If Belgium scores and win, and Russia gets just one, can they make it with 3 points? Do they push out Ukraine for the 16th spot? Would be kind of funny.

The Danes probably need to hold this two-goal edge to have any chance to advance. They lose on tiebreakers to the Ukraine if they only win by one goal, and I don’t think there will be room at the inn for two 3-point teams.

JFC

Denmrk misses all the sitters and that hammers that.

Russian defense ain't what it used to be. Then again, it's summer not winter, and not at home.

Russian defenders just get out of the way for some reasons.

Can Ukraine still get in?

And Denmark will get a winnable match against Wales on Saturday.

Back to the drawing board for Russia which clearly needs a new plan. And what's that new plan you ask?

Annex Ukraine. Annex Ukraine for footballing reasons.

now getting memories back from 1992 when I was a wee lad at summer camp playing soccer (and team handball) and hearing about Denmark winning surprising every one of us.

Shaping up to be a very Western Europe affair. Ukraine still have a chance as a third place finisher. Not sure if Austria and Czech Republic are "western" as such but if Spain go through you could be looking nothing really east of the lower Adriatic.

Not surprising just interesting.

How does one root for a neutral observation tie, which is what I have to do (Croatia/Scotland) now?

Yeah, that Croatia/Scotland match tomorrow is going to be interesting. Both teams know they are guaranteed to advance if they win but both will be eliminated if they draw.

I always remember that the craziest part of that was that Denmark failed to qualify for the Euro's that year but were given a lifeline when Yugoslavia fell apart.
