Jose Abreu gets hit in the upper arm... with the bases loaded, tying the game (Quantrill has also walked two batters in the inning)... and LaRussa immediately goes to the umpires and I believe just forced them to issue warnings. Now I hope Chicago throws at a Cleveland hitter and LaRussa gets himself and his pitcher ejected.

Bryant, Rizzo, and Baez are the first threesome in the modern era to each homer in their debut for a different team after starting the season with the same team.

Yeah, looks like he could have just parked underneath it at the wall… I think his non-reaction running back in was more because he knew he kinda goofed it?

Actually a pretty fun one for Orioles fans (both of you), Yankee haters (almost everyone reading this) and cat fans, that cat put up a way better fight than the once again comatose Yankee lineup. New pitching depth acquisition Heaney was completely shelled, he gave up 4 solo HRs in a six batter span over two innings, and the seventh batter just missed, high off the right-center field wall.

I was waiting for a second jump over the fence once the cat got on the outfield ledge, but he could never get enough of a pushoff.

Abraham Toro hits his 3rd HR in 7 games with the Mariners. Looking pretty good in Seattle so far.

Bumgarner beat his old team last night and had an inning where he retired the side on 5 pitches while facing 5 batters. A homer, a double and 3 outs, all on first pitches. Don’t see that everyday.

TIL Tyler Clippard is still in the majors, pitching for Arizona. He's made about $40m over a 14-year career.

I also just discovered that it was Chase Wright, not Tyler Clippard, who gave up back-to-back-to-back-to-back HR to the Sox. I've had that wrong for many years.

Javy Baez struck out 5 times today in the Mets loss to the Marlins. 3rd time in his career for him. First Met to do so since 1993. Marlins take 3 of 4.

Phillies are half a game back, and they have a head-to-head series this weekend.

Kimbrel inexplicably gave up a 3 run bomb to Andrew Romine of all people to blow it in the 8th, but looks like now White Sox will still win.

In the absence of Bieber and Civale, Cal Quantrill has quietly become Cleveland's best pitcher. Actually, it wasn't so quiet tonight: 7 shutout innings, 4 harmless singles, 0 walks, 10 K. His ERA is down to 3.14 for the season.

Mets out of first place for the first time since May 9, only 1/2 game ahead of ATL in third.

It looks like four of six teams from the East/West will make it, right now Astros/Rays/Sox/A's/Yankees/Jays in that order.

Harper's played a huge role in that too. He's hit .343/.451/.671 since June 18, and he's now at .305/.417/.563 (159 wRC+) on the season.

A lot of players that had been struggling are suddenly doing great after June 23. Joey Votto is surging, Miguel Cabrera has a great batting line since late June as well.

edit: Votto has a .304/.403/.681 line since June 23, Cabrera .302/.348/.491, Machado .341/.403/.635, Brandon Lowe .257/.386/.606, Goldschmidt .303/.369/.514. Will be curious to see if they maintain these levels

I guess the Tigers really didn't want to trade Schoop. They've now signed him to a 2-year extension instead.

Apparently the Mets just hit back to back HR for the first time in 14 years. That seems like a long time

Conforto, Villar and McCann went back-to-back-to-back. I'd assume three in a row is what they haven't done in 14 years.

...and the Braves are winning 2-0 in the 3rd. If they win, the Mets will find themselves in 3rd place.

The Brewers homered twice in the 10th inning and still lost to the Giants, wonder if that has happened before.

This sucked to look up but I found every such game with PBP data of nearly 5,400 extra inning homers, and there are quite a few such games. I am not including nonsense 8th/9th ‘extra’ innings. A * indicates home runs allowed were in the same inning. Team listed won and allowed two or home runs in the extra frames.

-5/17/1949, Dodgers over Cubs.*
-6/4/1958, Braves over Giants.*
-8/12/1966, Pirates over Reds.
-4/15/1969, Reds over Giants.*
-9/10/1976, Rangers over A’s.*
-6/12/1983, White Sox over A’s.*
-7/4/1985, Mets over Braves. As an aside, I believe this game has the most combined runs for both teams in extra innings, at 13.
-5/24/1988, Expos over Padres.
-5/15/1989, Phillies over Giants.*
-8/23/1993, Yankees over White Sox.*
-8/2/1996, Royals over Yankees.*
-5/2/2000, Royals over A’s.*
-6/26/2001, Pirates over Brewers.*
-9/18/2004, White Sox over Tigers.* First MLB and only known AL game where each team had multiple extra inning home runs. And both sides did so in the 10th! Personal aside, this was also the exact date/year of my first MLB game. Cool stuff.
-6/12/2005, Royals over Diamondbacks.
-6/4/2006, Giants over Mets.*
-8/20/2011, Rockies over Dodgers.*
-8/1/2012, Rangers over Angels.*
-8/5/2012, Tigers over Indians.*
-9/22/2012, Yankees over A’s.* Lone win for a team allowing 3+ home runs in extra innings, let alone the fact they were all allowed in one frame; the 13th.
-7/4/2013, Diamondbacks over Mets.
-6/16/2019, Red Sox over Orioles.*
-8/16/2019, Giants over Diamondbacks.* First and only known NL game where each team had multiple extra inning dingers.
-9/17/2019, Twins over White Sox.
-9/29/2019, Mets over Braves.*

Wow, surprising! Also please don't always feel compelled to answer me.

Surprised I don't remember that 2012 Yankees/A's game, what a motley crew of pitchers NY used in that one.

Phillies sweep, Mets in third, and if deGrom keeps missing time, then I think Wheeler is probably the Cy front runner at the moment, too.

Yup, and deGrom is not going to even qualify for the ERA title. Gibson’s mark is safe.
