th green in regulation, ran the first putt by 12', but made the comebacker. Made back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14, bogey at 15, par at 16. I'm 2 over on the back on the par 3 17th. Hit it in the greenside bunker, and left it in there, ended up making double. Par on 18 for 81.

I've been struggling with my iron play, particularly short irons. I've been losing my posture and hitting shots fat or thin. Finally yesterday I was able to hit most of my short irons solidly which ended up with more GIRs. Playing again tomorrow - hoping for no doubles - and as many birdies...

I've been enjoying my experience at the private club in my town. A few members joined me a few times and also enjoyed the place.

I'm not playing as many full rounds as last year, but my game has been improving. Going after work when I can, playing 9 or 12 holes til it gets dark. Multiple balls, trying different shots, etc... Basically my only full 18 hole handicapped rounds now happen on weekends but my scores are lower for it.

Next weekend I'm also driving down to Myrtle Beach for 3 days of 36 holes per day. I haven't been in 20 years or so and I'm bringing a first timer (but scratch golfer) so I'm looking forward to a few days of nothing but golf.

I've started taking lessons at Golftec to try to do something about my 23 handicap. At the moment, it has made things worse as I try to learn a new swing. Maybe by next spring I'll have it down. Meanwhile I suffer.

Make sure you have a good instructor at GolfTec or it can be ruinous. I almost quit the game entirely after 6 months there of being told to “hold the lag” as my swing fell apart to the point I could barely get the ball off the ground. Went from a 12 to a 28, and took me 3 years with a new instructor to mostly recover (I’m a 13.5 currently). The technology is great, and in the right hands can do wonders for your game, but most of the instructors there are making $15-20/lesson for a reason.

I did!

Was T5 after the first day (after triple on 17), but faded and finished middle of the pack. The third day had atrocious weather and the course played ridiculously hard and long (every tee was one pace off the very back tee box).
I'd have thought that would be to your advantage. Maybe you're not as long as you used to be :)

I'm actually not, tbh, but definitely longer than the majority of guys in the champ flight. Distance isn't the problem, it's the aiming thats hard lol

I hit driver-3i-56 on 11 because the wind was so strong. Usually that's driver-wedge for me. It was nuts.

I also make a ridiculous amount of mental mistakes because I'm so aggressive. I realized the other day that I don't do enough to save bogies and let them turn into doubles and triples. I'm consistently shooting 75-80 with at least one or two doubles.

The other problem I have is mis-clubbing myself or trying to fit the ball into too small of an area and short siding myself. I played Chambers yesterday in an event with a caddy and he easily saved me 5 strokes just by talking me into or out of a few shots.

Wow! I'll try to be careful about that. I can't imagine the frustration you must have felt as your game fell apart. At the moment, my game is worse than when I started, but I'm only 2 lessons in and am adapting to a very different swing. Looking at the video at the start of my first lesson, my swing obviously needed serious adjustment, and for the moment I am ascribing my new struggles to the transition to a swing that seems more proper. If I go from a 23 to a 30 I might just throw my clubs away.

Growing pains to be expected, of course, just don’t want to see you throw time and money into something that isn’t working like I did. Trust the process, but only up to a point. And if you hear “hold the lag”… run.

I'm heading up to Maine with 24 guys to play tomorrow and Saturday. We're playing Cape Arundel, which I've heard mixed reviews about (in Kennebunkport), but mostly, I'm just upset they don't have a bar and it's BYOB. I can't remember the last time I played a course where I brought my own booze.

Each day, there is an A guy paired with a B guy (blind draw). It's $500/man for the weekend, plus you cover the costs of your greens/cart fees, etc. Each day, the pot pays out $6,000.00 ($2,500 to winner, $1,500 for 2nd place team, etc.) Should be a great time either way. I've been playing good, but my handicap has been sitting at a nice 11.3 index or so, which I'm really, really comfortable playing at with real money on the line.

Next week, we have our two day Calcutta at Andover (home course). Auction is on Thursday night, I believe there are 18 teams (again, A and B guy draw) and that's a two day combined score. Pot should be north of 50k for that one....

With the swing changes as well - and I am in the middle of one - I am making a real effort to work on core and flexibility. Like I have a lack of right shoulder flexibility that makes it terribly hard for me to get the club in the right place at the top of the swing and I make a bunch of other compensations to make up for it. I've finally committed to a program on both - not that they fix issues but I am convinced a number of issues with my swing are fitness related.
