Ohtani is your starting pitcher and leadoff hitter of the ASG. Pretty amazing to see X and Raffy go in the heart of the order as well.

NL Lineup

2. Muncy DH
3. Arenado 3B
4. Freeman 1B
5. Castellanos RF
6. Winkler LF
7. Realmuto C
8. Reynolds CF
9. Frazier 2B
Scherzer SP

AL Lineup
1. Ohtani DH/SP
2. Guerrero, Jr. 1B
3. Bogearts SS
4. Judge RF
5. Devers 3B
6. Semien 2B
7. Perez C
8. Hernandez LF
9. Mullins CF(injury replacement starter for Trout)

rules changed for this year to allow AL to keep the DH after Ohtani is out of game as a pitcher

I was at the Derby in 2018 when Harper won in front of the home crowd. That was fun. Of course the two guys I really want to see do well, Soto and Ohtani, face each other in the first round in the new bracket-style format.

Fundamentally disagree with Ohtani getting the SP nod.

Being an all-star starter is something to earn. He has 100% earned that right as a DH. Let someone else with better than a 4-1, 3.49 ERA have the SP honor.

Probably in a distinct minority here but it is what it is.

It’s just cool. That’s all.

It's fine. I don't care that much. I guess there are greater tragedies in the world than Lance Lynn getting screwed out of the ASG start.

Still not a fan of it tho.

Why is Ohtani going against Soto in the first round? I think everyone would like to see both of them for more than one round in the derby, they’re two of the most exciting players in baseball.

If l was abetting man, I’d take the over in NL 1st inning runs (guessing line is 0.5) if Shohei advances to the Finals

Moving the Line
11 weighted factor projection model I made for the Derby: as follows. First round: Ohtani 14, Soto 13, Gallo 23, Story 22, Olson 16, Mancini 15, Pérez 16, Alonso 15. Second round: Ohtani 20, Pérez 19, Gallo 20, Olson 19. Finals: Ohtani 22, Gallo 21.

Saddest part to me is that Ohtani would be projected for 96(!) total home runs if you didn’t auto win once you pass your head to head competition. Instead, because of this format, I’m projecting him at 56.

I’m rooting for Mancini
4 reasons
We play them again
Great personal story
They suck and need something to be happy about
It would make for a great 30 hours for that name

Is there a generally accepted year for when they started to juice the balls for this? I remember as a kid guys would get 8 or 9 and it’d be an amazing round. Now it seems like less than 15 and you have no shot.

So --- coverage starts at 8:00 means that the actual contest will begin around 8:25?

[Edit] Evidently not.

I like the look they just showed where you can initially see the launch angle and speed in real time

Thank you guys, I couldn't understand why this felt so much less exciting than I remember, and you nailed it. It used to be 10 outs rather than a time limit and that was so much better because moonshots can't be admired. It's just too rushed now.
