Yah, no game today I would guess. They got into the players areas. They destroyed some of the cameras for the broadcast.

The thing about criticizing these protests is that while you don’t want this to become anything like the norm it isn’t like United fans haven’t been protesting the Glazers peacefully for years. They did that silly splinter club and have had anti glazer movements before. Violence and rioting isn’t necessarily the answer but I’m not sure more of the same was going to work

That silly splinter club got into the 5th tier, although now they've had back-to-back relegations. Still, they'll end up as a slightly lesser AFC Wimbledon

I'm glad Rebecca Lowe is narrating this. She has always been so good.

Spot on teddy.

Why do you have to support City.

Interesting that the police aren't kettling like US police forces do. I guess they'll just arrest who they want later?

Talksport is reporting that sources are reporting this match as "called off" - no direct word from the PL, but BBC, Sky Sports, and NBC say "postponed"

Premier League statement

“ Following the security breach at Old Trafford, the Manchester United vs. Liverpool game has been postponed.
"This is a collective decision from the police, both clubs, the Premier League and local authorities.
"The security and safety of everyone at Old Trafford remains of paramount importance. We understand and respect the strength of feeling but condemn all acts of violence, criminal damage and trespass, especially given the associated COVID-19 breaches. Fans have many channels by which to make their views known, but the actions of a minority seen today have no justification.
"We sympathise with the police and stewards who had to deal with a dangerous situation that should have no place in football.
"The rearrangement of the fixture will be communicated in due course."

Edit: reports indicate it won’t be played tomorrow either. This is going to be tricky to reschedule what with ManU’s Europa League commitments. Forfeit works for me ;) Isn’t that a 0-9 score line ?

Edit 2: 3-0 in soccer (was thinking baseball)

Why can’t be it tomorrow? I think that makes the most sense given the advantage we have over Roma on Thursday. Play the kids and back ups and we’d be fine.

If anything the extra day of rest might help

The “silly splinter club” is the greatest thing Man U fans have ever done. To have the moral fiber to turn your back on the club that offered so much easy glory to create a club built from scratch because football means community to you...I don’t give 10 fucks which league that club is in, that club means something more than most others in England.
And Zomp is right- whatever truths exist about United fans being bangwagoners who aren’t from Manchester, the fans who are local have always had a passion to match anywhere in the country.

Tomorrow’s a Bank Holiday in England. Maybe they are worried about a repeat?

Edit: when you think about it it makes sense. The protestors will be completely emboldened. They just stopped the most watched football fixture on the planet.

Bale with a chip, Spurs up 1-0. I know a few teams have a game in hand but I cannot believe they are sitting in 5th at the moment.

didn’t look intentional, but seems wild that Fleck got away with studs to the face for no card at all.

Bale has a free and clear 1 on 1 with the keeper and rather than slotting it home, he blasts a left footer in to the upper corner. Wow.

Sheffield United are not good but ... why couldn't Spurs have played like this all year? This is such a massive improvement.

The hotel is 4 miles from Old Trafford.
A lot of teams in European Football stay the ~24h before each home game in a hotel. Routine, prevents partying, etc...
When an attacker exploded multiple bombs to harm the BVB team hours before their CL match, they were on the way from their usual hotel in/close to Dortmund on their way to the stadium.

It’s probably thread worthy, but I think it’s beyond time to discuss Mourinho’s future. Will he ever get a prestige job again? Looks like after ManU, the answer is no.

I think he’d be able to grab one of the Serie A prestige jobs - a slower speed of play, clubs still aching to make a splash, and Jose killed it last time in the league.

Very late to the game, but big time solidarity to the United supporters, an impressive and commendable display.

Part of me is also thankful I didn't have to witness this incarnation of Liverpool play the squad that blew the doors off Roma earlier in the week.

Circling back, I called it silly because it never seemed to have the intended impact. I get the impression that at best a few United fans started following both but it simply exists in a no mans land where it accomplished little in terms of denting United. Wimbledon seems like a more worthy example to me of the principle in action

I don’t think it was intended to ‘dent’ United. I think it was and continues to be a club that supporters can feel connected to.

I could be wrong though.

Just announced as the new manager of Roma for 21-22.
I'm literally stunned. I can't wrap my brain around what anybody is seeing in him at this point. He's more concerned with getting quips in to the media than he is managing his team. His players consistently hate him earlier in his tenure. It's insane.

He can remind Edin Dzeko that he needs respect for his 3 Premierships. Three.

Given the Jose Acceleration Factor, I expect him to get fire around the 2022 holidays.

That Roma squad definitely needs a refresh - a lot of grizzled vets who just couldn't keep the pace this crazy season. Bringing in Jose is going to compound this problem. And yeah, Bryan Reynolds needs to start looking for a loan or something so he can see the pitch.

Mourinho getting rehired so quickly may also save Spurs a lot of money in severance.
