Schwarber did an interview on MLB network on Friday I think. Naturally he was being asked about his recent HR tear and he was sort of downplaying it. He was asked about changes made to his stance and swing and about superstitions. Again sort of shrugging it off almost like he didn't want to jinx anything. I forget who did the interview, but he went on with something like, "At this point you have to keep doing the same thing every day don't you?" and at that point I said to myself, "He's fucked,".

Eaton doesn't seem to have the skills to overcome his personality anymore. Even with the injuries in their outfield, they'll eat over $4M just to be rid of him.

Orioles @ Rays game, broadcast live next Tuesday on YouTube, will be called entirely by women:
Melanie Newman, the Orioles’ radio play-by-play announcer since last year, will call the action for Tuesday’s game, which will be the MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube. Sarah Langs, a popular baseball analyst and writer for MLB.com, will be the analyst in the booth. Alanna Rizzo will handle the on-field reporting and Heidi Watney and Lauren Gardner will anchor the pre- and postgame shows.

“It can’t help but feel different,” Rizzo said in a telephone interview. “I’ve always had a male play-by-play voice in my ear during every game I’ve ever done. So, to do a game where those voices are Melanie and Sarah, that will be a unique feeling and a unique perspective of the game. It’s exciting to be a part of something like this.”
Women have been broadcasting baseball games on radio and television for decades, but this is believed to be the first time an all-women team will handle the entire broadcast for a major league game.

I definitely wouldn't want to be the team that signs Buxton long-term. You know if he enters 2022 as his walk year, he'll finally be healthy and put up an MVP-caliber season… and then as soon as he goes to the highest bidder, he'll break down all over again.

Definitely a real possibility. If I’m Minnesota, I’d be worried that if I trade him, he’ll find that healthy MVP level on a consistent basis with the new team. But I guess at the same time, I can see how that’s an argument for trading him sooner than later.

Pittsburgh has signed #1 overall pick Henry Davis with a $6.5M signing bonus. MLB's slot value for the pick was just under $8.5M. This is the cheapest #1.1 pick since 2016 and the same amount Dansby Swanson received in 2015.

All female broadcast right now for Baltimore/Tampa Bay on YouTube right now. Absolutely awe inspiring.

I put this in news because it’s a historical first in a way that isn’t like a stat.

I’m fascinated by this whole story. It seems easy to make LaRussa the villain, and I can’t stand the guy so I love that this makes him look bad. But the team is playing really well and he has to deserve some credit for that, if he’s gonna take the blame when things aren’t going well. It appears he really fucked up this whole situation with Mercedes but maybe there’s more to it and it would have happened with or without Tony throwing him under the bus.

Of course, it also could be just gamesmanship but Mercedes to try to force his way back to the bigs. I doubt that will work.

With a little self restraint and good financial advice he should be set for life before even tossing his first pitch as a pro.
Nice to have. All he has to do now is earn it. That is not a knock. Just an expectation that the Rangers and its fans will have.

Interesting that Sandy Alomar Jr isn't the one taking over. Hale has filled in when Tito has missed a random game, but Alomar stepped in when they needed someone for 2 months last year.

The other oddity here is that because of how managerial wins are credited, Tito will become Cleveland's all-time winningest manager while he's not even with the team.

There were doubts that he would return this year after his prolonged health problems and abscense in 2020. I've been expecting him to retire after this year regardless, so it will surprise me if this isn't the end of his career... but again, it's puzzling that they aren't giving Alomar the reigns in that case.

Passan makes it sound like he goes back into the draft no matter what he does next year.

If Rocker does not sign, the Mets would receive the 11th pick in the 2022 draft as compensation. It is unclear whether Rocker will return to Vanderbilt or pursue an alternate path, such as pitching in an independent league before reentering the 2022 draft or signing with an international league.
