From the results of the autopsy, it sounds like the thing that killed him was the firework hitting him in the chest. He obviously fell and hit his head afterwards, and they assumed at first that's what killed him. Just awful luck for the poor guy.
Yeah, after new information this is somehow even more tragic. The poor guy was in a hot tub and just got hit by an errant firework. He apparently wasn’t messing around with them or anything. Just wrong place at the wrong time. Very sad.

Rangers have the picks and young players to trade….
I don't really see much of a fit for NYR. They are loaded on the wings. Panarin, Kreider, Lafrenierre, Kaako, Kravstov, Buchnevich. If they cash in some of the futures they have I think it would be for a center since Zibanejad is a year away from free agency and then their #2 is Ryan Strome.

I'd be curious to see what the price would be on Tarasenko. He's making $7.5 for the next 2 seasons and has only played 30ish games since 2019. He came back from his second shoulder surgery in March and was just ok. He used to be a force - 58% ish xG guy at ES - but is that who he still is today? I don't think anyone can say that without more runway post injury. STL runs into some of the trouble VAN would with Nate Schmidt in that only a contender would trade for him but none of the contenders have any cap space without sending money back.

I agree with this. The Rangers and Ducks have been the most discussed teams in the Eichel rumor mill for this reason. If they are scared away by the acquisition cost or the medicals for Eichel, I would think they would still be interested working with the Sabres for Sam Reinhart as option 2 at center.

Also, maybe this all should be moved to a July news thread.

He's also due $9.5 million in salary this season and has a full no-move. That's a lot of cash for a team to take on post-pandemic. It said in the article he is believed to have given the Blues up to 10 teams to work with. If he limits himself to contenders, the list of contenders with that kind of cap space is basically just Boston and Carolina.

He's also not a great fit in Carolina as RW is a real strength for them. They have Turbo and Necas in their top 6 for less than $6m between them. There doesn't seem to be real need for a $9m RW. This offseason is going to be fun.

If they're wanting to win now, I think they try for Tarasenko and use Buchnevich in a trade. Buch is an impending RFA and they have an upcoming roster crunch after this year when a ton of their core young guys are up for new deals(Kaako, Kravstov, and Fox are all RFA's and Strome/Mika Z are UFA's).

I think that's exactly why this doesn't make sense for them. they have $47m in cap space after next year but only 6 skaters signed. They need to find the money to resign or replace their 4 of their top 6, 5 of their bottom 6, Adam Fox and their goalie. I expect Fox and Zibanejad to take up almost $20mil of that space. I just don't see how having a 31 yo RW on the roster making $7.5 mil furthers their build towards a cup, especially when Buch and Kakko are both likely younger and have a decent chance to be better since Tarasenko doesn't really look like the old Tarasenko these days and both of those players appear to be ascending.

If I'm the Rangers and Chris Drury - I'd do the opposite. I'd move Strome and Zibanejad for younger assets. Their window is clearly not open and most of the players you expect to be great when it is (2024ish?) are all 23 or younger.
