They did this on Monday too, an off-day, where Chavis was optioned and they didn't formally activate Arroyo until Tuesday.

Not clear what the corresponding move will be, Duran is on team USA.

They dropped a pitcher when they had the two off days (Monday, today) coming up. I fear they will add another reliever

A couple names here sound familiar

Sorted by ERA as that's the default on the site

I'd guess it's someone on the 40.

I doubt it's Marcus Wilson but he might have a non zero chance.

And Eduardo Bazardo.

I'm thinking it's going to be either Workman or...gulp...Brewer with both already being on the 40 man if they go the reliever route. I'd love it to be Bazardo but his injury disqualifies him right now.

Edit: Brandon Brennan, not Workman

Workman isn't on the 40.

Options on the 40
Colton Brewer
Brandon Brennan

Bazardo is actually injured, as are Houck, Seabold, and Mata. Groome isn't an option.

Him and Brewer are literally the only 2 healthy option out of the 7 guys on the 40 outside of Jay Groome.

I think it's Chavis or Wilson.
Yeah, I think it's likely chavis. I kind of find it funny that they sent him down knowing pretty well that Franchy's days were numbered, but he's not the first not will he be the last to ride the Merloni shuttle.

Wilson or Arauz also are possibilities, but definitely not as likely.

I'll add to the chorus that suspect it will be a pitcher. There was talk when Santana was added (and Brice DFA) that they timed it for when they'd be playing in an NL park and liked the flexibility of a deeper bench. Now that that series is over, and they're through the two off-days in four stretch, they're going back to carrying an extra pitcher because for god knows what reason they're fixated on having a guy to sit out a week at a time in the bullpen.

Can Chavis be recalled so soon without an injury on the 25-man roster? Pitcher seems to be coming.

What possible reason is there to bring back Chavis, when they have Gonzalez and Santana, and more importantly, when Chavis can't field a major league position and has a career whif % (33.2)very near to Franchy (35.3).

Please be a pitcher....

I consider it a victory for Truth, Rationality, and Justice. . .

But watch him start hitting the snot out of the ball in AAA - you'll see me seamlessly pivot to join the "Free Franchy!" crowd, complete with Normandy Landing jokes.
As for the former, it really should be "Truth, Justice, and the Red Sox Way."

As for the latter, we're all hoping to be able to welcome you to the future bandwagon.

Personally, I do think this makes sense. Franchy needs ABs, and he can better get them at AAA now that we have someone like Santana to help the big club.

At least we know that with the WooSox, he'll be barrelling those grounders to 2B with high exit velocity.

I think it will be a pitcher playing the role of sacrificial lamb. They have a brutal run coming up after the Marlins. 7 against the 'Stros, 3 against the Yanks 4 vs the Jays, and then 2 against the Braves. Doesn't make much sense to bring up a positional player before then unless someone is dinged up.

I've never had an issue with them having extra pitchers around. It saves wear and tear on their actual useful pitchers.

It's not even that he is unlucky, he just literally cannot get on base. He might have better chances if he just starts running to 1st base when he comes up to bat. I know you can't, but it would be hilarious if he tried.

Let’s hope Javy Baez doesn’t lurk this board. He doesn’t need any more ideas

Starting on the 31st (first Astros game) and running to the 14 (Toronto) there are huge possible swings in the standings. Those two weeks are potentially pivotal.

Then June 22 to 27 has 3 TB games and 3 NYY games. Great time for rando players to be hot. Brutal time to have key hitters in a funk.

Later, July 15 to Aug 1 are nothing but Jays, NYY, TB.

I know the schedule is unbalanced by design, but it feels very clustered to me this year.

I would think unless he totally falls on his face in Worcester, Cordero will be back up well before September. There are bound to be injuries that necessitate a recall at some point, and if not, they just can't go the whole season with a 3 man bench.

Duran will likely be up after the Olympics and before September 1, unless he really begins to lose his offense or is hurt. Who he replaces I'm not sure. But given that he will be on the ML roster early August, the September call ups will likely be Wong and a pitcher.

HR #3. Currently 2/3.

Going into today's game, he was slashing .333/.385/.708 in 26 AAA PA. 2bb/9k.

FWIW, in his last 15 PA in the big leagues, he slashed .333/.333/.733 with that monster HR in Philly. 0BB/3K.

I only bring it up to show that maybe, just maybe it isn't just AAA pitching he's benefiting from. Maybe he was starting to figure things out before he was sent down. All may not be lost.
