Gilberto Jimenez was 3/5 with a double yesterday. He hasn't really hit for any power yet but at some point the Sox may have to think about promoting him because it's clear his speed is playing in a big way.

He currently has an 11 game hitting streak and his had a hit in 13 of the 14 games this season. His line for the season is at .390/.446/.475 with a .434 BAbip. He has 3bb/6k in 65 PA. He has been successful in all 4 of his SB attempts.

During his 12 game hitting streak: .435/.490/.522, .476 BAbip. 3bb/4k in 51 PA.

I have a feeling he is going to struggle in Portland initially but I'm not sure he's long for Salem. in 2019, his BAbip was .413 in Lowell. In 2018, it was .378. Speed kills in the lower levels.

Somehow Nick Decker is only 21 years old and in Salem. It feels like he's been around forever. He's currently slashing .238/.407/.429 in 54 PA with 11bb/12k. 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR and 2 sb, 0 cs. He was the 2nd round pick in 2018 and had a pretty good debut followed by an ok 2019.

And while not really a prospect, the Redsox have their very own Grant Williams too. He has had 41 PA this year. He has 6bb/0k. Slashing .373/.463/.457. Only mentioned him because 0k in 41 PA sticks out like a sore thumb.

After a brutal 9 game stretch to start the season, Jeter Downs over the last 5 games: .389/.450/.611, .545 BAbip. 1 2b, 1 HR, 2bb/6k in 20 PA. Still striking out too much but it's a start.

In the K-heavy, shift-heavy era, Jimenez is oddly fascinating. Seems to me like a very interesting 9-hole (2nd leadoff man style) prospect with potential to be a lead off guy if he can show it at higher levels and hit more line drives, etc.

Jeter Downs hit his 3rd HR of the season after hitting his 2nd yesterday.

Currently at .250/.328/.433.

And on cue, he hit his first HR of the year today.

Maybe time to start paying attention to Tyler Dearden. Going into today, he was hitting .318/.434/.705 in 53 PA with 8bb/18. He's currently 0/0 with 3bb today. He's a bit old for Greenville though.

Jeter Downs stays hot and is currently 2/3. He had his 7th SB of the year.

Gilberto Jimenez hit his first HR of the year, following an awful 0/5 yesterday. Currently 1/3.

Wonder how the Greenville Fight Club Chapter is.

4th straight scoreless inning of relief for Workman...hmmm, this could get interesting.

Winckowski also looking good in the early going this year

After yesterday's game, Tyler Dearden's line is .326/.466/.761 in 58 PA. 11bb/18k 5 doubles, 5 HRs. 15 hits, 46 At bats.

His teammate is mashing too but is going to be 24 soon and is a 1b. Tyreque Reed: .304/.439/.739 in 59 PA. 9bb/16. 2 doubles, 6 HRs. 14 hits, 46 at bats.

Everyone in Greenville is kind of mashing so it's hard to make anything of it and most of the players in Greenville are also old for A ball. As a whole, the team is hitting .261/.346/.494 with an .840 OPS. The 2nd best OPS in the league is .731. 8 out of the 12 teams have an OPS under .700. 2 teams under .600. I'm guessing Greenville's age has a lot to do with it.

Matthew Lugo is off to a terrible start. 64 PA, .210/.219/.306 with 0bb/18k.

Jaxx Groshans, the 5th round pick of 2019, is off to a decent start in Salem. The catcher turns 23 soon so is pretty old for Salem (Most of the Greenville and Salem players are). In 47 PA, he is slashing .314/.468/.429 with 11bb/8k.

Wil Dalton, the 9th round pick of 2019, is currently hitting .308/.391/.538 in 46 PA with 6bb/14 for Salem. The RF is 23 years old.

Triston Casas is currently at .328/.400/.552 in 75 PA. 7bb/18. .298/.389/.532 in 54 PA vs R, .400/.429/.600 in 21 PA vs L.

Grant Williams is now at 49 PA, 0k.

Jeter Downs is now at .270/.361/.444 in 72 PA with 8bb/27k. Last 8 games: .379/.455/.724, 4bb/10k in 33 PA, 3 HRs and 4/4 in SBs. He got off to a slow start so Casas and Duran have gotten all the attention so far but that could change soon.

Jordan DiValerio, A non draftee I believe, is currently at 4 games, 0.00 era, 12.2 ip, 6 hits, 0 extra base hits, 0bb/17k in 45 BF. Hitters are slashing .140/.178/.140. He has hit 2 batters.

Shane Drohan, 5th round pick in 2020, has made 3 starts, 0.75 era, 12.0 ip, 5 hits, 1r/1er, 6bb/15 in 44 BF. Hitters are slashing .135/.250/.162 against him.

My darkhorse Brayan Bello is now at 3 starts, 2.20 era, 16.1 ip, 12 hits, 4r/4er, 4bb/23k in 61 BF. His last 2 starts: 5.2 ip, 2 hits, 1r/1er, 1 HRA, 2bb/10k. 5.0 ip, 6 hits, 2r/2er, 1bb/10k. I think I already said it but I'll repeat myself anyone, if he stays healthy all year, he's going to be a top 10 propsect in the system if not top 5.

Great summation. DiValerio's numbers are fantastic (WHIP looks like it around 0.5). SoxProspects doesn't think much of him but whatev

Lugo is very young (apparently just turned 20) so...

I forgot about Drohan and how there was some excitement when he was drafted. The supposed book on him is he'll need to fill out to see what we've got so this excellent start already is great to see

Any thoughts/intel on Johan Mieses? 11 home runs already for the Sea Dogs. He's 25, playing mostly RF, and is mashing the ball so far this spring. Looks like he had good stats in a short stint with AAA Memphis in 2019 but it was only 22 games. Otherwise, he hasn't put up big numbers in the Dodgers and Cardinals' organizations.

Also Josh Winckowski tossed seven shutout innings on one hit, no walks, and nine strikeouts.

I was about to make a post about him a few times but kept deciding against it. He'll turn 26 soon and is in AA so he's very old for the league. On the other hand, he has 11 HRs in 76 At bats. That's ridiculous. Probably worth keeping an eye on but not worth getting excited about yet.

Winchowski looks like a great pickup so far! And so does Workman with another shoutout inning (and 3 punchouts)

Chavis with 5 strikeouts so far in the doubleheader. Going out on a limb that at least some of them were high fastballs

Soooo... what's up with Tyreque Reed?

He's 24, but .309/.435/.735 in 19 games in Greenville is a pretty nice line. It would be good to get him up against some more age-appropriate competition and see if there's anything there.

So, WooSox allowed 18 runs yesterday, Weber and Poyner each allowed 8ER, the latter in 2/3 of an inning!

Sox offense pounded out 8 hits, lost 5-18.

Got bumped up to Worcester on June 2. So far, 0-3 in his first game with the WooSox.

Jeremy Wu-Yelland with a great start today - or as long as they let him go (4 IP) with 8 punch outs, no walks and 3 hits. I'm looking forward to watching him and Shane Drohan, two lefties picked back to back in the 4th and 5th rounds last year.

Not Sox related - but Tyler Zombro is likely done for his career. 8th inning line drive off his head, dropped and started convulsing. Horrific. They suspended the game because of it. Never seen anything like it.

edit: GOOD NEWS (as good as can be expected anyway)

Mieses is 2/3 with a HR tonight. I am now interested.

Wilson hit his 6th HR of the year as well and before today's game was slashing .259/.375/.543 in 96 PA with 14bb/38k. Needs to work on that a bit.

I mean seriously. That home run insane. It bounced up and rolled up the side of the first tanker, jumped to the second tanker, then rolled along the top of the second. rolled to the left side of the tanker train. Hit something on the train. Then bounced back up Off the tanker and back into the park.

Random updates about a few of my binkies and a few stat lines I find interesting

Pedro Castellanos is up to .267/.333/.438 on a .293 BABip for the year in 117 PA with 9bb/20k. Last 4: .389/.389/.889 in 18 PA, 1 double, 1 triple, 2 HRs. He finished 2019 strong by hitting 7 HR in his last 20 games (82 PA). Prior to that, he has 6 HR in 1250. Including this season, that gives him 11 HR in his last 199 PA. This guy is HUGE and he should be hitting for power. He is in 23 and in AA, so mostly age appropriate. He had been age appropriate or young for every league prior to covid. (AA 1b/LF)

Marcus Wilson is slashing .271/.386/.576 in in 101 PA with 15bb/40k. He also has 6 HRs and 1 HBP. Out of the 101 PA, he has put the ball in play 39 times. 17 for hits. Last 8: .360/.515/.800, 33 PA, 3 HRs, 7bb/10k. His BAbip for the season is a ridiculous .436. 16 of his 23 hits are for extra bases and he's been successful in all 6 SBA. (AAA OF)

Johan Mieses is slashing .293/.369/.717 for the year in 103 PA with 12 HRs, 9bb/20k. He was recently promoted to AAA. Last 9 games: .371/.389/.886, 36 PA, 5 HRs, 1bb/6k. He turns 26 in a month but given the time off to covid, he's not your typical 26 year old in AAA. He hit 28 HRs as a 20 year old in A+ and followed that up with 24 HRs as a 21 year old, 16 of those HR in AA. He did struggle in AA mightily, but the power was still there. He struggled the following 2 years while still hitting for power and improving his plate discipline. He's looking like a guy who will make it to the MLB at this point, at least for a few at bats. (AA/AAA OF)

Michael Chavis is struggling, slashing .229/.288/250 in 52 PA with 2bb/17k. Not good (AAA 1b/2b)

Josh Winchowski has a 2.25 era in 32.0 ip, with 28k/9bb. Hitters are slashing .190/.244/.273 against him with a .228 BAbip in 131 PA. I don't know why, but I get right handed Brian Johnson vibes from him. (AA SP)

Kutter Crawford has a 3.54 era in 20.1 ip with 4bb/25k. Hitters are slashing .200/.237/.329 against him with a .267 BAbip in 76 PA. He has a 32.9% K rate and 5.3% BB rate. (AA SP)

Denyi Reyes has a 3.12 era in 17.1 ip with 3bb/15k. He was a former Sox Farm Starting Pitcher of the Year or something like that. He's always been a binky of mine because he never walks anyone. His career BB rate in the minors is 3.7% over 1991 PA (73 bb, 496.0 IP) He's repeating Portland but should probably be promoted soon. He's one of those guys you have to let pitch to see if they'll succeed or not. (AA SP)

Tyreque Reed is slashing .321/.432/.705 in 95 PA with 14bb/25k and 8 HRs. He turns 24 in 2 days so is 2-3 years too old for the league (as far as legit prospects go). He had a decent track record as a minor leaguer in the Texas organization. At least until he hit A+, where he struggled in his 126 PA. He's also a 1b/DH type so he has to hit to make the show. He's 6'1, 250 lbs. (A+, 1b/DH)

Tyler Dearden continues to have a successful season. The 22 year old is slashing .293/.426/.587 in 94 PA with 17bb/31 and 12 XBH (5 HRs). He turns 23 in a month but if he earns a promotion to AA this year, will be age appropriate. (A+, OF)

Alex Schreff has a 3.86 era in 11.2 ip with 9bb/22k. Hitters are slashing .122/.294/.190 against him. 43.1% K rate, 17.6% BB rate. Probably hard to settle in at the plate with a pitcher like him on the mound (A+, MR)

Jaxx Groshans is having a very solid year in A, slashing .308/.459/.477 in 85 PA with 19bb/15k. If he keeps it up, he'll earn a promotion soon. A player walking more than he strikes out is a sign that league may be too easy for him. (A, C)

Nick Yorke is slashing .247/.327/.309 in 110 PA. Last year's 1st round pick is hitting .556/.636/.833 over his last 22 PA with 4bb/1k. Considering he just turned 19 a few months ago, it's not shocking he struggled initially at A. (A, 2b)

Matthew Lugo continues to be terrible, slashing .237/.255/.309 in 103 PA. On the bright side, he just turned 20.

Jeremy Wu-Yelland has a 1.96 era in 18.1 ip with 9bb/27k. His last outing was his best of the year, going 4.0 ip with 3 hits, 0r, 0bb/8k. He has a 34.6% K rate, and 11.5% BB rate. Hitters are slashing .185/.299/.200 off him with a .308 BAbip. The 2020 4th round pick turns 22 in 3 weeks. (A, SP)

Cross posting from the Franchy main board thread as it seems more appropriate here:

The Sox Prospects guys have reported that there’s something of a wind tunnel effect at Polar Park, in part stemming from an open gate (or something?) right behind the plate. Not sure if it’s always there, but they noted that it’s probably contributing to some of the offensive explosions at the park.

Great roundup. It’s nice to feel like there is some depth and upside in the system again even with some injuries knocking a few guys out.

Winckowski seems like a much different animal than Johnson. Good velocity and power slider that could play up in a bullpen role if starting doesn’t pan out. Johnson needed impeccable control with his mediocre stuff, and he never had it (I recall lots of high offspeed stuff).

It's basically a wraparound bar with some table/hightop seating where the front is on the concourse and the back is open with just a railing. You can see it in this tweet (the seating bowl and the field are to the left out of frame):

The WooSox are getting interesting after another win today. A 19-13 record to go with the new location/stadium to start. Plus Duran of course. But the rest of that outfield – combined with Duran - is amazing right now! Franchy’s OPS isn’t very close to 1 because it’s way over - 1.3! And Mieses and Wilson are suddenly looking like decent prospects. I’ll steer clear of Downs and Chavis for now

Brandon Howlett has been on a tear of late. A 21st round pick in 2018, the HS 3b made a name for himself putting up a .289/.402/.513 line in 184 PA as an 18 year old with 28bb/41k and 6 HRs. His sophomore campaign wasn't as promising, but he finished the year with a .231/.341/.356 line in 465 PA as a 19 year old in Greenville with 56bb/144k.

This year, Howlett is currently slashing .283/.390/.486 with 15bb/30k in 118 PA. 10 doubles, 2 triples 2 HRs. Last night, he went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles. Over his last 7 games: .348/.531/.826 on a .389 BAbip with 8bb/4k, 7 extra base hits in 32 PA, 23 At bats. At 21, he is more than age appropriate for A+, especially factoring in Covid.

Howlett is currently 2/3 tonight with a double and a HR. 10 of his last 11 hits have been for extra bases, 12 of his last 14.

Currently at .294/.397/.529 in 121 PA.

That's 6/7 with 4 doubles and a HR in the last 2 games for those keeping track. Jeeez.

Mieses hit his 14th HR and 3rd in AAA. Currently 1/3 with a HR.

Jeter Downs is 1/3 and hit his 4th HR of the year. Duran is 2/2 with a bomb and a bb

Per MassLive - the WooSox have a Red Sox Affiliate record 10 game road winning streak, after their 6 games in Syracuse. So not all of their damage is being done within the Polar vortex.

Aldo Ramirez with another good start. 5ip, 3hits, 0r, 1bb/7k.

For the year: 8 games, 2.03 era, 31.0 ip, 27 hits, 9r/7er, 8bb/32k, 1 HRA in 130 BF. 24.6% K rate, 6.2% BB rate. Hitters are slashing .229/.269/.311 with a .292 BAbip.

He has gone the last 15.1 ip without giving up a run. 8 hits, 4bb/17k in that time. 49 GB to 41 FB.

He was purchased for $550,000 from the Mexican League in 2018. He currently sits around 93-95 (and has been improving). He has 2 potential plus pitches and 1 potentially average one.

Just turned 20. He's 8th on soxprospects.com.

WooSox look amazing - 7 in a row and averaging close to 10 runs a game during the stretch. And 3 more hits for Franchy who's now batting over .400!

Decent 4 shutout inning outing (7 punchouts) for Groome although control is still a big issue. But he's still building back up so as long as he can keep his head above water, i think it will be a lot more important to see where he's at in August

It was a perfect night at the plate for Franchy as he had two walks (one intentional) to go with the three hits. He also had a nice diving catch, though I couldn't say if it's a case of turning what should have been an easy play into a difficult one.

Just about everyone for Worcester was hitting the ball tonight (e.g. Wong had two hits).

First 11 AAA games for Mieses: 48 PA, .293/.375/.585, 1 2b, 1 3b, 3 HR, 4bb/11k.
For the year in AA/AAA: 143 PA, .288/.371/.672, 4 2b, 1 3b, 14 HR, 13bb/30k.

Jonathan Arauz last 8 games: .346/.471/.654 with a .304 BAbip in 34 PA with 7bb/2k. For the year in AAA: 112 PA, 16bb/20k. .215/.321/.366 on a .233 BAbip. He's been incredibly unlucky all year. With normal luck (.300 BAbip), his line would be .269/.366/.430.
