My Desk
Saw Casas tonight in Hartford. He physically reminds me of a young Mark McGwire. He’s going to be special.

It's really hard to not be excited about the Red Sox' future. The team is already good. They've got a few superstars. And then the pipeline has a bunch of guys I'm excited about, headed by Casas and Duran.

I'd add Jimenez and Downs to the list of position players... and they have some pitchers to be excited about: Seabold, Houck, Mata, Groome (still) and add Whitlock to that (despite not being a "prospect") and Noah Song.

Crazy that Mata is going to miss the year but will only be 23 next year in AAA.

I'm really rooting for Groome (because it feels like he's had such a bumpy road and I want to see him overcome) and Song (because of his naval service). But yeah I agree - some exciting arms in the organization. Houck already looks fantastic.

In a deep funk atm.

Last 13 games: 56 PA, .167/.286/.250 with a .229 BAbip. 8bb/13k. Looks like some bad luck.

For the season, he's now at .273/.367/.430 in 139 PA, 17bb/32k.

On a curious note (probably sample size)
Home: 62 PA, .204/.306/.222, 8bb/18k.
Road: 77 PA, .328/.416/.597, 9bb/14k.

Last 22 games: 91 PA/81 AB, .210/.286/.272 on a .270 BAbip with 9bb/19k.

Season line: .268/.343/.392 in 172 PA on a .336 BAbip. 17bb/38k.

He hasn't been the same since rejoining the team.

It's possible he's broken out of his funk.

Last 7: 25 PA, .300/.440/.550, .263 BAbip, 5bb/0k, 2 2b, 1 HR.

He hit that off his fellow Portland Sea Dog, the 24 year old Denyi Reyes. He's quietly having a nice year (2.90 ERA / 7.17 K/BB).

Casas got robbed of a likely double on a nice play by DR's RFer

He's been decent of late but his terrible June is still heavily weighing down his overall season numbers.

For whatever reason, no one has really discussed the fact Triston Casas basically skipped over A+, having only 7 PA there. There has been some discussion about Jeter Downs skipping AA, but that's because he has struggled mightily. Casas has not struggled, outside of June. That can be explained away by his time off for the olympics.

Since July 1st: 99 PA/82 AB, .280/.394/.427 on a .300 BAbip, 14bb/11k. He had an 11 game stretch (40 PA) with 5bb/0k (.294/.375/.529, .242 BAbip).

In his first 153 PA this season, he hit .269/.353/.410 on a .344 BAbip with 17bb/38k.

Nice to see the in season adjustment from a 21 year old kid who skipped over A+.

His season line of .272/.367/.413 on a .325 BAbip with 31bb/49k in 252 PA looks much more impressive when you take everything into consideration. A little more power would be nice, but again, he's a 21 year old kid who skipped over A+. He has only had 19 PA against pitchers younger than him. He's hit them to the tune of .353/.421/.647 with 2bb/3k.

He just hit his third of the day in the second game of the doubleheader, up to 10 on the year

The outfielder barely moved. He knew it was out from the get go.

The catcher hung his head, the pitcher just wandered off the mound looking defeated, it looks like everybody knew it was gone, and they were expecting it.

Anyway, over his last 27 games: .292/.418/.551 on a .299 BAbip. 18bb/17k. 5 doubles, 6 HR. 110 PA/89 AB.

His last 136 PA, he has 21bb/18k. First 153 PA, 17bb/38k. This is a 21 year old kid who basically skipped over A+ and has moved around a few times this season.

Also walked twice tonight. Could see more of that in the coming days.

I like the way the opposing OFs don’t even bother looking anymore when Casas makes contact.

He is heating up to a point where a first half 2022 call up is gonna be in the cards.
