I am clearly mistaken, but I thought AED usage and chest compressions are not compatible. I thought if there is no heartbeat, you do CPR because an AED only helps when the patient is fibrillating, not to re-start a stopped heart. And if there is a fibrillating heart, you don't do chest compressions because that is dangerous to a beating heart. Could one of you medical nerds set me straight?
Per the article above regarding Muamba, he received 15 “shocks” in combination with CPR over the course of 78 minutes. I’ve done CPR training a few times and they teach you how to use an AED and I was taught to put the pads on as soon as possible and the machine tells you whether to deliver a shock.

The cpr keeps some blood moving. The aed analyzes the rhythm. If it is shockable, the aed tells you, you clear the patient, then shock. Hoping to restore a normal rhythm. If not continue cpr for another 2 min then try again
Some arrythmias are not shockable and meds are used.
cpr is paramount

Now I'm seeing a lot of online rage about the decision to keep the cameras rolling. I don't agree. I would rather watch and know what's happening than be kept in the dark and thinking the worst. At least if you could see them giving CRP, you would know there was a chance.

The constant outrage cycle really is a drag. Nothing can happen without people being pissed off. If they cut the cameras, people would be pissed off too.

Twellman apparently like criticized the medics and is getting roasted all over. Was also pulled from the studio set

edit - he said cpr took too long to start or similar

Reggie Lewis would be my reference point as well. Players will always want to play. He needs to fight that impulse and follow the best (not the "best case") medical advice.

You can always choose to not watch. Scary things happen in life. Hiding them isn't the answer.

No one may give a shit at this point (honestly I’m having trouble getting geared back up), but Belgium’s team is out.

Usual 3-4-3, Tielemans in for DeBruyne, Dendoncker for Witsel, Castangne and Carrasco out wide, and Thorgan Hazard in for his brother. Eden is in the squad on the bench.would love to see a productive 15-20 from him.

my wife rolled her eyes at that. She said the medics did a fantastic job.

I asked the question about CPR and the AED. She said the assumption in the question was wrong and gave a 10 minute explantion, of which I understood about 9 words. I think the responses upthread more or less correspond.

From my friends sister that lives in europe

“BREAKING: Denmark vs. Finland is to resume at 8:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. ET).

The Danish statement adds that the players confirmed Christian Eriksen is "OK" before agreeing to restart the game.”

I disagree vehemently. A pan out shot or something would have been sufficient. They were showing him being defib on live tv and showing his wife. There is a line between information and going too far and they went too far. I think it took them to realize how serious the situation was and it was not decent to show as much as they did.

I asked her many of the questions that have been asked here. She said it isn't that they can't do CPR during transport. The issue is that stopping CPR while they turn him on his side, get the board/stretcher under him, and positioned - just those few seconds of stopping CPR is enough to have dramatic negative effects. She said as a field medic, there are about 10 things they are looking for with a cardiac arrest in a pre-hospital setting ("h's" and "t's"). She said they have medications and tools they use trying to address those and hope it is one of them. She was extremely encouraged that they took him off after about 15 minutes of work. She said that it certainly appeared to be a well run operation and this scenario is certainly something they planned for and drilled. That they took him off indicated strongly to her that they got back a pulse.
Thanks to your wife for the info and you for posting this. I had no idea.

Maybe Eriksen got word out he wanted the game played. Do it for the Gipper kind of thing.

You could have turned it off, no?

That's what I meant in my first post about this. You're pissed at the production. But what are they supposed to do, pretend it didn't happen? If they did that, another entirely different group of people would be pissed. So my point is that this entire outrage cycle over everything is just a constant race to the bottom. People are just mad and they cannot wait to tell you how mad they are.

That was almost as traumatic as watching Paul Pierce leave the court on a wheelchair.

Great news that he's responsive. Feels a bit soon to play this but both teams signed off.
View: https://twitter.com/UEFA/status/1403775827104370696

Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC). The last four minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.

They showed his fuckin wife in tears in the stands. It's absolutely tasteless. Nothing is gained by continuing to show the scene on the field as a guy fights for his life. Cut to the studio for god sakes.

I thought hazard would be more advanced than Carrasco, but that’s not the case. I’d expect a lot os switching from them though

I don't get how that goal stands but a guy is a whisker off and they'll call it back. So bizarre.
