Now I've heard there was a secret chord
Taylor Hall played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for Jersey, do you?
The Garden State, it is the pits
The Turnpike always smells like shit
But now we're in the playoffs, Hallelujah

7:00 tonight, again at the Prudential Center. We can move within a point of both WAS and PIT if the latter loses (WAS is off tonight). Two games in hand against the Pens, one against the Caps...who have quite possibly seen the last of Tom Wilson this year. I know there's a school of thought that in this condensed format, getting in is what matters, but I want more. Win.

EDIT: Well, I guess we'll just have to wait for Tom Wilson to kill a guy.

Yea, I don't want to see the Bruins take the foot off the gas too much.

Give Bergy/Marchand/Pasta/Rask/McAvoy/Miller/Krejci a rest day here or there. Get Studnicka, Vaak, Senyshyn up here and up to game speed in case of injury in the playoffs. Give Swayman all but 1 or 2 of the remaining games. Finish strong, but most importantly finish healthy.

I'd prioritize rest over wins the rest of they way. It'd be nice to get into a home ice spot but I don't think it's critical. The schedule has been so brutal over the past 2 months that I think a week+ off would be super beneficial.

I'd let Rask pick his schedule the rest of they way. He said last night that "less is more" in terms of playing time the rest of the way. If he feels he can be ready for game 1 without further work, then see you game 1. They'll need to get Halak some work over the last 5 games and on the goalie front make a determination of who is the backup for the post season.

Well nothing crazy lineup wise for tonight. Probably because they're on the road and Providence played yesterday. Carlo is in for Miller and Reilly is in for Zboril. Frederic in for Kuhlman. Halak in net.

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
Hall - Krejci - Smith
Ritchie - Kuraly - Coyle
DeBrusk - Lazar - Frederic

Grzelyck - McAvoy
Reilly - Carlo
Lauzon - Clifton

Halak

If they are healthy, the defense group looks as good as it has in quite awhile. Choosing among Lauzon, Zboril, Miller and Clifton (assuming he's still on that bubble, which may not be the case) for 2 spots is a reasonably nice problem to have.

I would like to see Reilly and Carlo play together the rest of the games on the schedule as Carlo's health allows, but them getting some chemistry before the playoffs will be important as I envision them as the 2nd pair.

Yeah, the pairings on defense, backup G and bottom 6 configuration are the work for the last few games.

On D I'd put Reilly with Carlo and see what happens. We have a reasonable sample size of awesomeness when Grzelyck and McAvoy are paired. 14-6 in real goals, 62% xGF% in 284 minutes.

They may have found something with the Ritchie - Kuraly - Coyle trio. They are outscoring teams 4-1 when they've been together in 37 minutes. I always get nervous elevating Kuraly though, he's never really looked comfortable above the 4th line and I worry his black hole offensively will catch up to him. Ideally I'd like to get the 74 - 13 - 21 line going for a formidable 3rd line but alas we'll see. Then maybe Kuraly - Lazar - Kuhlman for the 4th line.

Backgup G, I'm not sure. Swayman has outplayed Halak but Halak has the veteran experience. I'd almost rather have Halak dress as the backup because he would have more experience in entering a game cold than Swayman, but if something happened to Rask I'd probably prefer starting Swayman ahead of Halak. If that makes sense. Maybe it doesn't matter. If you have to go to a backup G in the middle of the playoff game you're going to be behind the 8-ball no matter what.

After last year, I think we know what we have in Halak for the playoffs, and it’s not enough, even assuming he’s 100% healthy.

Ride with the kid, I think. If nothing else, maybe he gets blooded in a blowout.

Has Grz ever done playoff-level top pairing minutes? I see his highest TOI this year was 24 minutes or so. It might be a good idea to figure out if he can handle the increased workload alongside McAvoy, or if they'll need a rotation there.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I'm pretty sure Cassidy said that Carlo-Grz was going to happen at some point on Carlo's return. But that might have been pre-Reilly.

Lucky not to get a high stick there. not that it should have been called but anytime a stick contacts a player you kind of need to expect a call.

I was literally about to look to see how much time was left in the game and it’s just the end of the 2nd?

Another good 5v5 effort so far.

23-9 Shots
39-15 Corsi
13-6 Scoring Chances
7-2 HDC

Keep it up and get the 2 points.
